Hey Gérald, I finally got to test the new pre-release version with a new install of DS4.11 on a brand new drive and like Smaker1, I am not seeing any issues on Windows7_x64.
I noticed you have a path setup for Gmsh. Are you sending to Gmsh and back for the new remeshing now, and is it automatic or is there input parameters. I haven't set it up yet, so I haven't tried it yet.
Also, since VWD is still x86, do I need to link to a x86 Gmsh, or will a native x64 Gmsh on my x64 PC work? Which one should I install and link to?
EDIT: I forgot that I had one more question; Did you separate VWD for DS and Poser -- This seems to be only for DS, but I am sure I can use the previous Poser script setup which will link to the new VWD version. I am just wondering about it auto-bridging to Poser as the previous version did.
Thread: Renderosity Acquires Poser Software | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Reading through this thread I feel like I am the hated bastard step-child because I love both parents. That's okay, I visit just as much with my other surrogate parent as well.
I still love you all, and respect your opinions, likes, dislikes, wants, and wishes...
So, after reading several different threads, and at different sites, I came to the conclusion to take my winnings from poker and invest in Rendo's future development of Poser -- Even though I am happy with the cc tools in PP2014, and without PP11 having had added the cloth creation module I desire, I purchased Poser Pro 11.
I learned two things yesterday:
There are some who believe all that would have purchased PP11 out there already have, which I believe is erroneous just for the fact I am always a version behind and wait for a great sale to purchase (PP11 is at that price point I am willing to spend right now, but I have passed it up for cheaper in the past). Normally, for me, it would be a purchase probably two years into everyone already owing PP12.
It seems that somewhere people have been conversing with Jenn from Rendo, and an official statement has been made that Poser and Poser Pro has been/will be merged together, and there will only be one price for one program going forward -- all the tools of the pro version with the standard version price tag. I like this, but there goes my arguments for pro tools to be added to a pro version for content creators -- now everyone will be able to play with whatever they come up with.
At this time (today), I can confirm that the sale from SM is still in transit with regards to our data/serials -- The upgrade confirmation sent me to the SM site where my SN's are currently stored. I assume they will all be transferred here, but have no idea when that shall be. I believe we will all have our data stored here at least by the time we need to upgrade to Poser 12.
One last thing, I have a crazy idea for a feature suggestion. Let me know what you think, whether you hate it, hate me for even thinking it, like it, love it, think it's a good idea, bad idea, or I am just bat-s**t nuts...
After reviewing the promo images for Poser Pro 11, I noticed two of the images are paint-over renders. My idea is for adding painting ability inside of Poser, so for those who like to do those sort of finals can work from start to finish. The idea crossed my mind, because this is available inside of Blender, and I mean this as a feature for Poser only users who would desire it. I believe there are some things already inside Poser which could help adapt this already.
Also, this is based on what I have read where some are suggesting what Poser needs is some new functions to help grow, or bring back users -- just a measly suggestion -- What do you think?

@ Afrodite-Ohki :
You are welcome.
I see your point with not wanting Poser Pro to go any higher in price -- I do not want this as well.
That sucks that you do not have MD. I thought your clothing products might have been made with it.
Yeah, MD is great to work in for creating clothes, and the simulation is top shelf. I drool over the videos as well, and the latest versions have a much easier creation workflow than my antiquated version, but I get by.
I create my clothing there, but use Poser and DS with VWD as my simulation engine for compositing my scenes for rendering.
Started with Poser 3 myself, but I am envious that you had proper training with Max.
Gotta go get some work done so I can participate in Poker night. Take care...

Not being accusatory -- just curious...
Does "Now, once again, FACTS tend to get jumbled and misinterpreted and what I "know" about the cloth room could be made up fantasy, too." refer to my post regarding facts with Poser's cloth module?
Not saying you were implying mine, but it just seems how it read from the rest of the thread.
If so, I can assure you I am not going off of hearsay, or forum talk, but off of cite-able archived source material.
aRtBee documented one half of the equation, and I was working on documenting the other half.
If anyone has any questions, please ask, and I will not only cite source material, but present it as well.
Thread: Renderosity Acquires Poser Software | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This might seem out of place with the past two pages of discussion, but...
@ Afrodite-Ohki :
You make some good points, but I disagree about the expence.
I did not pay close attention to Poser's pricing structure, but when the inclusion of both Size8Software's cloth simulation module, and Singular Inversions' face room module (pre-Poser Pro separation with two-tiered pricing) did not result in an exponential price hike.
And, yes, since the decision to separate Poser into two classes and cater to three main demographics (content users [vendor purchasers/freebies], content creators, and power users/creators) the pricing structure, and usage needs have defined which Poser version one might purchase.
But, never have I witnessed an exponential pricing scheme while adding core functionality that priced anyone out of usage, whether one as a hobbyist, power user, or professional in any aspect (including content vendors).
Marvelous Designer, on the other hand, went from (Poserverse) hobbyists' champion and content creator friend with a two-tiered pricing structure, standard/Pro versions (excluding full on big business commercial Enterprise) to exponential price hiking, just the same as what happened with zBrush (though, in their defence, as many point out - always with free updates/next gen versions).
Poser has always had a pretty regulated pricing scheme where both new purchases and upgrades have been fair pricing for new versions. What I mean by this is, I have never seen them jump exponentially in price just because they included a new core module such as physics, or a new renderer (the norm being a Pro $400 tier program to a now $800 tier program).
I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding usage and inclusion. It should be the same as it has been, a Pro function included in the Pro version.
Those, as you say, who only purchase content to make pretty pictures, and have no desire to create anything can still do so with the standard (cheaper) version. Those of us, who are content creators and power users will purchase the Pro version as we always have to have the tools we need at our disposal. But, I know, as a fellow content creator, I am preaching to the choir with you.
As a two decade long content creator (some of us choose not to be a store vendor and go the way of custom freelancing), I do have a dog in this race. I would love to see the inclusion happen, but I am a realist, and have no delusions -- only wants and wishes...
I am not sure when you jumped on board with MD, but I don't remember you from the initial beta testing days (2010), but we are in a giant sea of thousands of participants, so it is easy to miss people in conversations and passing.
I noted you have been here as long as I (my third incarnation), and assume you have been using Poser just as long as well.
I don't know how long you have been a content creator, or a vendor, but you have a lovely store with some nice products.

@ Afrodite-Ohki :
I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Poser's Cloth Room regarding anupaum's request.
First, I believe the possible desire is for interactive cloth simulation which is available in Marvelous Designer (and VWD for Poser), but that is only a guess due to them only referencing MD's simulation functionality.
Where I disagree is your analogy of Poser cloth with sculpting for ZBrush in C4D.
I was compiling a treatise on Poser Cloth Room (shut down by SM's dismissal of my inquiries), and was in talks with a well know Poser Cloth Room expert with his own site who studied as much as I did regarding this subject, but we ended in odds regarding a fundamental fact of origins which can only be cleared up by the software originator (Size8 - now defunct), or possibly the licensee (SM - at the time).
I have written about this in length in the past, so I won't go into all the details again, but to sum-up: Poser's Cloth Room module is one half of the original 2 module cloth system named 'Stich' (for 3DSMax) which comprised of a cloth making module and a cloth simulation module. Size8 split up the modules, and licensed the cloth simulator to Poser (Poser 5 -- if memory serves, I believe under Curious Labs at the time).
It is now fully integrated into 3DSMax (possibly sold outright), and was renamed to 'ClothFX'. For a few years, one could still purchase it individually from Turbosquid under Size8, but that disappeared years ago (hence, the belief Size8 software is no more).
I am not privy to the licensing deal Poser had with Size8, nor the longevity of it, but it seems to be for a permanent lifetime usage/inclusion.
My hope, and what I have been waiting for for years, is for Poser to license the other half of the system, the cloth maker module, which would give us the full Marvelous Designer implementation just as we have with 3DSMax (if they upgrade to the current simulation module as well, which has the interactive drape functionality). I highly doubt it, and don't believe it might be possible if AutoDesk truly owns the full modules. If they were licensing as well, how did they get interactive simulation, and Poser did not get the update? I believe AD coded it themselves inhouse...
This is what prevented me from purchasing PP11, and will prevent me from purchasing PP12 when it comes out if not included as well. I already have several dissappointing versions up to PP2014, and own 1st generation Marvelous Designer 2, and VWD for Poser and DAZ Studio, as well as coding a MD clone with Blender, so I have my needs pretty much covered -- but, it would still be nice, and for others who wish it as well, if it came to pass.
Side Note : Congratulations Rendo, for the acquisition. I believe it is in good hands -- any plans to pull Larry out of retirement again? And, I don't know all the details of what happened with the original PP12 team change, but I would like to put in a vote to get Nerd back on board as managing director again...
Thread: Cloth Sewing in Blender - the plug-in | Forum: Blender
Hello SheikhalMaktoum,
You got my attention with your subject line - I am always excited to see something regarding cloth simulation in Blender.
But now, I feel as though I am in a paradox...
Just to be clear - I am not creating a plug-in for others to use - this is my coding project while I have been learning Python coding for Blender.
Sorry to disappoint. Maybe, in a few years I will be good enough to maintain a plug-in, and might work to release something to work with Blender's cloth simulation - But not right now...
Thread: VWD in Blender for clothing creation (similar to MD)? | Forum: Virtual World Dynamics
Hello Gérald,
SheikhalMaktoum is referring to me, your old beta tester (long ago). And, hello, SheikhalMaktoum...
I believe he/she misunderstood what I wrote and showed in that forum. I am working on utilizing Blender to create a Marvelous Designer clone for my own use, but it is still in the early alpha phase. I have been working on the 2D cloth creation aspect of it mostly so far with a working prototype with auto-sewing, and simulation with Blender's built in cloth sew module and default cloth simulator.
As a user of the great VWD software, I mentioned that my end goal would be to implement VWD for the cloth simulation only via bridging to standalone VWD the same way Philemo did for DAZ Studio. Though, and thoroughly emphasized, only for my own personal use, and not for the general public.
I am years away from trying to create the bridge - that would be my last step, and who knows, Blender might catch up by then, and I might not even need to use VWD, but I doubt that, and since I love VWD and it is the best cloth simulator I use, even beating out my Marvelous Designer 2, at this time I have plans for building the bridge.
I should really come by here more often to check out what's been going on. I know you are busy with coding VWD, and I am patiently waiting for when you officially release the new build you have been working on, and others have been testing.
I'm still happy using the old version from 2017...

This is a great add-on, and I am glad that Rich finally went public with this. I have been using it for several months, and he is just starting to fix issues that I thought I only had now that everyone is getting him excited about using it.
His official publication led me to another add-on, which I somehow missed, and thought that you guys/gals might be interested in too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSOrc_rPAnM
It is a Blender add-on that was written for there own online garment virtual try-on site, but have shared the add-on code as well.
Regarding Cloth Weaver, I have it too, and I wrote a small supplement add-on for it to give a little extra usage out of it. If anyone is interested you can find download it over here: https://community.hivewire3d.com/resources/cloth-weaver-extra-tools-panel-add-on.97/
And, ladydrakana, you asked me about the Make Pillow Tools Tab addon, and I have added the simple version up over there as well if you are still interested.
Thread: Start static simulation button | Forum: Virtual World Dynamics
sriesch:
Check the VWD folder for a second manual (totaling two; Original manual, and a second one) which should have more compatible control illustrations, and updated tutorials.
If you are doing static images, and not doing animations, you can use the Dynamic Deformation simulation function (push/pull cloth - see Chapter 7: Dynamic Deformation in new manual) on any poke-throughs, so that should not be an issue. For the demo version you are using, I believe you need to have Static Simulation active, but in previous versions, and the latest (purchased) version, you don't even need SS active (It auto-activates SS while in use). To activate DD hold the SHIFT button, and you will see a Yellow sphere highlight over any vertex you hover above. While holding down SHIFT, and a vertex highlighted, left click (and hold) and pull the cloth around.
In your foot poke-through example above; Click on a vertex on the cloth somewhere above the foot, and pull both up and out, then let go and let the simulation re-drape the cloth over the foot. There is a Start/Stop paradigm with the DD usage and the SS button, so if you see your simulation (with gravity) is not draping after you let go of SHIFT, then Stop and Start the SS again for a normal draping.
Also, in Gerald's last post above, he is referring to the cube's mesh topology. You basically want to match cloth and collision densities, so the cloth has something to collide against. It does not have to be 1-to-1, but you need to have enough vertices in the collision model. VWD has a subdivision/tessellation button (adjustable) for both cloth and collision models for use cases.

What VWD demo version are you using? It looks like one of the earlier ones (from screenshot of panel, and last image with bad normals). If you are not using the February 24, 2017 - version 1.1.502.3552, you might want to download and evaluate that one for your purchasing decisions.
From your first post, the sim did not like that you had your dress through the ground plane (floor), and immediately created a mass collision which shot your dress into space when you started the sim. It could probably have handled the figure interpenetrations, and you could have worked them out with the dynamic push/pull.
I have worked with worse, and would have turned off floor collision, and also zeroed out gravity (for ease of use). Once the lower part of dress was manageable, I would turn back on both gravity and the floor. You can work very interactively within VWD, and are not stuck with what is just given to you as you are with Poser, or DS cloth sims.
Also, with the later versions, Gerald introduced a movable floor plane which also gives another option to the technique by moving your figure/cloth up off the ground plane in DS, and then in VWD while the Static Simulation is going and gravity is pulling the cloth down, you move the floor plane up to your figure/cloth which gives you the cloth on ground folds. Just another way to skin the cat...
The dynamic sim is usually the way to go, as the others have pointed out, but you can achieve success with just the static sim as well.
And, Happy New Year to all the VWD users too...

Good to see you got it worked out. Looks like you are off to a good start, and have a good understanding of meshes, UV's, normals, and etc.
I was one of the earlier posters regarding the inverted normals technique (but grinch2901 might have been referring to someone else). It is very useful technique to push meshes inside such as a shirt into pants, hair under hat, and etc.
I used it specifically for a difficult simulation with an Aikido/Kendo Gi top and Hakama pants (created in Marvelous Designer 2).
The reason I am mentioning this is two-fold. First, as a MD user, I am creating the same dynamic meshes that you are, and I can tell you that you can use full outfits as either one piece, or as separated meshes. I am posting a link below which shows a use case where identical outfits were simulated with different settings with one as a full outfit, and the other as separated pieces. Second, in the same use case I demonstrate the different use of settings to maintain pleats in my Hakama trousers with one being a stiffer material with hard pleats, and the other being a softer material with soft pleats. Keep in mind, these are both identical meshes, and only settings within VWD are changed to accomplish the looks needed. I believe you are wanting to explore pleats, so this might be of some use to you.

Thread: First tests in GPU | Forum: Virtual World Dynamics
Gérald,
GLScene updating to x64 is great news. I would love if you are able to compile to x64 for future versions, but take your time, and work on the projects that are making you money.
VWD is still the best thing offered for dynamics simulation in Poserverse, and I am sure there are still a lot of users who appreciate your work, and support you. Even though we had an agreement for my work, I still purchased a separate copy of VWD through Rendo to further support you (as well as Philemo's bridges too).
Keep up the terrific work, and don't work too hard and get burned out.
Take care...
Ken
Thread: Memory limits? | Forum: Virtual World Dynamics
No. It was the latest release of DS from last month that triggered the issue for everyone, and you guys started getting complaints. You, and Philemo stated it's been addressed and corrected. Although, from chrysoula's statements above, it seems the corrected version of the bridge has not made it to Rendo's downloads yet.
I'm still using a DS4.9 version two iterations back, so I haven't encountered the OBJ export dialog issue.
