ok I do have one more suggestion... just to prove the point...click "print" and see what happens... white on black does not print anything in most all cases... Brycetech used to be white on black, but there were so many complaints about the lack of print ability that this was changed...hope you can benefit from our/my early errors :) BT

you could make some clouds out of spheres to substitute for the error... I personally like them better anyhow... glad I could help BT

well with url's like: file:///c:/my%20documents/my%20tutorials/tut_files/nogap.jpg its most definitely a bad link :P need to change those...I just looked at it again and they are still down, that is one of the actual image links cut/pasted for you to see later BTThread: Brycetech: New Tutorial | Forum: Bryce
almost every image is broken (this computer has ie4 on it)...Im assuming you have spaces in the image names? Sometimes they just wont work...try removing them and lemme know when you get that fixed btw, at the bottom..if you really want to put any credits to me, please put "BT" instead of "dcrich" thanx BT

Since youve been on EVERY board with this post, Im gonna answer here too, because it is a very interesting observation... its a cumulus cloud thing...and even with everything set to gray or turned off, they were still orange/red until I removed them... good luck BTThread: Brycetech: New Tutorial | Forum: Bryce
Im running the new corel patch. Thus far, it and winME are in total agreement :) and I love the new mapping options they added...very simple changes, but invaluable. Ive only heard of a few problems with their new patch...mostly Mac stuff..which can be expected since Corel isnt really a "mac" group. I have high hopes for them and B5...especially since the uproar that the first 4.1 patch caused with all the bugs. Based on what the folks say that went to B2000 camp, Im very interested in seeing what they do...just so long as they dont screw it up, I welcome any/all changes. I did finally manage to crash winME with this patch...but it took some effort...I crashed it making the "snow" scene above...see I created that whole forest of trees (all 3d models) and as is standard "snow" practice, I duplicated the whole forest and raised it just a smidge...then I went to applying the transparency maps...I guess it was too much RAM swapping...(I'd have hated to actually save that file to see the size itd have been quite scary ;)) cant wait to get a new computer...one that removes the RAM limitation.. and about the tute, if you had to do all that nudging stuff to make it work properly...should most definitely add that...never make a tute that is misleading, if you have to do something a little tedious, the reader needs to know they have to, otherwise the "unseasoned" will think they are making mistakes, and that is very discouraging to them :) later BT

I heard someone mention that this had a bug in it early in 4.0 (and maybe 4.1?) something about spaces being left between the tiling...but by your image, they fixed that. to be honest, Ive never used it but its a nice feature... about the tute, my only suggestion would be to put the text next to the image so one could look at the image at the same time they are reading. For those "seasoned" the text would be great..for those "unseasoned", its just better "tute" practice to give both...makes everybody happy :) oh...I saw one typo, (dont ya hate that...you can read it over and over and over and they STILL get by!) Note : Using the Shift(opt) key with the Arrow keys will double the distance the object it moved. should be: Note : Using the Shift(opt) key with the Arrow keys will double the distance the object is moved. (it-->is) definitely need to let people know about that tute, it will help a lot of 'em. Id make a big noise about it if I were you so lotsa people would see it and pass it on more readily. later BT

not yet hawkfyr, I thought about putting them there first before putting them on the internet...but thats hardly fair to the people that dont get the mag. It is a really cool mag if you havent seen it. I hope that they broaden the spectrum of coverage tho...its fun to read about the big programs, but hardly practical in relation to what we use. However, I enjoy reading it and then trying to make Bryce to the things that they do...I actually think I can do real fur in Bryce now, but making a tute about it would be next to impossible sigh later BT

hi bryce does it all and yep..for a first model..that rocks.. I think mine was the standard passing image of a reflective sphere over water..lol anyhow...enjoy brycin' ! BTThread: Was going to be a niffy trick. Brightness callibration | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

There are 20 color bars above...ranging from Black to White. If you can not see all 20 bars, you need to adjust your monitor's brightness and contrast until all 20 are visible. Not doing so, can result in images appearing too light or too dark. this has become a "standard" on many sites in the bryce community since its showing...and its something that should accompany any image that may be "questionably" dark. It accompanies many of the images at my site and the game "driven" made with Bryce and Raydream thats there too. oh poo put the dolly camera in the location you want the camera if you arent looking thru the dolly camera (camera to director..if you are looking thru the director camera) go to top view (its at the left of the screen) use the option "select camera" (mid--bottom right) drag the camera where you want it either with the mouse or with an edit control the little handle at the front of the camera (looks like a stick with a ball on it) can be dragged (drug?) to point the camera where you want it... you can land the camera and it will go into the crevice until it hits the terrain..then you can raise it a bit. then... luck BTThread: Lens Flares in Bryce 4 | Forum: Bryce
The statement "lens flares can not be produced in Bryce" is not accurate...and it does not require the imagemap and mask routine.. however achieving it is not simple, nor is it as convincing as the effect you can get by just taking it into a third party image program... and doing this also increases render time... but if you are dead set to do it in Bryce, here is how to do it: 1> create a standard tube and apply a shiny metal material to it 2> create a back for the tube (this can either be done by just making the inner cylinder shorter than the outer, or by creating a new cylinder and putting it at the back) 3> create a "lens" by creating a large positive sphere, and one smaller negative sphere and one negative cube. Align the objects so that the small sphere cuts out the inside of the larger sphere and then put the cube in such a way that it will cut off the majority of the larger sphere...when you group these, you will have a "lens" like object. Apply a glass material and put this object in the front of the tube you made earlier. 4> Put the dolly camera inside this object that you created...you will now need to put a spotlight behind the camera (within the tube) and one in front of the camera (where ever the light is coming from) this will mimick a lens flare..and it does work, however since you are rendering from within an object and the camera is rendering its pov thru a glass lens, the render time will greatly increase depending on the scene you create. I suggest you play with this method if you are dead set in doing it straight out of bryce... good luck BT http://www.brycetech.com/
Thread: File size question... | Forum: Bryce
preview mode was probably a fairly close representation of time in this image... this mode has bryce ignore areas where there are no objects in the scene..so if you had like a lone boat on the water...itd pay the most attention to the water and the boat (not the sky)... in this image there is no area that is empty...so the time it took to render in fast preview mode is probably somewhere in the area of 80%-85% of the time btw, if you let Bryce actually antialias this then preview mode is pretty much useless because according to the book it will then make a full render (of course a full render from the start is always better in appearance shrug) as for each light squaring render time...ummm ...not sure about that..I do know that one light in a scene may render in 5 seconds and that 2 lights in the same scene does not make it take 25 seconds... its all transparency, bump, complexity of material (like procedural textures increase render time), and a partridge in a pear tree.... :) BT
Thread: Antialiasing question | Forum: Bryce
you know FT, itd be nice if that option was just an option click in the attributes (like hidden, positive, neg..etc)... for and object mayhap corel could do that for 5? Itd be nice to have some kinda visual representation that actually tells a person that aa is off for a selected object... BT
