That is truly an INCREDIBLE castle, makes me just want to throw up my hands and give up on Bryce. I've had all those issues with rendering too, sheesh it drove me crazy. And yes the ram helps immensely, I recently upgraded another 512mb's and its made a world of difference. One little bit of advice, I think you should change the texture on the statues directly at the gate to a stone. Just the lion/type ones. And is your POV going to be what it is now or pointing down the center of all your poser figures?

Wow I love the house you mentioned that was for sale, such a strange combination of architecture, it almost has a swiss chalet feel with rock. That is some beautiful country!

As someone that is into the graphical aspect of computing I HIGHLY suggest that you invest in a high end graphics card!! Heheh and no an onboard card wouldn't suffice :)

My husband and I have built all our PC's (we have 8) for less then $800, not counting the monitor of course.
I also would not suggest Seagate, they are iffy. Get a Western Digital.
And yes your priciest item will be your graphics card. ATI's are good, but NOT if you are a gamer.

Thread: I'm turning to the dark side ... | Forum: Bryce
/cry one of mine he commented on! Haha it's ok, I know mine aren't excellent by any means, they are just getting better with each upload and this last one was all about lighting. Gothika is only my 7th image ever created in Bryce so I'm learning. I post comments and ratings, but only on the ones that I truly like, or on the people that are posting their first images to give them hope.

I also was surprised that just the "political" part of the picture garnered so many votes. Technically I thought the water could have been much better done. But I'm no expert on abstract art so I'm hardly the person to pass judgement. Maybe that's exactly how it was supposed to look /shrug.
As for your comment, I don't think a political minded person should have been insulted, after all what is politics if not arguementative.

Thread: Speed challenge...WIP | Forum: Bryce
I think the speed effects are great! If I were you I would take the color out of the moon (planet) and make it more greyish. Then I would enlarge the ship and place it more in the distance. Maybe give it a metallic look (shine) with red as it's primary color. Thereby making it the only colorful part of your scene and directing focus towards it. You wouldn't need to redo your whole scene either, Just select everything except the planet and the sky, then view from top, move away from camera and enlarge. Good job so far!!

Ok now I would lower the terrains, and add some spheres with a cloud texture, right now they look like mounds of water (maybe add some erosion?) I dunno I feel stupid even trying to give advice being such a newbie myself. That really sucks about your HD loss.
Thread: exporting in .obj format | Forum: Bryce
Yea the FAQ's explain that you can't, but they don't explain how to export the .obp's. Also it hurts my eyes to look at those FAQ's, who's brilliant idea was it to do it in yellow?
Thread: Constructively criticism or not? (inspired by DC's message in this forum) | Forum: Bryce
I understand exactly what Whanfried is saying. I must say that when I posted one of my first pictures here, it was really, really bad (i'm sure I'm not much past the bad part yet, but at least I'm more confident) and some troll came and posted that it was the "worst render evah!!" Well I checked his gallery and this troll had never created any renders that I could see. But still to some degree he discouraged me.
Wahnfried sent me a personal IM and gave me some constructive criticism and also some hope for my future.
I also understand what he means about the WIP's because I also thought EXACTLY the same thing when I posted one of mine for some lighting help here. I thought, hmmm well if I get help like that on it, won't it take away the fact that I created it, and make it a joint effort and something to be less proud of?
BUT I also understand that I have a LOT of learning to do and if I can get technical help now, then in the future I will be that much better on the images I do create solo.
AND it's true, its not the technical aspect of Bryce that is artistic, it's the vision you have!
Anyway, Wahnfried is one of my favorite artists here, his work is incredible and immaculate and he's welcome to critique any of my work at any time, as are most of you here. What I don't appreciate is someone coming on that has never had the guts to post any pictures and rip apart mine.

Thread: WIP Speed Challenge | Forum: Bryce
The back wake looks great, but the sphere in front is wrong (as you already know :) I would just create some surf type terrains real close to the body of the ship, nothing too far in front of it. You might want to study an actual boat wake, that may give you a better idea. Also a wake from behind would come out in a triangle type shape, not two straight lines.

Makes me want Rhino now too. I don't know anything about the book ship, but this one looks awesome. Great detail. I can't wait to see it textured!
Thread: WIP=lighting help please! | Forum: Bryce
I'm fairly comfortable modifying textures, but maybe one of you can tell me exactly which setting to change on the glass. I don't want to turn the reflection down TOO much because then you wouldn't be able to see the glass, would you? And I chose a glass that had low reflection to begin with, but obviously that wasn't the case, lol.
