BTW- just my 2 cents... "x2000 - If you havent noticed this is a graphics web site and not Yahoo. If you need places to talk about politics or any other things I would suggest some of the open forums on the net." "Art cannot be created in a vacuum. An essential part of the creative process is the recognition of the impact of worldly events on the human condition, and realising its means of expression." {Me, 2002} ;]

I agree. How about "Community Concerns". Start with a clean slate, and all that, with a definite set of guidelines right from the beginning. True, many already know most of them- the "unwritten rules"- but it doesn't hurt to "writ" them, for the newcomers. For instance, if a dispute comes up, remember to take on the argument, not the member. Try to come up with alternatives or solutions, not just vent. Things that most people know, but made plain for those who may not. I don't think this is "just a store", and say so because otherwise it implies certain things on the part of the people who work here. I'm sure that is not the intent. All it will take, I believe, is for the concerned members to show a willingness to take on a little responsibility as a whole. If you have a problem, first contact the person directly, and try to work it out. Give someone the benefit of the doubt before accusing or making incendiary statements. Treat others the way you want them to treat you. That sort of thing. I think this can be an opportunity, not a problem. That's my opinion.

I like Varian's idea, too! The only reason I said "Artists'" instead of "Art" development is that I wanted to emphasise the focus on the artist and their skills, as opposed to a focus on the production of art. Most of the other forums focus on a program or technique first (hence the title) and the artist as a result. Does that make sense? I sort of see it as "perceptive/ expressive/ creative" skills applicable to any media as opposed to "usage" skills. My 2c. 8)

Thanks, Kieraw! Another thought I had- it wouldn't hurt to touch on some of the "professional" basics, as well. How can I make a gallery that works as a "showreel"? Is my banner/page/ad good, or lacking in effectiveness? How can I get the best results from my skills and talents? Professionalism has two sides- preperation and presentation. There is such a huge knowledge base here, but many of these questions aren't specifically adressed for everyone's good, because they don't often come up in the app specific forums.

"Now, what should the name be? And what about the under-forum description to let the members know what should be discussed in this new forum?" How about the "Artists' Development" forum- A forum for anyone interested in learning, sharing, and developing the primary foundations for quality art creation." It would be nice for the focus to be on the artist and their skills, as opposed to a specific program. Most books, classes, and groups nowadays seem to focus on the functionality of the program as opposed to the skill of the user. What are the thigns that set two people apart, when they have the same education and experience in the same apps? Why are some people "gifted"? What is "having the eye"? How do you learn it? There are so many common elements that can be focused on- composition, lighting, color, shading, appropriateness to task, theme and message... on and on. "Art" is highly interpreable- but there is nothing wrong with knowing the "foundation" skills that set the competent artist apart from the less practiced.

My bad! I never really read the flyer- I just assumed, and made an ass of poor 'ole "ume"! Well, that's a suggestion for clint, then. How hard would it be to have single-line blubs under a "new item" heading? Sure, have special pics of a few, but at least mention everything. Huh. I'll have to look at one and see how I'd do it. (Hey, I know layout.) ;]

Personally, I don't see why advertising should be in a forum at all. In a "bulletin board" type format, maybe- but isn't that what the marketplace flyer is for? Forums are for topics that can be debated, discussed, or learned from. There are many ways to advertise here- it clutters up the forum I would just ask the mod kindly to put a note at the top of the Poser forum page saying "please advertise your products through regular methods such as the marketplace flyer, e-mail, and banners. This forum is to help people become proficient with the usage of the program. Your cooperation will be appreciated" or similar.

LOL! You kill me... you post this great model, and say something like "oh... was boiling an egg and had to kill 3 minutes..." ;] It looks like a Minotaur. I don't know why, it just popped into my head when I saw it. Just add horns....
