You don't need an agent, not for just starting out. Go to your bookstore and pick up a copy of Artist's Market 2000. It will provide a bunch of helpful information as well as market descriptions you can sort through to target.
Thread: Dome style texture | Forum: Vue
Everything about procedurals can be changed to something else because it's all algorythmic (as opposed to being "carved in stone", or pixels as the case may be ). If you want a major change, it's probably easiest to start with a fresh (blank) material, but smaller changes are as simple as adjusting a setting here or there. You mention "mapping", so I guess you're refering to the direction or position the material is placed onto the object? Simple directional changes can be made under the Effects tab by utilizing Rotation. Positioning can be adjusted with the Origin setting (under the Functions); it's a little tricky, but experiment and see what you get. That's probably the setting you're looking for. :) Varian
Thread: Dome style texture | Forum: Vue
Hi Jody, There are some textures that come with Vue, in the Special Effects materials, that will probably suit what you need. The materials I'm refering to are called Glass Tower and Green Glass Tower. The second is a slight variation of the first. Take a look and see if they will work out. :) Varian -- Treasures d'Esprit http://www.varian.net/dreamview/dreamtools/vue/

Kate, there is also a setting on the Sun panel that you may need to check (or un-check). It's usually not set, but yours may be, so take a look at that one. (Click the Sun/Light icon across the top of the screen, then choose the Sun tab, and it should be clear what setting to look at.) :) Varian -- Treasures d'Esprit http://www.varian.net/dreamview/dreamtools/vue/
Thread: Changing Plants; Help, Guitta! | Forum: Vue
Hi Bloodsong, I'm not Guitta (obviously), and also, I can't see your image, so this comment may be all wrong. From your description, however, I'd ask first, if you're using a procedural settering on your colors, do you have a function set on your color map? You'll need one in order to mix the colors up, otherwise it will just be a solid-tone blend. Secondly, you can set the Fade color (on the Transparency tab) to be whatever color will better suit your "petals." And make sure the (variable) Transparency is set to 100% and Fade to 0%. (You may also need to turn down the Flare and Span settings to 0. If I could see the image, I might be able to be more specific, but Renderosity's scripting doesn't work for me. To your other question, your material images can be any size you choose. If you're planning to render the final plant very close-up and at a high resolution, the images will need to be large so as to not pixellate in a large rendering. For most purposes, the range of around 300-500 is good. Just be sure if you're using two images (one for color, one for transparency), that both are in the same proportions to each other, and that you have identical scaling settings on both Color and Transparency. Hope this is at least somewhat helpful. :) Varian -- Treasures d'Esprit http://www.varian.net/dreamview/dreamtools/vue/
Thread: Varian mat and others | Forum: Vue
Martial, thank you for the kind words regarding my alternative plant materials! :) Bloodsong, you can apply the material to a single plant and save that modified plant to re-use quickly. For several, just grow a single plant, apply the material, then grow another -- etc. It is an extra step, but once you have the material set up for your directory paths, it's really quite a simple step. :) Varian -- Treasures d'Esprit http://www.varian.net/dreamview/dreamtools/vue/
