For a more effective bump and highlight, that is if you have photoshop or something, is to convert a copy of 'land 43' to a gray scale and adjust contrasts. The bump channel especially, looks only at gray scale data. It will give you more defined bumps and highlites. Mark

Forgot to mention the resolution of the texturemaps. They should be high enough res to have the minimum pixel or dpi count at their maximum magnification in the image ie. if the shader is close to the camera and effectively magnified 300%, then the texture map should be at least 72x3 or 216 pixel per inch in the original texture map file. Another way is to create multiple 'planes' instead of using the infinite plane; you can tile on those. Also, getting a camera too close to the plane will create issues. The first tree druid image I posted used an infinite plane with a t-map without any of the pixelation issues you encountered because the camera was further away. BTW, there are some great grass t-maps on the CD. Mark

Thanks for your responses, and thanks Clint for testing. This shader is now available in the Carrara Free Stuff section. Carrara is truly cross platform. How cool! Mark
Thread: Leaf Count for Tree Druid/Carrara plugin | Forum: Carrara
Hello Marcus, Tree Druid has an on-line manual at www.zenstar.com I can't speak for the stand alone version of Tree Druid as I have the Carrara Plug-in version. In the plug-in version there are separate shaders for the trunk, branches, boughs and leaves, although. I'd thinks that there is a similar function from the stand alone. Sorry that I'm not a little more helpful on this one. Mark
Thread: Carrara and Photoshop filters | Forum: Carrara
Yep, they are. The use would definatly be as a post render filter. Say, for example, you wanted to animate with the 'Mosaic Tiling' feature. The plug in feature would allow you to do it as a no-brainer v.s. painful frame by frame. Mark

Y'know, the out of the box installation of Carrara had that feature in preferences. However, I'm working with the updated one (1.01) and can no longer locate the plug-in feature. Hmmmmmm, I rembmer trying to set it up with RD 5.5 and not having any luck with it. I wonder if it's been eliminated as a feature? Mark

If you wanted you could turn this into a 'mood' peice. Turn down the ambiant light, put a orange/yellow bulb in the fire and maybe enable a 'light sphere' on the bulb light. Stuff like that; just a thought. :) Mark
Thread: Leaf Count for Tree Druid/Carrara plugin | Forum: Carrara
It was rendered in Bryce but....the tree was created and textured with Carrara. If I post another one, it will be a complete Carrara deal. Mark
Thread: One more Tree Druid question | Forum: Carrara
I've been 'investigating' (read playing) with TD today and found that with scaling different components I can fill out a tree to my hearts content. Especially, since you can create your own leaf transparancy maps, you can create multiple leaves where there is only one leaf placement. Just trying to make the decision even harder. How am I doing? BTW, check out the online manual at www.zenstar.com for a more complete description of the capabilities. It's pretty thorough. The thing that I really like about the plug in version is that there is no importing of obj files so the shading goes faster. Mark
Thread: One more Tree Druid question | Forum: Carrara
After reading the FAQ that Clint posted, I beleive that the full version controls leaf densities better than the plug-in version. Mark
