As I've done high school and university in French,
I can surely help you :
the "u" is a typical french vowel.
I doesn't sound like the engish "o" and "u".
it must be pronounced like the "u" in "blue",
but brighter.
for "d'esprit" it'll be something like :
d's-pr-ee (as in "free").
I have a little sound clip for you ("vue d'esprit"
with my delicate voice!).
As I'm not allowed to upload mp3 files on this
site, give me your e-mail, I'll send it to you.
It's only 36 K.

Thip,
Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely not opposed
to Poser...
I might even consider buying it very soon.
I'm just not a big fan of those Victoria,
Mike, etc. poser figures. Even high-profile
human modeling like the work done on the
movie "Final Fantasy" doesn't impress me.
To be honnest I think most human figures done
on Poser or other 3D application are ugly.
But I suppose it's just a question of using
the software in my own way...
By the way, if Poser is available for free,
I'll grab a copy of 3Dworld.

I really think that a CD-rom is better...
To be an interesting prize there should be plenty
of material (more than 100 MB). Downloading is not
very convenient for such an amount of data.
A CD-rom is cheap (less than $1) and the shipping
won't be expensive.
I could take care of it, but I only have a analog
connexion, downloading all the files would take days...
and as I'm living far away from everybody shipping
from my country is pretty pointless...

MightyPete, I'M IN ! I'll throw some "home made" textures
in the pot (it's not much, but I have nothing else to give...).
We could put all the winning prizes in a nice little
CD-rom ( the VUE pro pack ?).

Laurie,
first of all I have to say that what you've done
with POSER and VUE is excellent. Probably the best
POSER work I've ever seen (Shannon Howell is also
a winner).
I've already visited earthcurves, it's also
"creative" poser artworks. But the guy is doing
a lot of editing...
Andyspace is also quite impressive.
Do you know any gallery where I could see poser figure
in a "realistic" environment (i.e. a guy walking in a
city) The link you mentionned are all in the "fantasy"
style...

I'm sceptical about "open to all artists using any type
of software". The contest is sponsored by Curious Labs
and DAZ and the winning prizes are also from Curious
Labs and DAZ. We are definitely talking about POSER here.
I'm currently not a POSER user, so what could I do with
the victoria 2 and mike 2 CD, or the poser pro pack ???
Talking about that, is POSER really so good ?
I've tested the demo, and it seemed like a very limited
application. I'm really not impressed by it.
Every model done on Poser looks the same (the typical
lifeless expression). I can recognize in 5 sec a Poser
model, even rendered in VUE.
Tell me if I'm wrong. Or does anyone know an artist
using poser in a "creative" way ?

Alekssander ! STOP ! it's enough now ! As It's now a "e-on software picture of the day" (11-12-01) I won't change it. Anyway, your advices are all excellent. Thanks for spending so much time on my work... Eric

Thanks Jilly ! Alekssander, I think you definitely hate me... But you're damn right about the smoke, the darker snow,etc... It's a "technical" problem : I did the smoke, but we can't even see it, and the dirty snow is very difficult to create (any idea ?). I'll try to correct this... Eric

Laurie, it's excellent !
30 hour of rendering for a 1024 x 764 pixels image... Why ?
I'm definitely not an expert in VUE, but I've been dealing with little pixels for
quite a while now. So here a few advices :
using a 300 DPI setting instead of 72 DPI is useless. It won't produce
a better image. It's just an indication for printing. In fact, there will be
exactly the same amount of pixels. VUE will render exactly the same
image. 72 DPI or 300 DPI are only "printing" settings.
If you really want outstanding results use higher resolutions (i.e. 4000x4000).
Using more subrays per pixels and "best" quality anti-aliasing doesn't make very
noticeable differences. With a higher resolution, you get more details and
anti-aliasing becomes not even necessary. Anti-aliasing doesn't produce better
images, it only "hides" mystakes on low resolution images by averaging pixels.
You always lose details in this process.
The same image would have been of a higher "quality" with a "final" rendering
at 2048 x 1528 pixels. And for an optimum quality use 4096x3056 pixels with
anti-aliasing off.
Then, reduce the resolution to 1024x764 in Photoshop (or another editing software).
Modifying the resolution of an image always results in an amount of "blur". To correct
this, copy the image on another layer, apply a "sharpen" filter on it with the lowest setting
(if you use Ulead PhotoImpact try "focus" - level 1), and set the opacity (or transparency)
of this new layer to 50 %. Finally, merge (or "flatten") the layers.
It will gently rectify the bluring.
Even on a 700 MHz processor, the VUE rendering time should last only a few hours.
