Thread: Some questions | Forum: Photoshop
Good points April, with the exception to the plugins mentioned (MaskPro and KnockOut) i am a control freak when it comes to tweaking things. I haven't found a "plugin" or "action" yet that gives me the control i get from doing it by hand. Sorry BillB, but having things "on the fly" and with "lightning speed" will cause you to give up something and often its "control". April, i like your idea of using "adjustment layers" this is a non-destructive approach which is ALWAY the best route when experimenting.

Thread: Reducing File Size? | Forum: Photoshop
i use ImageReady (the "sister" app that comes bundled with Photoshop) to make my thumbnails. It handles "jpg" format much better. Just set your "crop" measurements to whatever size you want (within the gallery restrictions) and crop your larger image down. I choose to show only a portion of the image instead of the whole thing (but that's a personal choice...) Adjust the "quality" slider to change the compression as well to drop the file size even more... :) retrocity
Thread: The word, "dumb", appears 10 times on this page, and here's two more. Dumb. | Forum: Photoshop
Are you talking about using the "eyedropper tool"???
I always thought it was "click" for foreground and "alt-click" for background...
BTW, there aren't any dumb questions ( except to ask where you can get Photoshop for free !)

Thread: A Newcomer's Even Dumber Question...HELP!!! | Forum: Photoshop
you'll find the best fit in the "mixed medium" gallery but quite a few members post "manips" in the 2D gallery as well. I co-mod the 2D gallery and i wouldn't toss out your image if you put it there.
as for the "photo gallery", yeah i'd post only straight shots there (you could adjust contrast or colour cast and no one will lynch you, but i'd steer clear of posting "manips".
looking forward to seeing some of your stuff,
:)

any brushes made for CS won't work in 7 just like brushes made for 7 won't work in 6. ... always UP never DOWN ;)

huuum, mine works in greyscale and RGB modes... though something trippy happens in INDEX mode... is it just that brush set that you're having trouble with??

Thread: Smudge Tool | Forum: Photoshop
what other dynamics do you have set? if you have "Finger Painting" selected it will start to smudge using the foreground color at the beginning of each stroke...
Thread: I have two questions: | Forum: Photoshop
As for question 1: not sure what you mean "special effects" brush... As for question 2: the sponge tool changes the colour saturation of an area. If you're in greyscale, the sponge tool will increase or decrease the images contrast by shifting away from or towards the middle grey. it's part of the "toning tools" along with the Dodge and Burn tools.
Thread: Strange behavior question | Forum: Photoshop
your Windows OS never released the file. It's more a problem with Windows than it is with Photoshop (MACs don't run into this issue). It has to do with the way your directory/folders are being displayed and if you have the "thumbnail" image saved for the file (you know, instead of seeing the "default" PS icon...)
It comes and goes and you ARE doing what is considered the "work-around" solution.
i was hoping this was resolved in CS or the latest OS "patch" from Microsquish.
