Thread: Vue gallery looking more and more like a Poser gallery | Forum: Vue
As has already been pointed out here, we have been through all of this before. Poser and Vue go hand in hand and always will, the reason? Because Vue scenes look better, and feel more realistic when they have Poser characters in them.. But when does a picture start crossing the line between them? Who knows.. I use 3D Studio to create models for my scenes, and I 'have' used Poser also to add characters, but my scenes are never heavily influenced by either program, predominantly it is Vue that you see when you look at my work, and heres a good example: In my gallery the heaviest use of other programs is in 'My Venice'. Everything here is modelled in 3d Studio max (with the obvious exception of the trees) what you are looking at is 90% actually 'created' with max, but does that make it a 3D studio pic? No.. and here's why. I have 'composed' the image and the models within Vue. I have textured every object within Vue (over 200 of them and thats no quick feat I can tell you) I have lit the scene with several lights, changing bumpmaps, textures etc to get the feel and look I wanted. And I have rendered the scene in Vue (this adds a severe amount of weight to it being a Vue picture in my opinion) Then I did postwork in Photoshop, quite a bit actually... So, its a mish mash of 3 programs now, but the main reason I posted it in the Vue gallery is because 'most' of what you see is done with Vue. The textures alone (which lets be honest are one of the most important success or failure processes in creating the kind of work showcased here on Renderosity) are entirely done with Vue. Now, I realise that you are not talking about 3DStudio, and your original issue was with Poser, I am simply using 3d Studio as an example of how much other programs can be used in conjunction with Vue to create art. Its the only program I use a lot in my scenes as I am not a heavy Poser user and I dont want to start pulling other peoples work apart to get my point across. A point that we as Vue users, have had to defend time and time again. The bottom line as I see it is simply... If the majority of the creation process is done in Vue, then its a view pic. Kutter.

Thread: Video Tutorials for Vue!! | Forum: Vue
Thx for you input folks. I suspect that a lot of people would like to learn this way, and perhaps they could become a regular thing here at Renderosity... Who knows, its just really an idea at the moment. Quoll, thx for your suggestions my friend. I do intend to 're-hash' the manual, but only for the sake of completeness. My intention other than that is to do exactly as you suggest, and base the tutorials around techniques and application of the different areas in Vue. I would like very much for someone to be able to learn Vue 'from scratch' as it were from my tutorials alone, and this will of course involve covering the stuff in the manual. Although it will be done from 'my' side of the fence... (i have to admit as to never reading the entire manual myself!) :) I am no profesional when it comes to Vue, I can only give 'my own' perspective of how it all works. Some things still confuse me enourmously, but I feel I know enough to ground people fairly well in different aspects, and give them enough understanding to go and experiment on their own. I wont be touching areas that I am not 100% conversant with. If I have to guess, whats the point. Later tutorials will definately be on specific projects, as this is a great way to teach. Each person doing the tutorials will have something tangible for their time listning to me rant on and on :) But for the first few, my intention is to enable almost anyone to be able to pick up Vue and start to create something they are happy with. Thanx again, Kutter.
Thread: First Pic in Gallery. | Forum: Vue
Hi JW, I don't really know how to word this, as each time i try (i have attempted to write this twice now) either I come off as a narrow minded idiot who only looks at certain peoples work, or it sounds like i'm coming down on you... Neither of which could be further from the truth! Firstly let me say that your re-render of your picture is stunning! I really mean that, its a great image, a beautiful lighting setup, and you have some brilliantly modelled items in there! I honestly have no crit whatsoever! Next let me say that yes, your thumbnail 'did' put me off. But not in the sence you would think. I'm not someone that just instantly dismisses anyones work here at Renderosity. Mikeangelo and to a lesser extent the others in this thread have alighted to an unwritten law that seems to be at work here at Renderosity. It may seem sad, and narrowminded of folks to be this way, but when you regularly post comments and get involved here you will find that more and more of you time is spent on commenting, and instant messaging. This is not a chore, I like commenting and getting involved, but I for one only have so much time :( The 'reason' I skipped your image by, put simply, is because the thumbnail didn't grab me. (see what i mean by no mater how i put this i sound like im just 'dissmissing!') For me to look at work by an artist I don't know, takes a thumbnail that jumps out at me because as I have already mentioned, I just don't have the time. This way I realise I miss some great artwork, I know this... But there is, as much as any of the people here would like to see it otherwise, an etiquette to follow. Now I have someone else to watch, and I don't see you having any problems here, as I think you will gain a great many fans! Welcome to the Vue gallery! Kutter.
Thread: The current Top 20 - October-09-2003 | Forum: Vue
Yeah, its an interesting point about the 'being a known' persona here on Renderosity to make the Top 20; and to a point I agree... However, lets look at 'why' the people who always make it (sorry guys gonna pick on you a bit :P) make it regularly to the hot 20. First of course is there talent! I mean, regulars to the top 20 are Sacada, Erka, Thomas Krahn, Margit1, DJeser, Pmermino, Madasatadpole, ZXVB, RDS(shoop), to name but a few. Take a look at thier galleries, and you will soon see why they are this popular. Its got nothing to do with the name - its all in how good they are at what they do! 2ndly, is thier presence here on Renderosity. What I mean here is their dedication to helping out and pushing new talent. I for instance dont have time to comment on all pics here, but a lot of the above named comment on 70 - 80% of the pics posted. Credit where its due people! These folks put in the time, and rightfully they reek the benefit! 3rdly is the fact that the same people on Renderosity vote all the time, and they find the 'worthy' pictures often by the name thats under it... This I think is wrong, but its impossible to change, as thumbnails don't show a pic for what it is, and as WingedOne pointed out it shouldn't be about the name, but about the picture! I think it would be really nice for everyone that posts here to become regularly involved in voting for images. I'd like nothing more than to see a number one with 100+ votes, it would make it a much more enlightening experience to get there :) Not only that it would make it more of a regular feature for all of us, with more challenge to get there.. Please don't get me wrong, Renderosity is NOT about competing with each other, but a little friendly rivalry keeps us all on our toes, and pushes us to greater things. :) But short of making voting compulsory, this will probably not happen. I think as a community Renderosity does have its little cliques (sp?) of people, which is a shame. But thats human nature and not something that can be changed. But for those reading this (if you made it this far, you must have some interest in Renderosity and what we have been talking about-lol) do your best to get more involved... Give credit where its due, even if you 'don't' recognise the name (we all started somewhere right?) and lets try and make Renderosity a little fairer! (well our own Vue gallery at least :)) Wow, this turned into a rant i didn't expect LOL.. but for those that know me, this long post will have come as no suprise. Kutter.

Thread: VUE's *MANY* DEFICIENCIES: Does PRO correct these ??? | Forum: Vue
Well, I cant help with the animation side of things, but I would like to comment on some of the others. 1st up, OpenGL... Ouch! I have to agree with you here, the openGL support for Vue is absolutely 'disasterous' I recently bought myself a Radeon 6800 PRO card. A card capable of enourmous things with OpenGL, but even this crawls on Vue with only a few objects. The Vue 4 PRO Open GL I have heard from people using it is MUCH better although still seems a little flaky! Next Booleans... Yes you did miss it in the manual. Vue is actually fairly good at booleans (put it this way, personally I think it does a better job at Boolean than 3dStudio does, although I grant you 3dstudio's boolean has always been a debating point!) Its not brilliant at multiobject boolean, and can cause strange effects in textures, but on the whole its pretty good. Next Glacially slow updates... Use layers and turn them on + off. I believe its what most people do, as there doesn't appear to be much choice. But once again, PRO does seem to have improved this a lot! Finally, the playing of music while using Vue... Oh yes you can! and without stutters too. This is actually windows being gargantuanly awful at using resources (name something it isn't gargantuanly bad at LOL) but you can change it if your using WinXP like so: (im not sure how to do this in Win98 as I never came across it, but I'm sure its possible - maybe even exactly the same) CTRL ALT DELETE to bring up task manager. Right click on your player in the list and set the Priority to 'Realtime' this will bring up a warning message which is safe to ignore and click yes to, as your only affecting your mp3 player and not a system resource that would crash the machine if you tried this (thats what the message is about)... Hope some of this helps, or adds fuel :) Kutter.

LMAO - Similar problems here im afraid... A few weeks ago my girlfriend and I were out for a sunny afternoon stroll, I told her I would take her somewhere beautiful! We are very lucky here to have a great deal of awesome scenery and old buildings castles etc... But today was going to be a trip to a secluded beach... Unfortunatley this took us through a wooded area, where I wasted much of our time asking her to wait a while, while I took photo's of the ground and tree bark! Later in Venice, she disowned me and walked off insisting i was completely mad when in the middle of hundreds of tourists taking photo's of Venice and its beauty, I was the one taking pictures of the walls :) I feel your pain folks, but hey we love what we do right?? Kutter. P.S. If anyone wants copies of the pics i took of Venice textures, just send me an instant message :) (I may post them at some point in free stuff, but if i do that I'll crop them etc, and at the moment I don't have the time :( )
