odeathoflife, I also noticed that Zygote is mentioned as a partner. It makes me wonder if they had a had a hand in designing the new P6 meshes. Surely their name wouldn't be mentioned so prominently if it was just in reference to Dork and Posette;) Besides, the Jessie and James meshes appear so different from the other figure meshes in the past in the way they appear to be modeled. I wonder if e-frontier coughed up the $$$ to have Zygote design the new models? If you look at the Zygote site, it seems as though the medical field wasn't lucrative enough for them, so they've started branching back out into other things, again;) In all honesty, Dork and Posette were very good and useful at the time Poser 4 was released and with what Poser was capable of then. How would anyone know at the time how long it would be until Poser 5 was released, and how all of us would learn to get the most out of Poser 4 in the meantime;) Just my theory. I'll be very interested to see how things turn out. If I'm wrong, then that should be a compliment to whomever the artist(s) are who modeled the P6 meshes, they look very, very professional! -hOss69

M. Glant: The release/shipping date was the same as in the press release. Late Summer. Also, the Poser5 images in the gallery are stunning! hOss69

Since the server seems to have ground to a halt;) For those of you that can't access the site, yet, here is the system requirements, as I remember them;) Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP 500mhz Pentium (700mhz recommended) 128MB RAM (More recommended) 500MB Hard disk space As for upgrade prices, in addition to what Legume posted in Post#2: $349-Full version $209-Upgrade from Poser 1,2, or 3 There will also be Academic discounts. Last week when I predicted similar upgrade prices, people thought I was nuts;) Hope this helps those that can't get to the site, yet. hOss69

Spanki: You may be right, time will tell. I just don't think that CL will seriously charge $549 for Poser5, which seems to have everybody in a frenzy. I'm just going to see what happens. Patrick
Thread: Upgrade to Poser 5 - the price issue | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I posted this in another thread, but I think it should be here, also. One thing I think we all need to consider, is what an MSRP price means here in the USA. Every company sets an MSRP price for their products that are much higher than the actual retail price that you can realistically buy something for. It's psycholigical. If an MSRP is high, then when you see that the selling price is much lower, you feel like you've gotten a good deal. I remember not long ago seeing the MSRP of Poser4 in various places. It was nearly $400. We all know that realistically you would only have to pay $200-$220. In another thread, someone at the show who talked to someone at the CL booth said that they were told that Poser5 would be sold for $349. This is normal in the US, set the MSRP high ($549), actual retail is lower ($349), and everyone is happy about shelling out the bucks. I'm going to be bold here and make a prediction: Poser5 full version: $349-$399 Upgrade from Poser4: $199-$249 Upgrade from P4&ProPack: $99-$149 Time will tell how far off I am. Don't these prices seem more reasonable? Patrick

Thread: So where's the weekly update on Poser 5 that "Kupa" said he would give us? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

I almost forgot. In another thread, Steve said: "p.s. I'll have to start another thread soon with some images of the new P5 figures. I hope you'll be as excited as we are proud." That was July 3rd. Here's the thread:Thread: So where's the weekly update on Poser 5 that "Kupa" said he would give us? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
In Post #53 of the California Dreaming thread, Kupa said:
"Our staff here is swamped with all the details needed to build this project. I implore you to give us a little space and time. We are going to come back with some fantastic things... and perhaps in the next week or so, I may have a few more tidbits like those above to share."
So if I were a betting man, I'd place my bet that on July 18th or 19th, right before Siggraph, he'd give us another early peek at what CL has prepared for the press at the show;)
What do you guys think about that?

Thread: Something that needs to be said about the Poser 5 announcement | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I must admit that after reading the California Dreaming thread, I was a bit crosseyed to read this entire thread, so I apologize if this has already been memtioned;)
If I remember correctly, CL announced the ProPack at Siggraph 2000, expecting a Q4 2000 release. Well, it actually didn't go on sale until January 2001, but the announcement at Siggraph did seem to answer alot of questions we had and not dissimilar from the ones we have now about Poser5 (upgrade price, system requirements, etc.)
I doubt that Kupa would've shown us as much as he did if he wasn't planning on making an official announcement at Siggraph 2002 anyway. Like he stated in his California Dreming thread ,"he has to save some good stuff for the press," or something to that effect. I know that we are all excited, but we just have to wait a couple of weeks for Siggraph.
It's quite possible that Kupa would've given us more to munch on, but maybe CL took a long weekend because of the Independence Day holiday here in the States, and he won't be lurking in here until Monday. (He's got alot of catching up to do;)
Sales of Poser4 goods probably will slow down at first, but I somehow doubt that if CL announces a Q4 release (like last time), people will be able to go up to 6 months without buying anymore Poser goods. At some point, the old ," Well, they DID say Poser4 stuff will work with Poser5" rationale will creep into our minds as we convince ourselves that it's ok to buy that item in the Marketplace a month from now. (You know we've all done something like this;)
In two weeks when CL announces a price structure and we all know we don't have to mortgage our home to afford Poser5, I'm sure we'll all budget accordingly to buy other stuff;)
Just my thoughts on the last few days...

One tab that I'm curious to see is the "Content" tab. It's the only one we haven't seen, yet;) Perhaps there's a good reason for it;) Patrick
Thread: Trouble with textures | Forum: Vue
When I asked E-On to clarify what Vue will load from a .COB file, I was told that Vue4 won't load NURBS. Specifically, my question to them was to please clarify the trueSpace .cob format Vue would read, because on the Vue 4 specs page on e-on's site, it mentions that it will import and export trueSpace 2 .cob format, and since I have versions 4.3 and 5.1, I wanted to have an idea of what I could expect to load or not. E-on just suggested that if anythibng was modeled as a NURB in tS, to just export it as a 3DS file and Vue could load it that way. I have Vue 3.1, but haven't received Vue4, yet, so I was just planning ahead;) Hope this is helpful. hOss
