They were thinking of you the "money pouch" when they put together the demo. The customer is the "money pouch." And what Softimage (and other companies who provide demos) were thinking is "We have a great product. Let's give folks a chance to try it out so they'll know exactly what they're getting" as opposed to "Let's hype this thing up so people will buy it sight unseen. Once we have their money, then we'll worry about making it work right."

Been looking at the "foundation" version of Softimage XSI. It's ~$500, less than I have in poser versions... (And they have a demo version, they don't ask you to buy it before you try it. Now that's customer service.)

If you figure the price of (for example) P4, the PP upgrade, then P5 upgrade, then P6 "upgrade," this is not a cheap piece of software. My idea of "great custumer help" would have been for them to simply post the update on the regular CL website and not limiting the download attempts to start with. Of course, then they might not have had as many people "enjoying" all the CP advertising.

Just got an IM from clsteve. I'd asked him about this, and he said only the content updates would be via CP, the SRs would be on the "CL.com" web site.

I imagine that they did not advertise it as defective, because they didnt believe it was defective. What's the difference between a used car salesman and a software salesman? The used car salesman knows when he's lying...

So yp6 will you change your handle to yp7 when Poser 7 comes out?

In all seriousness, probably not. I was a CL beta tester early adopter for P5. For some silly reason, I expected CL to make more effort with P6 after the P5 release, so decided to give it another chance and get the good price but return it if dissatisfied with the feedback from various sources.

I like poser, it's a neat program that does a lot for the $$$, but I will not support the way CL does business.

I'll probably ignore P7.

Wise? I'm not sure.... There comes a time when the frustration with a company exceeds the satisfaction with their product. Personally, I've reached that point with CL. I expect a glitch here and there in software, it's just the nature of the beast. How CL has handled (or not) those problems is the reason they will see no more of my $$$ until/unless they make a major turn-around.

At the top of each group is an ASF file. You'll need that and the AMC.

Since it's a "memory bug" CL could have forgot about it... At least until they need more sales... Well, just trying to be funny... I've received my P6 box last week and since then it's been laying on my desk: I don't want to even install it before the issue is resolved... Wise decision, did the same. I'll probably return it this week and use the $$$ for a gig CF card for the camera.

So it is CL's responsibility to pay for the additional expense caused by your local phone infrastructure? It's CL responsibility to fix their own mistakes and not to sell broken products.

The update is on it's way, we should see it soon and of course it will have the a mem bug fix in it..... "Soon" on what scale? On an evolutionary scale, humans are pretty recent. >:) I bet it'll be here by June, but reserve the right to say June of what year.

If it comes to that - I paid for a CD - why can't you send me the content on a CD at your cost! That would make sense. Many of us have complained in the forums about the updates via CP. CL hasn't changed it yet, so I doubt they will now. Good luck!

Considered going with a merchant account besides paypal? There are lots of alternatives out there...

As for using photo based textures - that's just part of the 3D process. I'd call it prework. In some cases, I think of the mesh as simply the "canvas" for a high-end texture. SteffyZZ's "Yuma" is a pretty convincing argument for that.
