Also think about what "style" you want to be known for. I like to get to know a reviewer. After a while, I can see a movie and think "So-and-so is going to nail this turkey", or "So-and-so probably broke down crying while watching this scene". I like personal, if it doesn't interfere with my ability to judge the facts. Often, I can even think after a review "I'd like this movie/game, even though this reviewer didn't".

The correct form historically: Cavins' However, language changes as people's use of it changes. Speak it out loud. Which would you say? If you would speak Ca-vins-es, then add the second "s" when you write it.

And having said that, "extract" might be another way to be a good citizen: make the thumbnail from just a key part of the image, relevant to what you have written. Then in the credits, say that's what you've done. Again, the goal here is that any interested reader must follow the link. Therefore, your use doesn't conflict with original author's use -- in fact, you've done them a "favor", by promoting awareness of the image, and its containing web page. There's my ultimate definition of how to avoid copyright violation: only do things that would make any copyright holder happy :-D

--"Republication" Unfortunately, re-posting a picture on the internet is generally forbidden by copyright, ESPECIALLY since it is so dang easy for anyone to download it. Short Answer: All you are permitted to do is put a LINK to the original page containing the picture. - - - - - Slightly Longer Answer: I think a THUMBNAIL of the picture would be fine, combined with proper credits, and a link to the original. The thumbnail should be small enough so that anyone who is interested in the picture would need to go to the original to see the details. That way, it is more of a "memory aid" or "reference" than a reproduction. I don't know if there is such a "legal" distinction; this is my grappling for a graphic equivalent to the right to paraphrase and to quote extracts from a written work.

Cloudy days are what do me in. Cold and clear is fine. "Seasonal Affective Disorder" anyone? My daughter shows the same mood influence. But then, she's a teenager, so has lots of reasons for mood swings. LOL

Brian, what's with all the "...."? I'm finding it more work to follow your thoughts, than a more traditional writing style. I believe in this basic principle: Work hard, so that the reader doesn't have to work as hard. (In my case, my shortcoming is being too analytic. Too stiff. Too many hedges and caveats. "Steve, just spit it out." ) Food for thought 8-P

Here is a little vignette, that points at my interest in reaching younger folk... "There are TWO magic boxes?" asked Alice, growing perplexed. "There are as many magic boxes as your imagination can hold" answered CheshireCat123, as its post began to scroll away. Oddly, its g remained fixed in the middle of the screen. "Box #2 was the Gryphic-Graphic Thesaurus and Possible-Realities Historian. Box #1 was the Potterian Rearranger, in which you ask the pictures to stand on tiptoes, and they stick out their tongues and make faces at you. I'm sure you'll meet more boxes, by skipping stones and weaving wheat." Alice tried to picture "skipping stones" and "weaving wheat", but her young life lacked experiences that matched those phrases, so her images were vague and hazy...

violet--"capture a mood/feeling close enough as the writer intended it" I see computer smarts evolving to COMPLEMENT people smarts. The computer's strength is ORGANIZATIONAL. Under human guidance, it can collect and name and inter-connect lots and lots of alternatives. While its a magic box, I see it as a magician's assistant -- still needing a magician to be of service to. So it might take a stab at what mood you mean, based on key words and phrases. I see it as quickly generating a number of alternatives. Then you, the magician, say "more like this, less like that", and it tries to comply, giving you a new set of alternatives. You may also EXPLAIN what mood you intended. And you may POINT OUT what it is that doesn't match your intent. Like a thesaurus, you can find NEAR-BY alternatives, that you might not have thought of. With luck, this dance between person and machine, leads to something interesting, more quickly and more effectively than either could do alone.

Brian--"are you planning to post some type of works here in the future?" Yes, indeed! Poser-compatible utilities and add-ons. First one next month. It is not directly related to this topic. "WardrobeValet", it adapts clothes from one Poser character to another. Also contains a "3D Clothes Internet Directory", which is my first teensy weensy step towards cataloging graphic stuff. If you look at www.shawstudio.com, the sidebar on the right, you'll see mention of a LINGUISTIC project (currently on hold) that relates more deeply to my desire to organize meanings, and then use that to help people communicate. Eventually, everything I do ties together...

roadrunner: While an image catches my eye, I would no more click on that particular image, than I would click on a post with a heading of "Help" -- with no information about WHAT Help is needed (And I like to help people). Whether words or image, when browsing, I want enough "information" to judge whether something is likely to interest me. Information lies in the relationships between the parts. Here, are just two parts: the roadrunner, and the help sign. Sorry, not enough. I don't care. Now, if that image were juxtaposed with something relevant to the story, that started to make a statement... then I would at least consider clicking.

Ok, thanks -- I see it. Bought it. Made copy of original M3->M2. In text editor, copied lines from Achilles' M3 MM, under actor head / channels: targetGeom JowelInR ... until just before targetGeom HdAfrican Loaded the modified CR2 into Poser from library. It worked! the new morph poses inject fine. (This works because the heads are identical, so morphs are compatible). - - - - - Shameless plug: And if you REALLY want M2's clothing to fit on M3's body, then buy WardrobeValet when it comes out next month. Select target figure. Select cloth. Push button. You might also be able to adapt satisfactorily using existing utilities: Clothes Converter, or The Tailor (see DAZ forum entry about using M3->M2 and M3 as "manikins" in the tailor).

Being analytical: words are more "abstract" than images. An image contains more "concrete" cues. "tiger" covers a range of beasts, and hints at many related ones, whereas a picture tends to show a particular tiger. Even when words are woven together to describe a specific scene, alternate possible scenes aren't far away. Consider looking at an image of a large tiger, crouched, ready to spring at a small child. Is the child Asian? European? Well, its probably African, since its a tiger. But the fear would be universal. A graphic can be a powerful way to convey a fearful image. But it could also subtly distract - in some corner of my mind: "at least it isn't 'me/someone who looks like me/someone who looks like people I am close to' who is threatened" Still, I think the tiger picture could scare me more easily than tiger words, as the words are easier to turn away from / gloss over. And that might lead me to relate more to the humanity of the threatened child. Like pictures of the wounded in a war - who cares what ethnicity they are? Puts a brake on the thinking of "Only so many [insert your nationality] were killed." - - - - - But back to disadvantages of an image being so concrete. I think of images of Jesus when I was growing up, here in the States. In hindsight, the ethnicity of those images was ludicrous. I can see why the churches used images like this - they would hate to have the Christian Saviour be one of "them" instead of one of "us" ;-D But that distortion almost certainly made it easier for discrimination to continue. Living in the Middle Eastern climate, in an agrarian society two thousand years ago, how dark would Jesus of Nazareth' skin have been?!

Cool responses! Gee, I didn't even think about SOUND, but as long as I've got a magic box, might as well have that option :-) Jon's response, and dialyn's discussion of music makes me think of another variation on this magic box: graphic box #2 contains hundred zillion different pictures made by artists and photographers (trying to work around jon's essay generator metaphor, which would indeed be drek). You: "Once upon a time, there was a princess, who lived in a castle, at the top of a hill." Box: shows a picture from one of the fairy tale books. You: "Sort of. But the kingdom is kind of poor, the scenery should be a bit darker, more anxious, I don't want this happy-happy feel. And I'm tired of King Arthur and the Round Table -- Hey, did they have castles in Persia?" Box: shows five different alternatives. One is a fortified town from an Eastern European outpost of the Ottoman empire, during its decline in early 1800's. You: forget the castle, that looks interesting. What would the daughter of the guy in charge look like? ...

randym77--"M3 head sculpture pack from DAZ, and I'm pretty happy with it. You get a new M3 figure with an extra 250 channels, for new head morphs" Hmm. I don't see a product at Daz with that name. Are you talking about the M3 Head Morph Pak? I guess not, because that should inject into M3->M2 as easily as to M3... Whatever it is, it shouldn't be too hard to transfer the channels to M3->M2 using some utility. Once I know what you're referring to, I can take a look at the CR2 to confirm that...
