Heya Grimpup, I did do the profile in Adobe Illustrator and imported it. It can be done in Carrara but is faster and more precise in AI. What took me a couple of minutes in AI would have taken me a half hour or so in Carrara for the same drawing results. I guess more precise drawing controls in Carrara is on my wishlist for a future version. Mark

Hi Epsilon, Not sure if this is what you have in mind. I's a spline modeler thing. I usually can't get bump maps to create a convincinvg wave form so I wind up modeling it instead. Mark

For Mac sys: Command-shift-3 is a full screen shot; Command-shift-4 let's you marquee a selection; Command-control-shift-4 let's you marquee a selection and copy directly to the keyboard for pasting into another program.
Thread: a question: | Forum: Carrara
Actually, the best way to do it is place one sphere, shade it and then duplicate it. Then if you want to change all the spheres you can simply change the master shader and the rest of the shperes will follow suit. Mark

Actually it's not a bug. There are two issues here: Links and Groups. 1. Links. The large triangle that is circled as not expanding is a link. (The triangle connotes the parent.) It's not supposed to be expandable but just a visual cue. 2. Groups. The expandable triangle allows you expand grouped objects for individual selection. Links are formed by (in the Heirarchy window) dragging directly to another object (The dragged object becomes the child of the 'Triangled' Parent.) or selecting two objects and selecting 'Make Parent' from the pull down . Groups are formed by either selecting mutliple objects in the Heirarchy window or the Assembly window and the selecting the Make Group in the pull down menue or Command/Alt G depending on the platform that you are working on. BTW, if you already formed a group you drag additions to the group by pulling them under on of the items in the group. However, if you drag it onto another item it will become a Child of that object. The Carrara manual has a pretty good section with screen captures showing how the two are used on pgs. 354-362. In the RDS manual it's on pgs 319 and following. RDS actually has two schemes for presentation. One looks just like the Carrara version and the other is the icon presentation which is talked about in the manual. Mark Mark
Thread: Carrara/Help needed re: alpha mask export | Forum: Carrara
Unfortunatly, that is a camera angle thing. The objects will not be masked separately because Carrara 'sees' the plane as an object. You have to have a horizon line in the view which will terminiate the plane. The results are a mask that shows the top of your objects that protrude above the horizon line. Everything else will be black below and white above. That goes on my Carrara wish list; A mask feature that ignores the plane but shows only the objects above the intersection of it. Mark

Thread: Carrara/Help needed re: alpha mask export | Forum: Carrara
There is a goofy bug that apparently doesn't affect all systems regarding the Alpha Mask. Before Metamorph... er Creations that is, went away they gave me this work around. In the Render Room, get everything else set the way that you want it. Then in the Format selection choose>Movie (the radio button). Then, from the Movie pull down that appears, select Sequenced Photoshop file. Next you can go to the G-Buffer area and select Mask which otherwise is disallowed. Then go back to the Format option and select Tiff or whatever format you want to render in (uncheck Movie) and the Mask G-Buffer option will be retained. The alpha mask will give you a solid object mask (unlike distance) unless there is transparencey in one of the objects being masked, in which case a grayscale version of the transparency is created. Hope that this helps. Mark

Lookin' good. I'd try shinning a spot on each of the lights on the wall with the angle drop off feature and shadows off. Seems too dark in the immediate vicinity of the lights. Great effort on this one! Mark
