When I first installed the 405 patch, I got GP faults when moving the camera around. Updating my video card drivers seemed to help that problem out, but I have had vue crash much more often than it did before (with the 403 patch) It is more reminiscent of the trial version available at e-ons web site, which almost scared me away from purchasing it (it crashed very frequently). My biggest problem seems to involve materials. Does anyone else have weird crashes on certain materials? I also just had it lock up after adding a second terrain. All I had was a single terrain and a water plain. Adding the second terrain locked me out. (these weren't even big, 256x256). Oh well, I just blame MS. They seem to have enough bugs to go around. With the OS being so unstable, it's hard to know when it is software, and when it is the OS. (I can't reliably delete files, thanks to win ME. I gotta do that in linux, unless I want to wait for hours to get them all cleaned up). I would reinstall windows, but I would probably go back to 98 if I did. eric

Does any one have any experience backing up the vue directory prior to upgrading? I guess there could be registry updates that won't get caught, but that too could be worked around. I kinda want to upgrade, but with all of the other problems, I'm a little nervous. It works fine right now, except for a few weird material problems (try editing a material, and then canceling the edit box....it can sometimes really get things messed up) I'm using 4.03-02. I'll probably give it a shot this weekend, unless anyone can give me a reason to stick with 4.03 eric

Are you talking about broken joint segments (geometrical anomalies when you bend things certain ways)? If so, I think you have to retry your pose (perhaps using scaling or some "unnatural" method to get things where you want them) If not you might try using magnets (I have seen the teeth show through the face, and I've wondered if a magnet would help....but i was too lazy, just changed the dial back a little) just a thought, Eric

Man, there is a guy who sings that song as he walks down the hall each couple of hours at work(on his way for a cigarette, I guess). I had been told it was a canadian kids show, but had no idea what it might have been (never actually paid attention to the the fact it was "Sponge" Bob). Oh well, now I have a slight clue what is going on with kids these days (got none of my own, so 70s sesame street songs are about the only one's I would recognize). eric

scaramouche, a simple python script could do the trick of deleting nude objs (or at least ease the load). You might have to re-run it each time you reinstall, but those sort of things are what computers do best;) That was what they were originally designed for. While I don't have Poser Pro, since it has python built into it, you might even be able to force a script to run each time you opened a new file (and could limit the figures that are visible) eric
Thread: Dear Gurus how can I smoothen the curves?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think what those jagged lines are telling you, is that you have pushed the model beyond it's limits (not necessarily your fault) I had to bend P4 fems knee quite a bit to see what you are talking about, and I do see it. While probably not the answer you were hoping, I did a quick render in Poser where the knee was all broken, and imported the same figure in Vue4 and the angles were not nearly as bad (though still blocky). Perhaps Poser 5s renderer will be handle this better. eric
Thread: Victoria 2 vs Victoria 1 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Frankly, I would highly recommend anyone relatively new to poser to get Vicky 2. I am just beginning to learn to use magnets, but with V2, I have created several very different characters, all of which I think are attractive and realistic. However, since the upgrade doesn't cost any extra, no harm in getting started sooner. (I am surprised they don't penalize you for going that route. I've never seen any other product where you can get to the same place two different ways for the same amount of cash) eric
Thread: The "ART" question... and POSER 5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Did anyone notice the folks who made comments regarding Catharina's picture lacked an image in the gallery (at least the couple I looked back for)? It would be nice to have been able to see just how good their own "art" is. Even I probably could create good cubes and spheres in any 3d package (and maybe even insult someone using a less expensive package) ;)

wow. I haven't even loaded a p4 figure (except thorne's) in a while, but these textures make it seem worth looking into once again.

I agree with JVRenderer. I don't know for sure, but I imagine that early photographers weren't taken as serious artists. I know that most "real" musicians hate anything that was played by a machine (even though there is still a lot of work that might be done to make it sound right)

You could do MOR files for to knock the file size down. Not sure how big your cr2s are, but you can always allow the user to request them if they lack vicky2. The MOR file is only as large as the morph differences, so it is significantly smaller. (far less than 1Meg most likely)
Thread: Actual 'artists' or perhaps just 'compositors'...... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
For me, Art is impossible to describe. To say that using poser to create images is not art, is like saying that using a camera, or an electrical musical instrument is not art. What matters is what is done with the tools available to you. Perhaps you make pretty images that come close to photographic quality. Whether those images are art depends on what those images convey, and how effective they are at conveying their message, regardless of how you strung those particular pixels together. I spend little time in the galleries. Mostly, because there are too many pictures, and the web doesn't always behave very responsively; so I get bored and move on to something else. But when I do browse the galleries, I always encounter at least one image that makes me pause. Those pictures are more than a bunch of colorful lights. They convey something personal to me. That is what art is about, regardless of the tools used to create it. eric

If you don't have Norton Speed Disk, and want to defragment your swap file, set virtual memory to 0. Restart. Defragment your hard disk. When finished defragging, set the size to what ever you want (I am pretty sure you can set the minimum in windows 9x...I know you can on 2K) Restart If you don't force the file size, it will get fragmented as you move files on and off of that partition.
Thread: site with free textures | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm using IE 6, and see the textures fine. Not sure what you are experiencing, geep. I did have some weird failings when trying to get a couple of the textures, but that was the worst of it. Perhaps restart your browser, or use netscape (if you have a copy installed). I find that various scripts work best in different browsers (I would hate to do web sites professionally...not enough uniformity in client software)
