Interesting topic again. On one hand, this pure pursuit will drive the technology forward. The new features of Poser 6 are coming out of the need for a better render at the outset. Nothing wrong with that. I have recently begun to see 3d models as a way of shaping "paint" tho. In most cases, that "model" you are seeing in the image is really a painted image wrapped around a 3d object. As displacement mapping technology improves, the map will be doing even more of the "modeling" work. So, texture maps are "post" from the beginning. If you are gonna do this, texture maps that are painted/photos would be out, and only procedural ones would be allowed. I am not sure if anyone would want to do this, as a V3 procedural texture I don't think exists. I think what you guys want is a "render only gallery". This gallery could be for all softwares, and be only about rendering.

I started 2000. I downloaded the demo from CL, then went out and bought a computer and ordered a copy of Poser 4 from CL. So, I bought the computer just to do Poser. Luckily I have found other uses for it too, hehehehe....

I always look at the 3d images at cgtalk (of course no Poser there) and marvel at the great high-end software renders. Then I go to the 2d section, and I see pure Photoshop and Painter works that just kick the 3d stuff's butt. I mean they are just more imaginative in general. Just an observation to throw in. So, I agree with kawecki that there is a lot to be done in 3d yet, until it can accomodate the imaginations of the artists without it being so much work. It seems to me that 3d alone is still way too much work getting great results. My two-billionths of a cent.

Smoovie, that doesn't sound right at all. I took that class and everything was great. Randy will prolly help. His Renderosity name is RandyRives, I believe. You can get him right through IM.

I use Cinema4D. I got the version C4D6CE free from an online class, I was going to tell you more about it, since I think it will suit you better.

Sorry it took me a while to get back on this. I have the ProPack disc in the box, I think all I have to do is sign the liscense transfer thing and send it to you in the mail. I think it has it's own serial number, I'll have to dig the box out, I recently moved, and I have the disc stored in a safe place, but the box and serial # are another matter. I know I saved it tho. I'll locate the box tonight, and if you IM your address to me I'll put it in the mail tommorrow. This I understand, is a completely legal transfer of the liscense. Then you can use Python all you want.

Oh. Uhm, maybe someone could translate it for you. I was wondering if you were close by because I have ProPack and don't really want it anymore. I've decided to abandon Poser because of it's rendering problems.

I quit using Poser while ago, but I think you can't run the script outside of Poser. Stewer might be able to help here. From what used to be true, Traveler had made some free lightsets and they were over at RuntimeDNA I think. By the way, it appears from your gallery that you might be located in Ohio. Are you near Columbus?
Thread: Anyone Rendered Poser Scenes in Cinema 4D v6 CE ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi all! As a recent Poser to C4d convert, I'll tell ya the goods. C4d renders the same render as Poser would in like 10% of the time. Plus it has area lights, point lights and soft shadows. I went from it taking a week to explore an image concept in Poser to one night in C4D. That is a workflow increase worth a lot of money. Secret, C4D6CE is free. Some got it off the cover of the mag, but you can also take a 20.00 class at eclecticacademy.com, and you get the program free there. From what I understand, it's also a commercial version. (Don't quote me on that). Now the six week class is in newbie level modeling. I went thru the class and in six weeks I can model anything I want. So, now not only is my workflow much faster, I can model the odd prop when I need it. The class doesn't take you up to characters, but it leaves you in a position to go that route if you want to. Plus, the class qualifies you for a academic version of C4D9 for 295$. Most of the modules to boot. As soon as I started C4d, I never looked back. Poser is only a plugin to me now(albiet a great one!.) Now the bonus: C4d is easy, easy to use. If you know Poser interface, you will be very happy with an "almost 0" learning curve. Don't be at all afraid to jump in. You will be very happy you did. I sure was.

Thnaks Dave, I found it and got a print. Looks like for modeling, the standard version is the way to go.

Hi Stewer! This comes at an opportune time for me, I was about to buy C4D. Does the middle version of Shade have all three algorithms? In other words, radiosity for diffuse to diffuse transfer, photon mapping for caustics, and a basic GI setup? If so, 150 US is a steal. In your opinion, how does Shade 7 then compare to C4D? I know C4D has no auto Poser import (no commercial one anyway), so that's not quite as good as Shade 7 from an immediate usability standpoint. If it renders just as well, with maybe exception of the subsurface scattering then I'm thinking Shade is hands down the way to go.

So it has GI? Is in this case GI differnet than Radiosity? does the LE Version have radiosity? I wanted to download the .pdf on the differences from each other, but the link is not working. Thanks!
