Thank you bhoins. Please explain. I've been using Bryce 7.1 Pro exclusively with the LAA flag set for 3+ years, the earlier versions down to 4 at rare times but also set to LAA. The only parts I can imagine crashing with the LAA set is the IL which I haven't used a lot and Displacement in the Mat Lab only works if Priority is set to low, otherwise Bryce crashes LA aware or not. If there are some catches in the code, I would very much like to know where.

Bryce is not Large Address Aware, which means the flag was not set at compile time. However, it can set using one of the free tools available. Bryce can then go to about 3.2 to 3.5 GB. Here's a video that may be of help [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDZmETVO15c] Bryce Memory Shortage – and what you can do about it. I've tested from Bryce 4 upwards to 7.1.

I have a free 11 page PDF on my website that shows where everything "bryceish" belongs (Mac and PC). http://www.horo.ch/docs/mine/pdf/BryceContent_v4.pdf hopefully this helps. The DAZ DIM works fine for Studio but not so fine for Bryce.

What a great idea to present all those HDRIs. Very nicely done! I'm a great fan of IBL. I have made more than 300 light probes myself and collected well over 100 from others.

@AgentSmith - thanks for that additional information. I think (though I don't know) that the deal was to not make Axiom public. Of course, each coder that has worked on Bryce since MetaCreations sold it has seen that code.

I don't think he would be of any help. Corel got the code at the time, now DAZ has it but since it is proprietary, they must not make it public. 64-bit was attempted for Bryce 7.0 but abandoned because it would have grossly overrun the budget.

A large part of Bryce is written in Axiom, a sort of intermediate code that works for the Mac and the PC at the same time. This Axiom composite file management system was developed by Andrea Pessino at MetaTools in the 1990ies. The code is proprietary. Without it being opened, no plug-ins can be developed. This legacy is also the main hindrance to port Bryce to 64-bit.

... the deadline approaches. I know what you mean. It's often hard to stop working on a scene and say it's done.

32-bit programs - and Bryce is among them - can only address 2 GB of memory, no matter how much there are installed. However, with 32-bit 4 GB can potentially be addressed. There is a flag that can be set at compile time to make the program aware of the whole address space (4 GB). With the LAA tool, this flag can be set and reset for any program. I have used LAA for quite a while and set all my Bryce versions installed (from 4 to 7.1) to large address aware. With Bryce 7.1, I get to around 3.5 GB until the memory runs out for Bryce.

Thread: IMPORTANT - Multi-Core Rendering for Bryce : | Forum: Bryce
Pumeco, the processor type for EX58UD3R is a bit misleading as 8-way. I corrected that. It's a quad core with multi-threading, which means Windows Task Manager shows 8 CPUs and Bryce also sees 8 CPUs. DH55TC is also a quad but has got no HT. This was also wrongly listed on the page - as I've just discovered to my utter horror. Now that's corrected as well. Sorry guys and thanks for your interest.

Here's my test page, using just an earlier beta but this part hasn't changed.
