Thread: More Boolean frustration | Forum: Carrara
This works in RayDream and I assume it does in Carrara as well. Before doing a boolean on a spline object, make sure surface fidelity is set as high as possible and then either convert to a mesh form object again with maximum fidelity with the Edit in another modeler option OR export to a DXF and re-import. I've had success with each technique in increasing the resolution before the boolean execution.

>What sort of limitations should I expect so I can save >myself frustration of trying to do what it won't do? In addition to the capabilities mentioned above these are my own complaints about RayDream that are adressed in Carrara. These are more annoyances than problems. - RayDream has a limited, quantum zoom: 2/1, 4/1, 8/1 etc. The maximum zoom of 32/1 often makes parts of the model invisible. - The RayDream reference camera is not easily changed to view at difference angles. The camera gizmo in Carrara is the one GUI control from Poser I really like. - In the free form modeller, a tool I use a lot, you can only set values numerically in the crossection drawing plane. In the other planes you can read the values but you need to move the point with the mouse. Willf- The Disney Nautilus, designed by Harper Goff, has a very strong cult following around the world. Many folk have scratch built display and radio-controlled versions. Pat Regan has built a 1/10 scale version that he can sit in (see the link). My Store - My Gallery - My Freebies - My Web Site

Eric's advice to give RayDream a try is good. I started with the original RayDream and use 5.5 for nearly all my modeling work. I've never been able to get into Carrara. May version 3 will hook me. Now I understand why P3DO 1.6 is late. Not enough wine! Fill that man's glasses!

I'm thinking about doing something with the Hunley model, which is still very much in work.

Nice, original idea. I've done a lot of archaeology as a volunteer. Take a look at my web site for a few photos from some of those projects. My Store - My Gallery - My Freebies - My Web Site

Thread: P5 Parameter/property dials - stupid questioin | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
When I first started Poser 5 the document window in the Pose Room was missing. I tried a number a ways to find it before I clicked Start in Factory State in the preferences dialog. The next time I started Poser the document window appeared and it stayed after I restored the setting to Use Previous state. Give that a try.

Thread: How Did Install Go of Your New Poser 5? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I had no problems with a new full install next to my Poser 4 installation on my applications drive F:. On-line registration was painless and quick - just a couple of seconds not including my typing. The only clear problem I had was no document window in the Pose Room. I chose Start in factory state and restarted Poser and the window appeared. It stayed visible even after changing preferences back to start in preferred state. It does appear to slow down when I open the Library tab, with the cursor staying as an houglass even while it appears to be active. I also suspect there are some problems with several applications running but I haven't done enough to test this. Everything I've tried to do in Poser works, although this has not been any exhaustive stuff. XP, 1.8GHz, 512 MB, 1600x1200 screen

Thread: A few words about the Poser 5 registration/installation procedure | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The installer generates a unique Challenge Code that > requires an equally unique Response Code to unlock. Anthony, is this a one-time response or must I enter it each time I start Poser? Michael

Thread: Looking for translator from rds any other format | Forum: Carrara
One thing to keep in mind is the when RDS exports I've found it creates HUGE files, ten or more times as large as the original. All the efficiencies of master objects are lost and the mathematical definitions of Free Form objects is gone when these are converted to meshes.

Thread: Making a Poser Character From Scratch Tutorial Request | Forum: Carrara
inability to import an image as a reference... I use CorelDraw in conjunction with the Free Form modeller to get around this limitation in RDS. I import the drawing in CorelDraw and then build cross-section templates, extrusion paths and envelopes as bezier curves. I export them individually as AI objects and then import them in RDS. When assembling complex separate parts I often take a screen snapshot in RDS and import that in CorelDraw for comparison. It's a sometimes tedious iterative process, but it works.

Thanks for filling us in. I have a question. The Eovia description includes this: "NURBS Modeling (Amapi 3D)". Above you say "but the package includes Amapi 5, which has bevelling, chamfering...". Does C2 include NURBS or do you have to use the included Amapi for that?
