Thanks for the info, folks.
Anybody import PoserPro figures into new Autodesk Maya and use the native Poser rigging in the Maya environment as advertised? Is that really working?
(I know... start a new thread if you want an answer)

The body doesn't morph!?
Oh... well, never mind then.
In the end I was asked to locate some files I simply couldn't find.
Thanks for explaining its functionality, estherau.

Not sure what "ChanVis" is but the folder in which all the relevant files are located is definitely in the primary Runtime where the Poser app lives...
But Poser is looking for files with the wrong file names. That can't be good. The app certainly doesn't seem smart enough to make context-appropriate changes on the fly.
For the record, I'm still directing the program to the V4toV3 files by hand. Endless...

An interesting and informative discussion. Came in here looking for exactly this...
I'm on Poser 5. Frustrated. Thinking about upgrading to P7 and then started wondering why I wasn't considering DS. And of course had a ton of questions about what it can and can't do.
So it sounds like it has a reasonably advanced texturing system. You can do some kind of sub-surface skin type shading.
It poses and animates... I assume you can render out animations? Not that rendering animations even falls within what I'm interested in.
It exports so I can continue to use other apps in my workflow.
I might have to give this a try.

I was trying to get some answers in another thread about improved stability from Vue4 to Vue5, and while it sounded like it is improved, reading this makes me think it's still not nearly improved enough.
I am so sick of working on egg shells and playing chicken with the awesome, undocumented crash feature: "One more adjustment and THEN I'll save..." crash "AAARRGH!"
I'm thinking I may have to just bear down and learn how to render in Maya er something. The ease and plug-n-render, atmospheric perspective and whatnot of Vue keeps me wishing that it was more stable, but it's just really not...

Hey agiel, when you say "save them seperateley," you mean save them together, right? It sounds like it, and yeah, that's what works for me: save your whole scene in Poser and then load that from Vue (make sure the pz3 in in Poser's application file).

I found that the Poser document had to be in Poser's native program file. Well, that's not where I keep any of those files, right?
This may be a non-issue/solution for you, but once I started copying/dragging pz3s to the Poser file in my C drives Program Files, all that stuff came in pretty together -- texture mapped images and all that.
Thread: Exporting 3ds obj | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have a couple of thoughts, not sure if any of it is relevant.
Are you trying to import the animation? If so, you need to put the pz3 (or a copy) in your actual Poser folder (for me: c/Program Files/Curious Labs/Poser 5). When you import, it will ask if you want to bring it in as a single mesh or in parts?
Sometimes I export a figure as on obj to import to Vue (I'm using P5 and V4Pro), and I deselect the "Universe" box (I think that's what it's named... the top box) in Poser and then select just the things I want to export. But that's worked pretty much no problem.
Above you're showing an "unsupported jpeg" error, which I only get on certain jpegs -- no idea why -- but usually can be fixed by closing and restarting Vue (damn memory leak).
Those are some of the things I stumbled around trying to work out...

Looks great to me. Left hand side of image is dark, but in a good, not over-lit, kind of way. "Front" ponytail is well lit, "rear" ponytail is in sillhouette. On my screen it looks tastefully lit.

I think the pose I was using to compare was the problem. It was using too much Buttock, not enough Thigh.
Fig. E. Pretty obviously, this is not a problem. It's something I might personally still mess around with, trying to "bubblify" some more, but that's strictly in the realm of personal preference now.
Fig. F, a typical pose for my project. Pretty fantastic.
