Valuable and wise comments there, Bopper and many thanks for them.
I was lucky enough to be invited to ine of the Goldcoasts leading graphics labs. here in Australia.
They use Poser7 with a quad setup and a Nvidea Quadro FX3000.
The guy in charge said it took just about two days to configure the Quadro to accept Poser but wowie what results they get !
No more messing about with "show populated". Just leave everything on full and the preview window just hums along. No stutters or stammers. No halting or stopping when panning or rotating.
So smooth and the preview render looks so bloody close to a final render it would drop the jaw of anyone.
However the price of such fluidity is about the price of 4 excellent computers with monitors !!
Too expensive for me. I'll stick with my old openGL card for now but I'm saving up !!
Thanks again for those words of wisdom, Bopper and more piccies please !! :)

Degenerated ? Not at all. All your creative and exciting work is wonderful to behold !
It' great to see how things are panning out for you and your obvious joy in these outcomes.
There is so much that the old Hair Room is capable of ith some effort and good on you for getting into it.
Soon you'll be the Jedi of the Hair room :)
I saw mentioned that the hair line was a bit too bold for some folk.
Using the "soft root" option often will give the hair line a more organic look as will a more tesselated mesh in the appropriate area.
By the way, I don't yet have Poser8. Can you tell me, Believable, if you've noticed any speed ups with Poser8 in the hair Room ?
I've just attached a render that I did and like you I stopped it part way through the sim. !!
Please keep up your very informative and valuable posts and renders !!

Wonderful work and fantastic to actually see someone experimenting with what is one of the least used and understood "rooms" in Poser.
You are doing things just fine and you will get even better.
It's a pity that the Hair Room isn't more interactive with the user but that must wait for even faster CPU's !!
I've attached some of the stuff I've done lately as you did ask :)
Thanks for sharing yours, Believable :)
Thread: 3d max in poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The sort of reaction to the 3ds format as written by the above posters is to be expected by folk who are mostly use 3D as a hobby and use it badly.
There is most probably an element of jealousy amongst their ignorance. :)
Apart from being the most widely used object format it is also the most stable.
A FREE program called "Imagine" will import and export objects in a "3DS" format very well indeed if that's what you want !
Just search for "Imagine 3D" and down load what is probably one of the best little FREEÂ 3D programs there are.

Depends who's breathing.
Breathtaking renders and Poser don't really go hand in hand.
Most will have tons of postwork to camoflage the Poser faults.
Show us yours !

Just get a decent opengl graphics card and throw away your gaming card which was NOT made for any serious 3D work.
It's that simple.
It depends on just how serious you are about 3D.
I guess though that most users here are just part time hobby users so you guys and gals will have to put up with it and keep a-grumblin' and a- grumblin'
It's been happeing for years and people have been posting complaints like this for years
If you must use a gaming card, cut down on it's patheteic implementation of opengl and use a less intensive document preview window mode as already suggested...
If you are seriously concerned..GET A DEDICATED OPENGL CARD. :)
Thread: New Nvidia Drivers | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You poor guys with your games cards. :(
Just save up for a proper opengl card.
Update your driver every 18 months, if that.
And:
No lags, No mouse jerking, lovely previews nearly as good as renders.
No more complaints every week about exactly the same faults.
No more "update drivers to solve this problem" answers, which hardly ever work.
Sure it takes some time with Poser to get the Opengl card "tuned up" but, OH BOY, what a difference!!
Thread: my poser 8 takes a long time to go from render window to the posing window... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This problem pops up now and then with Poser7 people as well.
It's an openGL problem and can be solved by switching to a sree preview or a wireframe or even a Smooth Lined Document display style.
If you want Poser to behave properly then get a dedicated Opengl video card, NOT a games card.
Games cards are horrible for proper 3D work but just about everyone seems to use them and this problem is always coming up for them.
Save up for anOpengl card and you'll be very, very pleasantly surprised :)
Thread: Annoyinng bug in P7 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You'll probably find it an Opengl problem
If you set your display style to say, Smooth Lined or Smooth shaded or wireframe then the update from Rendered to Preview is nearly immediate.
Also switching to Sree will usually help.
Thread: Paste onto background not rendering. P7 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks Dizzi,
If I remember rightly ( and that's quite a task !) it was saved along with the background pic if any.
If no other background pic was imported then it was saved as some odd variation of ascii code. with a jpeg prefix.
You might want to check this link out.
http://www.smercure.com/tutorials_poser/Posing_Tips.htm
It mentions among other things:
The nice thing about pasting is that you can build up a large crowd of people using only one figure in the document window at a time. **Just pose the figure, paste it on the background, then move it (using the camera controls!) to its new position. Then change whatever you have to change-- clothes, hair, coloration, etc., pose the figure in its new position, render it, and paste it on the background.
**
Thread: Paste onto background not rendering. P7 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
As I said above, I have tried all options.
The background picture renders perfectly but the "Pasteonto background" bitmaps only show in the preview window and will not render.
Anyone please???
Thread: Challenge to make Jedi high quality robes. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Good points all.
There is no doubt that dynamic clothing looks so much better than conforming.
Also creation of such clothing is far easier than conforming.
However, until dynamic clothing and CPU's are fast enough to work in real time, just like conforming, then only the most fanatical Poser users will bother with it.
But once this happens, not one person would ever go back to conforming and probably deny they had ever used it at all :)
In the meantime we can be proud(?) to admit that us users of dynamic cloth make up about .1 of 1% of all Poser users... The Fanatics in fact :) :)
