I suggest you upgrade to version 2.03b, which fixes a lot of bugs that appeared in the a version. You can download it here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=127736 It's not bugless either, but much stabler! Have fun!

Thread: Flame Won't Render | Forum: Fractals
As far as I know, it doesn't really matter how powerful your GFX card is, and people have made flames with more modest PCs than yours. This sounds like a bug to me...how much memory do you have on your computer? Which version of Apo are you using?

Ulli said it, thanks everyone! I've had fun with each and every tweak fest, it's always very fascinating to see how people bring their own perspective into each competition theme. Aliaszoe and Ulli deserve their prizes, that's for sure, but I also enjoyed the other entries quite a bit! See you all on the next tweakfest!

Thread: The need for speed! | Forum: Fractals
Am I missing something here guys? I'm using the current version of Apo Z, and although the rendering speed has increased it's still way slower than what you have, Andrew. A standard 1024x768 flame takes about 20 minutes, which in itself is an impressive increase compared to the 30+ minutes with the earlier Apo versions, but less than two mins...that's really insane!

Here's some random thoughts on the matter from my deteriorated brains..... For what it's worth, I found the numeric response refreshing. At first I had no clue who it was or what it all was about, but after reading the above posts I had a good laff. I think I understand Matt's behaviour quite well, it's good to see someone break the mold every now and then, so to speak. And no, I don't LIKE the obviously provocative comment by him quoted in the above posts, but I would not have been insulted by it either. I personally have not seen the obscene feedback he has given, but I'm guessing it must have at least partially originated from his frustration at the strict behaviour rules here at the community, or rather, the certain monotonousness (read: political correctness, lack of negativity and/or constructiveness) in the feedback he'd got. Then again, what do I know, I don't know the guy. Anyway, I don't know where exactly the line of unacceptable behaviour lies here, and I don't know how many unfriendly messages Matt sent - and for how long - but in general forums tend to kick people out only if they are 'trolling', in other words, their only reason for posting is to try and f*k up the conversations, relations and whatnot taking place within the community. For some reason I somehow find it difficult to believe Matt did that, and to me it seems this was just a case of overreacting on both sides. Yet again, I don't know the details of the incident at all... Don't get me wrong, I like this community a lot, and I certainly don't mind positive feedback, but sometimes it seems to me that people refrain from speaking their true opinion about the fractals appearing in the gallery. There are probably many reasons for that, but I think a fear of insulting the artist and perhaps being banned from Rosity does have an effect on what people write. Of course 'silence is golden' in many cases, but too much silence kills the conversation. I also find it quite strange that even though all the artists here are knowingly bringing their work before a large number of people they have never even heard of, some take the feedback they get as if it came from the mouths of their closest personal friends. If I went to an art gallery and put my images on display, I certainly would have to be prepared to get all sorts of comments from the visitors. I would have to endure all kinds of crappy reviews and even some straightforward insults, but that's just how things are, want it or not. If you can't take criticism, even harsh, don't bring your work out in the public. Besides, what harm can a stranger's bark do to you? Farts in the wind I say. There's also a vague chance of learning something from the feedback, a chance to see your own work from an entirely different viewpoint. If there's any 'meat' in a critical comment, I try and re-evaluate my work from that viewpoint. If not, the message will only serve for a quick dose of entertainment if even that. I only wish I would get some criticism some day, I know the sht I post has lots of room for improvement... Anyway, have a nice weekend everyone. -Petri

I second the above statements profoundly :D Cheers for choosing one of my flames, I'm honoured and happy to see it among the works of some of the best fractalists here!
Thread: Themed Challenge closed...Time to vote :D | Forum: Fractals
This contest is sooooo unfair, I'd give my vote to at least five of the works if I absolutely had to choose, but all of them are so good they deserve attention, definitely!!

Thread: To Comment..or Not To Comment | Forum: Fractals
Interesting topic! :D Here's my 2 cents: I make fractals mainly for myself, and I enjoy it greatly. I also find many of the works appearing here very inspiring, interesting, enjoyable etc. etc., and if I happen to have a spare minute or two, I'll leave comments to show my appreciation of the image in question. I try to be as objective as possible, ignoring "external" factors such as who's the author of the image and how many comments he/she has left on my works so far. Or, to be completely honest, I don't give a rat's ass about anything else than the picture itself when deciding whether I should comment or not. Like many others, I also think it's completely pointless to view and comment images just because you like the person who has posted them, or have received support from him/her. It's the art itself that should arouse comments, not friendship or 'returning the favour'. That, of course, doesn't at all mean I don't appreciate the friendships I've made here, but you know what I mean :D I often say "please comment if you find this image bland/yucky/great/interesting etc.", because I'm interested in what kind of reactions and thoughts my works may arouse in the viewers. Although it's always somewhat nice to get a bunch of "great work" comments, I appreciate one well thought out comment more, be it negative, neutral or positive. Then again, as is the case with me too, people seldom have the time to give serious consideration on any of the works they view. Often I have only time for a quick ten-word comment, or no time to comment at all, but that doesn't mean I don't like the picture! All in all, I think Linda's point is very important and should be considered by every "comment junkie". Of course it's none of my business to say what one should do or not, but I know I value 'genuine' feedback over back-patting. It's just crazy to think that someone feels a pressure to comment on my works just because I've commented on theirs. Anyway, keep your artistic energies flowing and the art coming folks, I appreciate it more than the amount of my comments may indicate ;D PS. Deagol, I don't think you should've deleted that piece of art just because there were only 3 comments. If you yourself like it, keep it on display no matter what, unless your motivation comes from getting many comments only. Besides, 50 viewings tells me it did catch the eye of many gallery visitors -- including mine!
Thread: You know you've been doing this too much when...;) | Forum: Fractals
Fun thread! ...you start scheduling your days according to rendering times! (hmm, four hours left, what can I do before I start a new render...?)
...you notice you've just sat two hours in front of the computer doing nothing except stare at the screen, waiting for the rendering process to finish!
