hehe - 90% of all my macro attempts turn out rubbish. The shallow DoF makes it very tricky to get a good looking photo (for me at least ;) ). I end up taking lots of pictures at different settings and pray one comes out well enought to use :D I think you've done a good job considering how difficult I know it is. :) :)

That is an awesome first entry! I agree with what others have said, its not the camera as much as the person using it, and knowing how to get the best out of it :) Welcome to R'osity!

Looks great :) So are you finding hte 50mm works best direct on the camera? I was under the impression that when people use reversed lenses they put the 50mm on the end of the longer lens. But hey, whatever works I say :) :) Looking forward to seeing the results of the tinkers!

I had a car stereo stolen some years ago, it sucks bigtime, and that was only a hundreds quids worth. Nothing compared to even a single decent lens :( I hope you insurance covers you, and that they cough up soon. Feel real bad for you :(

I totally loose track of time when I'm out looking for stuff like this - I'd have got wet ;)

I used to commute into London, and into one of the stations bombed today :o - Those responsible are cowardly, barbaric, sadistic scum sucking molluscs :( As far as I can tell, all my work collegues, friends and family are safe (we had two guys from work up in London today, ironically meeting with the London Fire Brigade!). I just hope that no one that posts here has been caught up in it, nor their friends, family or work colleagues. Current news reports estimate up to 50 dead :( if true though, considering how many people cram into those tubes in the mornings on the way to work, it could have been alot worse. Thoughts and prayers with all those affected.

Composition - basically how you've framed your subject in the picture to produce a pleasing result. There are loads of composition guides on the net, the link I've provided here is as good as any.Thread: Beginner | Forum: Photography
I agree with Joe about the experimentation advice. I've found I learn alot more by "doing" first, and then when back home reviewing the pics I work out what went right, and what went wrong. So go out, take loads of pics and when you find you need some advice, post the pic in the forum here and ask. I can guarantee these guys here will be more than helpful :) Finally, you ask... "And also are there some unwritten rules that I should be looking at when taking pics... Lighting, size, angel, what's "boring" and not..." Rules? Yes there are some "rules" of composition and what not, but they are not "strict" rules, and there are many excellent pictures out there that break them. I'd buy a book or two on basic photography techniques to get some ideas and inspiration, and maybe subscribe to a photography magazine of some sort ( something Ive been meaning to do for some time). The biggest thing you need to develop is an eye for good composition - always be thinking about it when taking pictures, experiment, and soon you'll begin to instictive know whats working, and whats not :)
