Jim! I think that L8RDAZE said what I was going to say.... but said it so perfectly! At times- we are quite hard on ourselves- and whan that happens to me (especially on here) I take a look at a certain quote that sits on my 'Rosity homepage. Your message is very well-done & quite clear in this image! Ken

Uhmmmm.... thats why you shouldn't waste your time & money at a Wal-Mart Photo. Take it to a Photography store that pays closer attention to the images & has trained personnel doing the job- not someone who they pulled in from the shoe dept to fill in. They should know an image taken off of digital media or film is original 99% of the time- the other 1% usually shows a pattern from a copied/scanned print (magazine for example) and is usually blatantly obvious.
I also find it kind of ironic that many people talk about their higher-end equipment but wont spend a couple extra bucks when it comes to processing.

Thread: Its not so much the camera..it is the eye behind it. | Forum: Photography
Standing Ovation for You Tom!!! What you said is so true. (I'll look at that link after my comment).
I work at a camera/photography store and often see the processed images. Some of the best images I see are from the compact or "prosumer" digitals. Some of the images that come from people with the more advanced digital SLR's are less than impressive. usually those with the better (& older) 35mm SLR's have experience behind them so their prints are usually better.
It wrenches my gut on here when I see people in the forum talking about specific high-end cameras &/or lenses- and their photos are really nothing special. SOME are- don't get me wrong, BUT SOME of the others could use training in composition & imagination (despite what the comments under their photos here on RR say).

I think that Lost Patrol put it best. "It CAN happen rather than WILL happen." Everyone I work with has not seen anyone with this problem at all & we sell the Canons and the Lexars. These are very rare & isolated occurences (across the country) and not widespread. Also- there is an element of Human Error here- many people cant seem to wait for the larger images or series of images to load before trying to do something else. That is when problems occur. Remember- the "processor" in a camera can only do so much so fast.

When taking photos with the polarizer on a sunny day- you'll get the best effect on the sky shooting at a 90-degree angle from the sun. Often taking teh photo with the sun at your back will not yield as good of an effect. And like Michelle said, the sky has to be blue as opposed to grey.

Tedz... that would have been more appropro if it were a flower coming out from the valley.
Ahhhh also unstrung.... I shall explain my absence- my eldest spawn headed out today for an internship at DisneyWorld ("the happiest place on the planet"- Rosity is second) so this moose was hibernating early dreaming of pets running thru flowers early and then had to take her to the airport where we were almost late cause one of my cats was sitting by a flowerpot & I just had to.....
Thread: Flowers | Forum: Photography
geeeeeeez...... I go to bed one night & wake up the next morning & look what happens......... (running for my reinforcements....) OKAY flower photography may not be easy in all cases..... but in some cases..... same with the pets. BUT read the comments on the image & see if more than 15% of the comments are about the image. It's the good photo that has taken some imagination, creativity, & techinal expertise that get the comments like "what a cute shade of pink," or "pretty flower," or (my favorite) "what a pretty cat." (go back to comment #18 by L8RDAZE- if the comments are about the photo & helpful)To sum it up- theres a difference between a PHOTO & a SNAPSHOT. Looking at the images submitted to this thread- at least these had something other than just hitting the shutter release. There was something that actually went into the photo to make it a work of art. And isnt that what Renderosity is about?? The ART? Maybe it would just be easy if RR would add a new category- "Scrapbooking."

LOL... I agree with you unstrung. Something I have felt about this gallery for a loooonnnnng time. But there is something worse than a flower or a pet photo. It's a flower or a pet photo with tons of viewings, an EXCELLENT rating, and many "votes." (setting up the wall for the tsunami from those who disagree) It seems this gallery is becoming more about "cute" than creative.

Thread: BW conversion try, opinion and advice please. | Forum: Photography
Onslow- that was the very best way that I have ever seen it explained!!!
That's the same way that I do my conversions- but I add a couple steps after that. I will also go to "duotone" (I have Photoshop) and choose an appropro grey tone for the B&W print to taste. Before going to duotone tho- the image musy be converted to greyscale (after doing the channel-mixer gig). After the duotone is chosen, I convert back to RGB for any final adjusting & enhancing.
Thread: dpi's from 72 to 300 | Forum: Photography
okay- if Bryce saves at a 72dpi- then it must be bitmapped (pixels).
(Ya learn something new every day!) ;-)
Thread: dpi's from 72 to 300 | Forum: Photography
First of all- is Bryce a bitmap or a vector program? (I'm not familiar at all with Bryce) That can make a HUGE difference. Vector images are based on arithmetic calculations & can be blown up with no noise or pixelation. While a bitmap image uses pixels- the larger you make that image- the larger you make the pixels. Some programs work well when you enlarge the image with the pixels- but a vector image (which is never a photo) wouldnt need it.
