Suspended for a simple dispute??? Seems a bit harsh if you ask me. What was the dispute about? Lanover
Thread: Can Somebody Explain "Azimuth"? | Forum: Vue
I think the word "Azimuth" describes the elevation of the sun in relation to the point of view. Or something similar. It is normally expressed in (Damn, I have no idea of the english word for this: "Winkelgrad"). I hope someone can translate this... Lanover P.S. Sorry, at this time of night I am starting to get confused...
Thread: The file exchange seems to be a bit... sluggish (at best) | Forum: Vue
Concerning the copyright-thing: Everyone is free to do whatever he pleases with the models I made. Especially if you wish to improve something on the model (like creating a UV-Map - I hate doing this myself.) The only restriction I have to make is that no model may be sold or used in a collection. (And of course: No professional (TV, Movies) use without giving me all the credit available (Kissing my feet, 50% of everything, Writing my name in 100foot neon-letters on the highest building in New York, making me President of the World for Live) One other thing I wanted to say: I didn't want to blaim anyone for taking something and not participating in the exchange himself. I just wanted to ask if all the others out there feel the same way about this exchange I do. About the european thing: Sure, many users of Vue are Europeans, but there should be no such thing as a language barrier - I have learned English for 8 Years in school and every European should have learned english at school for about that long. I have mailed a lot of people over here and most of them speak an acceptable english.
Thread: Complaint & Debate | Forum: Vue
Sounds like the same old story: Some times ago it was Mac versus IBM-PC, some time later came 3D-Studio versus Lightwave and now it seems Bryce versus Vue... People never learn. But one thing: Xav, I am just glad other people got the same problems I got. In Germany the "professionals" not only smile at you if you are not using 3D-Studio, the sneer and laugh at you. Just consider those guys as what they are: inflexible... Lanover
Thread: Does anyone want to take up Darth_Logice's Pepsi Challenge? | Forum: Vue
Sorry to say this, but that doesn't sound to intelligent to me. Comparing Vue and Bryce is still possible but not very sensible. By comparing the rendering-result of a similar scene, you forget to compare the two programms specialities: Bryce offers slow but relatively good looking volumetric shaders, Vue offers built in Vegetation and a far more powerful material editor. So, what's the point at comparing both programms? Bryce wins every scene that requires volumetric effects, Vue wins every scene with vegetation... But going even further: I have no idea so far, what Carrara is capable of, but I do not think carrara is capable to compare with Lightwave or 3D-Studio. In a direct rendering contest Carrara is doomed to loose. If Carrara retains RayDreams Ease-of-Use, Carrara will win against both Lightwave and 3D-Studio since both programms were created by programmers for programmers, not artists. Carrara on the other hand was created more with the artist in mind. So, just creating a similar scene and then comparing the render-results will be of no help at all. If you do such a contest, you will have to compare the whole creation-process of the scene in both programms. Lanover
Thread: Those Elusive Puff Clouds | Forum: Vue
Looks simply great... I would really like to see a tutorial on how you did that cloud. Posting the material would also be extremely nice.
Thread: Vue Free Stuff Added | Forum: Vue
Hm... but it is still strangely silent... I hope we will be seeing a lot more objects soon... (And atmospheres - I love atmospheres but my skills at making my own atmospheres are abysmal...) Lanover
Thread: MetaCreations to focus solely on Web/Metastream? | Forum: Animation
Well, all of this sounds awfully familiar to me. Since Metacreations seems to be unable or unwilling to stat what will happen to Poser, Bryce or Painter, this could only mean two different things: 1. The Products will be dropped or sold (Which seems as the best alternative for us all.) 2. They will do the same thing with Poser, Bryce and the rest, that happened to 3D-Studio: Give them a new "more professional" look and a new pricetag (something around 1000 $ I guess). The Carrara-Development and Canomas Pricetag seems to indicate this Version of what will happen. I am one of those "marketing-bozos" that work in the e-commerce business and I have been using Metacreations products for quite a long time by now - well I think I will reconsider and use Lightwave from now on. Sure, Lightwave has a high pricetag - but it also has the abilities to match that pricetag. I like Poser and thought about upgrading to Carrara, but I won't waste my money on a product with a very unsave future. To bad there are not as many alternatives to Poser as there are to Carrara. I think a lot of people in the marketing business think likewise: Never invest in a product with an unsave future. So what do I want to say with all this? Simply one thing: TELL US WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE PROGRAMMS WE ALL USE! Stop telling us the usual corporate propaganda speech. Simply tell us what programms will be dropped and what programms will remain and the changes that will be done with these Programms Jg Weber
