For the Parent part, I sugguess you use a invisible box as a null object and parent the hip and the hand to that box. When you need movement with both hip and hand, key frame that box.

When using IK in animation, don't just make key frame for that foot or hand, make a full body key frame of that figure. A Full body key frame will give the figure fix pose even you turn off the IK.

When you make keyframe, make a hold body keyframe. This way will keep arms and legs joins in position when you disable/enable IK.

I do agree with Magalodon in some points. If you don't like it. DON'T BUY IT!!! There are always alternative. Well, I will go to art store and get some watercolors and hotpress boards again. to jimevans 2000: computers and softwears are not Art. They are Tools.
