Thread: Edge bumps after render, how to get rid of them? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hello, here are a few things I'm seeing.....
Firstly, scale and location. Your model appears to be 100 times Poser scale and it's center is located far from the center of your 3D universe. Now, 100 times Poser scale is OK, if you know this and you prefer working at this scale, ( I work at 10 times Poser scale), however, with the object being so far off center, you're just setting yourself up for extra "trickiness" when it comes time to use the model in a practical sense.
So, in Sketchup, locate the center of it's 3D universe and begin your model or reference from that point. Next, you'll need to understand the scale of your source application (modeler) and your target application (Poser) - this is very important for architecture.
Now, the edges... For hard surface modeling it's very important to bevel your edges to create fillets or chamfers.
In the 3D universe a single edge is infinitely sharp, in the real world this is physically impossible and in the rendering universe it creates crap-tastic renders when you apply smoothing. To deal with this you need to bevel your edges. Here's a primer on Fillets and Chamfers: webservices.alibre.com/OnlineTutorials/Lessons/Learning_Modules/FilletsChamfers/Fillet_and_Chamfer_Primer.htm
I think there are some Sketchup plugins for this, but, you may have to go looking for them.
Anywho, hard surface modeling can be a lot of fun and there are PLENTY of tutorials out there to help you.
One last thing, if you're serious about this, consider Wings3D - it's very powerful and it can really help you develop good 3D discipline.

Make sure that whatever object or body part the hair is colliding with, also has collisions selected.as well - Check the "Properties Tab" for that item or part.

Thread: I think I need to relearn Poser. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Just a quick "Heads up"
Head over to Content Paradise and download Demension3D's free update for his Poser 8 Render Control Panel as well as his free "XLC - eXtended Light Control" ( if you haven't already :) - These are DAMN useful.

Poser is fun. That's why I keep using it.... It's fun. When Poser stops being fun, then you may have forgotten why you got into Poser in the first place. When it ain't fun no more, simply step back, take a deep breath and then get back to having fun.... it's no more complicated than that.

Thread: What is EASIEST architectural modeling software for Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Sketchup Free and Pro are quite good and have a very "free flowing" build style. The Pro is $500.00 and the Free version has a proprietary file format -( a quick google search and I found a few "obj" exporter plugins). - excellent for architecture
Wings3D sorta looks like a toy but underneath is a very powerful modeler that promotes good 3D discipline. There are a number of plugins available including one that allows you to load in vector graphics and covert them to 3D objects - excellent for architecture and box-modeling
Silo 2 is my modeler of choice - when using Silo I feel very "connected" to what I'm working on. However, development has dwindled and that can be discouraging. Good for architecture and excellent for character creation.

Thread: importing .obj to poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Try this, open the scene in Poser and then open up the "Grouping Tool". If the grouping tool lists the separate poly-surfaces, the you can use the Grouping Tool's "Create Prop" button to create a copy of each object or just the ones you want to move ( hopefully including the materials as well).
come back
Thread: Transparent background poser pro 2010 motion blur avi ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Are you saving out as an animation?, if so, then you will have these issues.
To get the best results you'll need to export each frame as an individual file and then import them as a sequence (with pre-multiplied alpha) into After Effects.
With pre-multiplied alpha, you may have dark edges, if so check out this tutorial on how to deal with that within Photoshop/After Effects: http://www.digitalartform.com/archives/2005/10/compositing_pre.html
good luck

Wow.
Ya know, if those fools in the 60's didn't add Gamma Correction to or TVs to make generated light look more like reflected light - we here, in Poser-Land, would be so much happier....
The point of CG is that it allows you to do whatever you want, however, if what you want requires photo-realism, then the laws of physics and mathematics are going to be rather demanding.
There are ONLY two rules of CG:
Figure out how it works and figure out how to fake it.
If it looks good, it IS good.

Hey mon
Check out the free application called Handbrake - It's designed specifically for creating video that can be uploaded to Youtube or Vimeo etc.
Works on Windows, Mac and Linux
( you need .NET Framework on Windows XP)
good luck
Thread: Transparent background for movie renders (when using an image sequence)? P8 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
In the Poser render settings, be sure to select "Black" in the Render Over option. Then save as PNG

Hey mon, I came across a great video that explains gamma correction for us beginners
check here:
www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php
Working in Linear gamma really is the key to great looking graphics both in Poser and image editing programs
Also, if you want to get some info on compositing, check out 3D Ninja's "Basic Tutorial, parts 1 and 2 over here: (scroll down)
Although, many of the things mentioned can't be done in Poser 6, you might find the information quite useful

I've been pursuing the same thing for a while, The one website that gave me the best reference is no longer free - www.visiblebody.com/start - There is, however, a free trial - might be worth a look
After a while, going by still images became very limiting.
good luck
Thread: O.T. James Cameron's "Avatar" | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Here's what I like about this trailer..... James Cameron shows that effective camera work trumps CRAPPY hand-held camera work every damn time.
Here's to the end of trying to induce drama by shaking the camera.....
