Silke, it might help you to know that, with XL, you can do your initial searching for figures and minimize the window, then search for your poses and minimize it, then do a search through props and minimize it, whatever you use the most, and all can be minimized to the task bar at the same time and then called up whenever needed. I work faster than ever now because I don't have to stop and search for things individually....I just run a search for whatever runtime I plan to use, the different parts of that runtime that will be needed, and then begin working.
I finally got the P8 content library to work by installing on a new computer, and the hitch was as I thought from the very beginning. Because I suspected it to be a security or firewall issue, I did not install my security software until I installed P8, and almost immediately Windows firewall warned that it blocked Poser 8. Because I could get "under the problem" this time, was able to get it released, and it installed normally. This was using IE7 with no update to flash, no tampering with the settings, on a dual core Vista with 8 gigs of ram. It was merely a Windows firewall issue, but is not easily dealt with once it slips past the initial installation warning.
After having seen the P8 content library, I went right back to using XL. Someone commented they were having a hard time with certain files not showing....I found that p3DO Pro version fixes missing files, so that it can populate the XL Library correctly. Hope this helps.

Hi LL ... here we are again....haha. Okay, I'm going to post some information here that might help the other 10% of the folks who are having problems. Please note, I have not tried this. However, it was posted on the DAZ forum by someone who did, and it fixed the problem. So...having said that, here goes. I'll put this in quotes below:
"...I use Windows XP SP3, still, and had the blank library tab. The solution for me was to go to the Microsoft site and download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008. After the reboot, my library tab was the fine.
One minor annoyance, though. Although my D|S 3 still worked fine afterwards, when I installed the next D|S 3 update - which forcibly reinstalls Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 - after my next system boot, the Poser 8 library had gone blank again. Running the 'repair' option from the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 uninstaller and rebooting then got the Poser 8 library working again (and the D|S 3 still worked). So it appears that a D|S install - most likely the forced Visual C++ 2005 install within that even when you don't need it - is messing with the Visual C++ 2008 install, which in turn is bringing the Poser 8 library problem again.
So, anyway, for XP users, downloading and installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 is worth a try as it fixed the Poser 8 blank library problem for me. But if it does, be aware that if you are also a D|S user and do a D|S install, you may then need to reinstall/repair the Visual C++ 2008 and reboot afterwards.... " (end of quote)
Now, I happen to be a DAZ Studio 3 Advanced user, so this could quite possibly be an issue on my computer. However, I use DS3 for some of my animations, and for the first time in a long time, everything is working, plug-ins, the whole bit, so I can't risk messing it all up. But, if this information can help anyone, there it is. Good luck everyone!
Good hearing from you LL, hang in there!

deni67, all of my runtimes are organized on main drive and it worked for me, was up and running in minutes....however may be different when dealing with external drives. Only someone set up that way could answer that for you. Dizzi is right, just email the vendor and they might be able to help you out. Good luck with it !

deni67, that's what it's supposed to say. When it says "kill the application", it's just letting you know that it's shutting down and anything you have on the screen won't be saved if you have not already saved it. Once it shuts down, then P8 should recognize your runtimes once you start Poser 8 up again, and then start your XL Library script. Then you can use XL Library to browse your runtimes by clicking on the yellow magnifying glass search icon....worked for me and for others.

Well, there you go...you've even done that, so that answered that question. Perhaps I've been choosing the wrong day to stand on my head? haha....
So far XL Library has been working fine for loading content....as you can see from image on previous page, Ryan loaded fully clothed with no problem, and I was able to access lights through XL as well. Before I got XL, I was loading up scenes in other versions of Poser, saving as a scene, and then going into Poser 8 and re-opening. It works, but you don't have the benefit of some of the new P8 content. Might buy you a little time while waiting for more news.

Dirtylooks....I usually come on here kind of late so just getting your message. The initial install screen did appear as if it was going to ask for my Pro number, but once I entered the P8 number, it seemed to be satisfied and went on with the installation....perhaps since Pro was on my system. The other five or six times I've uninstalled and then re-installed, it just picks up where it left off, as if my serial is already in the registry or somewhere. That gives me the feeling that it's holding on to information from the very first install, and won't give it up....and perhaps no matter how much I change the security settings, reboot, reconfigure, and stand on my head only on Tuesdays while it's raining (haha), there may be something from the initial install that is ignoring the new configuration and permissions.....anyway, it's just the conclusion I've drawn because I can't think of anything else it could be.

Sorry you are also having problems. Decided I would back off from it this evening and just play a few online games and relax. Sometimes I can get a fresh perspective after some rest.
If all else fails, some have had success using XL Library from CP, go here if interested:

...and a similar XA product was released this week, go here for info and PDF download:

Since I'm not a content creator, just a hobbyist, this works fine for me, at least for now. Hang in there . . .

Hi LL....sounds like you've gotten to know your laptop real well, as I have my Gateway desktop this week. Thankfully I have a backup laptop for emergencies, but I don't tinker with it for that reason. And yes, caution is a good idea with video driver updates. Make sure you know which key to press in order to go into safe mode should you ever have a mess on your hands....I had to run to the Gateway website by way of laptop to find that seldom used information. I'm not one to give up on things easily so I was determined to at least give it a fair try, but it's getting to the point where it can wear you out...and like you mentioned, there are real like things like grocery runs and errands, and work.
When this is all behind us and we've had a little rest, would love to learn something about what you do with lighting....or point me in the right direction to learn. I get frustrated....have fairly good ideas for composing pictures, but the lighting is always either poor to down right bad because I don't know how to use all the advanced features.....the things that make glass look like glass, and well-placed dim lights. I know it's all a matter of dials in the right place, so I'm not afraid to try it. Sometimes I hit a snag with terms that are used....because they are not yet familiar.
Glad to see you online again....I was starting to get a little concerned, if maybe you had your system fail to restart or something. And you're right, we have XL to fall back on, and perhaps the companion program that just came out may be helpful as well. Better to have something working, than the whole thing to go "scrambled eggs". This stuff could give you a twitch after awhile...hahaha.....

Glad it worked for you. Hope it was successful for LL. I tried all of the steps above, still not working. The only thing that I could add that might help others is, for years I've kept automatic updates fully on WinXP, but upon visiting the update site and choosing Custom rather than the recommended default Express, there were several necessary updates that had not been applied. All of that is resolved now. The NVIDIA driver update caused my monitor to go blank upon reboot, so had to reboot in safe mode, restore to previous, and start over, eliminating the video update. I went through all the steps of uninstalling Flash, and reinstalling version 10 in both IE8 and Firefox. I picked through and found the other files, folders and walked through all the steps. Not much else I can do.
LL , again, hope it works for you....you've surely been working hard on this. By the way, I googled for info about lost Windows password recovery....and there are ways to do it....but, I didn't want to see you go through what I did with the video driver, so didn't post any links. Apparently it is possible to get it, but it involves creating a boot disc, and you'd run the risk of it maybe working, or maybe not. You'd need to do a full backup of your files before trying something like that. It doesn't seem one could get a P8 fix to work without rebooting...it's required in several of the steps above....but hope somehow that you can.

Hey LL, wanted to post this for when you come on, in case you're interested. Someone over in the XL thread said there was a program at CP by Dimension3D called XA - eXtended Access for Poser 8, at this link: http://www.contentparadise.com/productDetails.aspx?id=11191
There's a PDF and ReadMe near the bottom, under Details.
