The Photo Gallery can be a boutique or a General Store. When there is no selection criteria you get a general store, where there is a range of material. IN time, with a small group the quality will improve and the standard will rise. In all pursuits where effort and talent count the persistent and active members set the standard. Jump in every so often and remind us that we are here to enjoy and learn by doing better work.

Maybe too many focal points? It certainly is an example of the fact that you have be very aware of all the elements that will end up captured in the image. Only after I was home on a 20"monitor was I fully aware of all the various parts.

Don't worry about. "Everyone to their own taste" said the old lady as she kissed the cow. A phrase I picked up from Mom who would have been 102 last month.

Try this one! "there is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And, if you block it, it will never exist through any medium and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable, nor how it compares to other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, to keep the channel open." A quote from dancer Martha Graham in Dance to the Piper by Agnes de Mille Take it and put it where you can reference it often.

This is one great photo! Everything about it is right. The eye just naturally moves toward the optical center of interest and still pauses in the way to observe the droplets. "Whow Nelly" a winner in any competition

One other tip. When facing the congregation, or any group do not do as I did one day. The scene was good, but the camera did not fire the flash. My mouth made the words "S-O-B " very clearly to the entire 200+ people seated in the Cathedral Chapel. Fortunately it was the wedding of my college rommate and good friend. 40 years later we still meet for lunch every few months. Time exposure shots work well in churches and chapels.

You might try the Ansel Adams trick of darkening or lightening the sky in the color shot. Either way it will increase the drama. The drama in the B&W is what makes it appealing.

The picture is from the fence of the front yard of a shop selling all manner of yard decorations. The "flag" is really more of a banner than an actual US flag. The yard was very crowded. Yes I should have taken a few more pictures at that location. I have a few more from the trip that I will edit and post.

Take a photo tool and lighten the foreground. Then try darkening the foreground. Compare the results to see what you want. There are too many contrasting parts to that area. I would want the machines to be the complete focal point.

The third picture is well composed. With a catchy title it would be a winner. All that work, building the sand city. They are having a fine day.

Bsteph,Alpha101,and all: We post pictures to get the feedback, positive or negative. That is how we improve. Our art is to produce images that evoke emotion. No emotion, no art. So keep those cards and letters coming. Bill
