"anyone else having constraint issues in the clothroom? I know its not the cloth because it all works in P6/7/pro. If some of you could try to constrain some cloth and see if it lets you select all you want by hand, that includes subtracting the verts too. It only lets me do the facin cloth and not the backside or if you select ALL it won't let me deselect what I want."
Yep, me too. I can select some vertices (like the lapels of a shirt) but when I spin the camera around to select the rest (like the back of the collar) the lasso is visible but nothing gets selected. So it's not just you :)
Thread: Parenting one prop to another and saving as a "smart" prop | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Funny, I've smart propped a TV Ariel prop to the top of a TV prop and it snaps to it every time and follows the TV around like a smart prop, as far as I'm concerned it's a smart prop. No figures involved anywhere.
Put your handle on the sword in the pose room where you want it to sit.
Go to the hierarchy editor and drag the handle on top of the sword and let go, the handle becomes a child of the sword.
Select the handle only.
Click the add to library cross in the library pane.
When the dialogue box comes up type a name for the handle, dont do anything else!!!
Save it, you will get a box asking if you want to save it as a smart prop, say yes.
Should be it.

I don't know if you've ever come across the 'Thief'' series of games from Looking Glass.
Thief The Metal Age, is a complete mix of steam driven technology set in a medieval environment, also mixed with high end technology (a mechanical eye with a zoom lens). The main character was always running up against the mystical 'Keepers' who were steeped in superstition and magic.
He he, super stuff and it all goes together very well:) In fact Steampunk and Magic are ideal things to put together in my opinion.
Thread: Poser 8 SR1 - how do I get rid of these artifacts/shadows? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi,
I'm getting exactly the same artifacts on a skirting board running round the floor edge of a room, I tested by moving the floor up so that it's intersecting the skirting board, closing any possible gap that might be between them both and it still creates the artifacts, so it doesn't work for me. Also to add that (as said above) changing any of the settings doesn't make any difference either.
But, if SM are aware of it, as it seems they are, then I can wait for SR2.
I think I'll send them a picture anyway, just to be sure :)

Hi,
Sorry to be so simplistic but on the top picture I can see you have full texture display selected, on the bottom picture that part of the image is cut off so I can't see if you have the same selected. Could it be that? Just the first thing I thought of to eliminate from the enquiry :)
Cheers,
Thread: Anyone know if Face_Off's RSS will be updated for Poser 8? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yes it works fine if you do that, however be careful not to change any of the 'colour' instances, just 'col' for column, so best do it by hand one at a time :)
Thread: About Ready to Switch to Poser - Have a Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi,
There's no reason why they shouldn't, I use Daz figures and props, scenes etc every day and I can't remember any issues personally. I use V4 and M4 all the time and I also have the master bathroom scene and have used it ok in Poser.
I think there's a newer issue arising regarding the Freak figure scaling, there's another thread about that specific issue.
Cheers,
Thread: Will it? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi,
I use P8, P7, P6, Carrara 7 pro, and Vue all on Vista Home Premium with User Account Control switched on and my main runtime (for all the Posers) in the Programmes folder. I don't have any problems whatsoever with any of the applications, except those already mentioned here with P8 which I'm expecting to be fixed with first service release.
With Vista there are 2 things to remember, select to RUN the application with administrator rights, and also Vista sometimes doesn't allow 'saving' from one application into the folder of another application, (like an image from Photoshop to the runtime textures folder), and stores the file in a safe virtual area. Just find it and drag it into the folder you wanted to in the first place, it's very simple and only takes a moment.
This is all due to security, and personally I like the security aspect of Vista.
I come from XP on my last PC and I wouldn't want to go back, it seemed to attract far more trouble than Vista to me:)

If this is already included in this thread then I agree: -
An object/character selection 'Include - Exclude' dialogue box for both lights and shadows.
eg: - Light 1 lights the character and floor but not the backdrop
casts shadows on the character and backdrop but not the floor
Light 2 Light the character and the backdrop but not the floor
Casts shadows on the floor and character but not the backdrop
Would have liked this in Poser 8, maybe service release 2 :)
Thread: Poser Shadow Prevention | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Oops a daisy!
My apologies Miss Nancy, it does work :)
I wasn't getting the results at first due to my using a Diffuse node to plug into the Alternate Diffuse as a test, this still gave shadows.
I used a 2D Image node and Bob's Yor Uncle the shadows disappeared. Should have tried that first :)
Thread: Poser Shadow Prevention | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi Miss Nancy,
This is an interesting topic, this is one of the things that I miss in Poser as I often need a surface to not receive shadows, in other applications there's usually a check box or exclusion dialogue for the surface or light..
I tried your suggestion regards zeroing all the material settings on the materials surface and using alternative diffuse, but it made no difference, shadows were still cast onto the surface that shouldn't receive shadows as though I'd done nothing to the shader.
If there's another way to exclude surfaces from receiving shadows I'd be gratefull for any advice too :)
Thread: How to set up a better background on this one? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi,
I would place a row of houses or something accross the horizon line and have the sky and sun etc shining over them towards the camera.
The way I see the image is that there is no background per se, just an horizon line and a sky backdrop.
Cheers,
Thread: FIX: How to avoid crashing with poser 8 when entering material room. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Also (sorry if someones already said this in another thread) I am running Poser 8 with the Avast antivirus 'Standard Shield' paused, I disconnect from the internet first (a couple of clicks). I haven't had a crash since and I can select any material I like from the drop down menus, which is a relief:)
