I use many different programs and sure you can not compare Poser with them. but I do not think that it is a comfort bubble for the users to stay or use Poser and or Daz studio. Allot have huge collections of models, big investments, Years of work assembling a useful library .... Fully addicted on collecting these assets --->> they might not even use ! It is like a Drug . If one like you say jump out of there comfort bubble , how long would it take the one to rebuild the collection made the past decades ?? 1 day 1 week 1 month 1 year or a whole Decade ??
So for sure it is not because one would not be capable using another program either it is a Comfort bubble. It is how much time and efforts one Invested in the Passion he is having . Changing jumping to something else is the easy choice, we already are living in a evolution that runs way to fast what you have today will already be an antique tomorrow , no time left for creativity. How many Programs will be Improved this year ? You barely have the time learning the basics using the program in a Professional way before a better new one comes out throwing you back to zero :)

jup very true, well the name say's it all ( Poser ) not to mention the ease to find stuff in a assorted library to set up your scene, oh and the lights, the cameras a real comfort zone in Poser. Easy Ik's setup and the Power of Easy-Pose . Morphing with just a few clicks or spinning a little wheel .... there is a whole list of positive aspects in Poser. and you can feed it with almost anything to expand your easy to use library collection a big ++ for these Collectors

it is in most cases normal that by exporting a FBX it will not maintain the pose as it takes the Geometry info and not the Cr2 Pose info so files load normally in zero Positions. It is not a FBX Issue at all, same would happen when exporting a model from blender to Poser it will zero the model to the Geometry coordinates. to have a posed figure exported you need to burn in the geometry, in this case it would work. In one hand for the creation of models it is better this way else the symmetry would get lost.
even if you parent things to a figure not burning in the new coordinates will cause issues and reposition the parts, it is where users mostly think that there is a issue with the export import format, but it is not the format that is causing the issue it is on how it is build up. and there are many factors that can cause unpleasant results. Poser is very exact and needs very clean geometry setups, not like DS that does not even care about the Polygon sides, Poser does not like scrambled Polygon sides for example.

thank you @ NikKelly
this one is a release that I am about to make .... a little more colorful and not that much horror style. I mean sure a reason to think of using Poser. And might also make renderosity a little aware that it would be worth Improving a little there marketing strategies towards the Creators, vendors and customers overthinking all the proposals that have been made as the RMP Poser sections are really slowing down more and more. Already just by removing that call home system would be a great gesture showing that they do not fallow the old Smith micro Strategies.

Renders always advertise the software they use. Look here in the Poser gallery. Is this gallery make you want to buy Poser? Everbody will have his own opinion on this, but why is Poser no longer the market leader?
The gallery nor the RMP store does give any reasons to upgrade Poser that is sad and very true, and sure is that people make there opinions based on the visuals they are getting . I do not think that poser ever was a market leader, it probably never will be one but for some it is of high value, it has , or lets say had really great options and still has possibilities beyond any imagination. I personally do not agree with allot of things on how Renderosity ( Bondware ) is marketing Poser . Sure they might be just coders and not very experienced on making 3D , so all it needs is some that are capable of making good stuff , and for sure it can be done , no doubt about it , the new creators just got no Idea on how to. Rernderosity is not a big help to introduce these into the matter. Guess they have them selves not enough Knowledge on creating things for Poser.
But if a individual artists just sits a little on it he might figure out allot of possibilities using poser, it is not really the Programm that is an issue, it is the one that sits behind it using it, not really depending on the program it self as it has great options it is what the artist makes out of it.
Sure I personally blame the staff for this mess, for all the lies, for the loss, but at the end it can be changed, like mentioned, just make your own bridges make your own Extension, Make a Blender Bridge, I did, so it means that it is possible and if I can then I Believe that allot others can to. Each artist just needs to find he's own style and it is hard work to be a good artist for sure.

in the other hand if you wish to show your loaded background image then it might be best to open the Hierarchy editor, found in the Windows tab of Poser once open you can hide and unhide the Ground to make your background Image visible.
Thread: Background images hidden below main window | Forum: Poser 12
Have you tried to launch it back on factory state ? go to edit ---> General Preferences set the dot there Launch to factory state. Or go on Display -----> Clear background Picture
I might not be of much help as I do not run Poser 12 ...

Actually I work with Groboto, LW, Carrara and Blender . All work just fine bridging with Poser sending for the rigging back and forth. What I can tell FBX is an option but not the best choice. Sure PMX and XPS would be an option but it would result being a real mess as of it might subdivide your Body Parts and you would end up with a load Conformed Parts. Your whole rigging would explode like stepping on a Land Mine LOL, you could not merge the parts also not to forget a smooth subdivision would also rip apart the polygons as these mostly are not Merged. You have no alternative then to rebuild the whole Polygon surface to have a clean mesh, a main reason why FBX can cause issues.
Not the FBX it self is the issue but how the mesh surface is build up and where the geometry coordinates are of the Parts you Import , Import is always zero of the geometry , allot of times it is not how you see it while you work on it. So from my experience there is nothing to be fixed :) it all works like a charm. It is not the version you use to Import it is how you build the Bridge between the Import and Poser.
This is the figure I am working at , like mentioned it is fully rigged in 1 hour and Poser ready. Had no time today to work on it, so will work a little on the texturing and Adjust the Joint orientations before I release it .
And NikKelly stay on it I am sure you are going to figure out a good way as it all works like a charm ....

Last night I worked on a Freebie .... A dead Creature on a pedestal , actually Dead so enough to be static ! The creature has a complex body like the one above, just that it has gotten Claws like spider legs on each side of the chest. But still Dead , so thinking lazy no need to be rigged. I still thought it might be a little boring so I just loaded a set of Bones! first on the Left side and the center. I quickly named them and set the hierarchy, a half hour of work. Then I just hit to mirror set to Right as we want both sides to be working right. After renaming the right side I just had to hit "enter" ... all bending all Groups are created with just the enter button. Back to the bridge in Poser ! a little test and it bends like a charm, No Breaks , nothing needs to be fixed just have to adjust the Joint orientations.
all this took about an hour , faster then your Render! Faster then your Artwork setup, Something that DS sure can't do and I mean that is real Power and fun to work with.
But since all stud still since 2014 allot of creators thought to jump on DS they never realized what poser really is capable of they did not even try so how could they know how easy it can be !
Thread: Free version of Poser a benefit to vendors? | Forum: Poser 12
Thank you !
It is actually what I mean, Poser has a extreme potential, sure there are allot of other high end programs I also need these to be able to get good models done. Somehow Poser stud still as Creators stopped to make further creations and developments. Right now Creators are just stuck in these Triax capsule WM rigging that is causing often breaks in Joints, like the shoulders , Thigh, Knee, Elbows and even Fingers. But there is way more and it was already introduced in Poser 2014! since then I am working on these Bridges, Learning every day . So Woow there are no more Issues with these Joints you can also mix between Hard shell and soft bending, all in one Figure, without breaks or distortions.
Not even DS reached this level as it still is using triax. But Poser Can and it is what really makes big fun. Once you get such a figure in your hands , realizing woow smooth shoulder bending , no breaks , no fix needed then you sure realize how great it is to work with a 3D model.

Ok ... it is not a pretty Poser figure, but it is bad ass, offering something else then the usual pretty dolls that are released in masses. Another big advantage that Poser has to offer. Well customers are missing a byt but that might change with time, Important is just to release stuff that Ds has not to offer, making them say " I wish it was for DS "
And Bondware should really start working a little on there marketing system ! Not just building up the Rendo Store into Poser as if there are no new models in the Store it would be a big waist of energy.
Thread: Free version of Poser a benefit to vendors? | Forum: Poser 12
The big advantage of Poser is that it has the option having a large amount of standalone figures that are fairly easy to create with outstanding results. People are fixed at Clones or morphs like in DS, causing that standalone models get very rare, ok poser does not have many creators at the moment, but what you can do in a few days in poser would take you weeks if not month in Daz studio. It probably would not even be possible atm!
This is a model that I am about to release containing over 220 bones ( Articulations ) including facial articulations. A Render needs more then just a Pretty doll, Daz studio might be great as there allot of creators on it but tell me how many pages do you have to scroll to find a Standalone figure with it's own articulation system not based on a Genesis? Poser has the option due the built in engine to make it possible just the Creators forgotten about it as they fallow the costumers and these naturally picked the Free choice of DS.
If Rendo would just make a small smart step and listen a little what people have to say then Poser might have a good chance again. You can't teach on how to do it if there are no students that want to learn.
Thread: Free version of Poser a benefit to vendors? | Forum: Poser 12
I wish I could do it the opposite way and export my models to Daz studio, but how hard I try I never get the correct results. It breaks my rigging every time ! I know that Daz Studio supports this Weight Map Technologie but something is just preventing the Import of the models. Would it work I could make it for both Poser And Daz !
To Import from Ds to Poser there is actually no Problems for any model.
And yes that Pyton issue sure is a loss of updates made the past Decades restricting the creation workflow in any level. It would take Decades again to integrate all the missing parts into Poser 12
Thread: Free version of Poser a benefit to vendors? | Forum: Poser 12
Time will tell what position Poser will have in the future.
I can only contribute with the advanced models that I create awake a little the interest to customers, what potential Poser is actually having. Like you say it has nothing other programs do not have, but it has a wide range of hidden integration because most part of poser is build up using open source features. So the range of possibilities is not limited. Poser woks on the same principal like Blender with pyton integration giving a extreme wide range of possibilities.
If the owners act stupid and limit there flexibility then it might just end up as history. Right now they do not seem to have eaten Intelligence with a teaspoon. In one way it might be just ok the way it goes right now, the more people lose interest the more the Possibilities that it will be free and that the Call home will be removed.
Meanwhile I just continue to expand the Bridges and the rigging development for Poser to a extreme level :) and this can not be beaten by DS atm.
@ wolf359
I do like the work you are doing in your creations and Clips, they are amazing. Showing a great level of know how ....

From my part I worked in Poser for almost 2 decades, meanwhile developed improved rigging systems, bridges with 3D creation programs and I continue finding solutions for figure creations. All this for Poser ! the actual situation is sure not very motivating and still Poser still has some outstanding features that others do not have, it would be a pity to lose these. To make you understand my poser setup works sort of like a Nexus-mod used in Oblivion at the time.
Many friends jumped to Daz Studio after the change to Poser 11.2 and would I of found a solution to integrate my work into DS I would also of jumped, but I have not found the code jet. Often I try, getting very close but then BUM again and all explodes. What I am trying to say is, is that the way things are handled with Poser just are going the wrong way at the moment.
Sure they will be forced to change there marketing strategies one day or another, no matter if there is a thread asking for solution, or asking them giving you a little hand. All is just a matter of Time :)
