Thread: Need some suggestions for my first exhibition | Forum: Photography
Hello,
I can understand what our going through, my first (and only to date) exhibition was a nightmare in some ways but also very liberating.Â
I think that it is important that with such an opportunity that you do everything to the highest standard that you can afford. It would be better to submit far less than your maximum prints rather than detract from your excellent work with lower quality printing and mounting. In the end quality always counts and first impressions are important.
I found that 10x8 or 12x8 images worked well although I did have a few much larger and some smaller, I find that print size really depends on the image. Some are just better or work better as an image at different sizes.
As to framing, I mounted and framed my prints with art card and the results were not only cheaper than frames but looked good and were consistent. You can probably have that done professionally without to much additional expense but try one first and see how you feel about it. After all you need to be happy with the results.
When I priced my prints I costed the raw materials (printing, framing and my own preparation time at a reasonable rate) and then added what I felt was a fare percentage for profit.
I hope this has been of some help and I wish you the very best!

I use flourescent energy saving bulbs at home and I find that I get much better results if I set my colour balance to tungsten.
Thread: Simon Says.... Show me your camera bag (and what's in it) | Forum: Photography
OK Radlafx here goes,
The bag itself is a LowePro Slingshot 200AW although I could probably do with the 300AW really.
EOS 350D and powergrip, Canon f1.8 50mm, Sigma EX f1.4 30mm, Sigma EX f4-5.6 10-20mm, Sigma DC f3.5-6.3 18-200mm, Tokina f2.8 100mm macro, set of three extension tubes.
Spare batteries and cards, Jobo GigaONE (40 GB version) and a 12inch Lastolite reflector, Canon cable release and infra red remote release.
Cleaning kit made up of Speckgragger, lens cloth, blower and lens cleaning pen.
The small black Tamrac pouch on the upper left side contains my seven most used Cokin filters (neutral grads and polarisers). There is also a bean bag that screws to the base of my camera and a spirit level that slots into the cameras hotshoe mount.
Finally there are my spotting binoculars and spare hat and filter wrench, cuddlie frog and small cuddlie bird (added by my wife Sarah in case I get lonely).
Thats my standard kit.  The weight isn't to bad (helps keep me fit) and the bag itself is comfortable and well worth the look.
After twelve years behind the lens I've finally got a kit I'm happy with.

Always carry a spare hat, lost one to the wind once and had sun stroke by the time I got home.Â
The two small cuddlie toys were added by my wife so I would not be lonely on long shoots.
