Isn't that just yet another example of the Golden Rule? Those that have more gold make the rules for those that don't.
I suppose if that has more priority than all other considerations then they'll get the members they deserve. If they want to have only a commercial art site then why not just dump all the fine art and put Advertising, Banners, TV Ads as genres instead?
It's keeping up the pretense and perpetuating the deception that's the problem

Quote - True, but, as I said earlier...had there been no bitching, I'm willing to bet every drop of blood in my body that it would still be up there. Supid policies come into place when pepole can't use their common sense.
I agree with that, since the total lack of tolerance for others is what put these policies in place. If they people that had a problem with the thumbnails could have had tolerance and respect for the opinions of others then they would've just set the nudity filter in their profile and eliminated the problem without having to affect everyone else. How is that using common sense or courtesy for that matter to force their opinions on everyone else because they're offended?
If they were so concerned about thumbnails of the featured artist in the newsletter, why didn't they use common sense and just use an alternative like the avatar of the artist instead of insisting it was a factor in getting rid of the thumbnails?
If they wanted to promote artists, why would they be so dishonest in trying to pawn off a sanitized version instead of using common sense to give a true representation of the image? It makes you wonder who they're trying to promote it to and which artists they're trying to promote?
If they used any comon sense or tolerance for others then none of this would be necessary but that seems to be gone the way of the dinosaur. Those that replace them will have only "joy joy feelings for everyone around them" since "The future is a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener"

Thread: New Thumbnail policy | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Of course, what he fails to realize is that the new thumbnail rule is actually a step towards equality and treating women as people, and that it might help some men wake up and realize there is more to us than a chest, and they might just start realizing we have much more to contribute than they ever dreamed. So society gets better, all because of Renderosity.
If it's a step tyoward equality then why the double standard? Men are allowed to show nipples but women are not. How is that accomplishing the goal they stated of consistency? It only makes other worse inconsistencies. It's not about how women are treated by showing their chest anymore than it is by showing a man's hips. Each can contribute just as much or as little no matter what they show.
Maybe with all the nudity distracting people the essential point is being lost. Allowing some that have a problem with the thumbnails to force that onto everyone else is a mistake. Why wouldn't they just force them to set the nudity filter in their profile instead? That way the problem is eliminated without affecting the rest that don't have a problem with it
There are already systems in place and alternatives to solve this. Using an avatar instead of a thumbnail to represent the artists in the newsletter is one.
I'm not sure who they're trying to promote the artists to, but it is dishonest to have the thumbnails give a false impression of the art. Wouldn't they be more upset to be decieved than to see nudity in the thumbnails? If it were so offensive then why would they consent to anything that was promoted when they found out it was here, those aren't the client they would want to go after anyway right?
It's more likely that the drive toward consistency hasn't reached it's goal, it might not be planned yet but it certainly seems to be intended with the policies headed in that direction.

Thread: Second Life????? | Forum: Community Center
E-Frontiers debut of Poser 7 in Second Life sure fell flat as a pancake. The people who use Poser were too busy rendering and lazy to bother check out SL and the people in SL were too used to their usual haunts and lazy to bother to go to where the presentation was going on.
It definitely seems to be a different market that SL attracts

Quote - Picard's old ship, the Moonraker
Actually I think you mean the Stargazer that was Picard's 1st ship as Captian. Moonraker was a space shuttle in a James Bond movie with Roger Moore.
It looks like a good design to me, since 4 nacelles arranged in a cross can hold a stable warpfield and easier to distribute it evenly that way. Are all the actors going to be CGI also? Both ways have advantages and disadvantages.
I've seen what they've done with putting live actors with CGI backrounds at Hidden Frontiers, and it's pretty good as for as it goes, but they've had problems with getting rid of all the green screen lines around the actors (I've used Final Cut Pro and I know how hard it can be to do that)
The hardest part with all CGI is the lip-synching and the expressions, from what I've heard so far, Poser 7 is supposed to be going further to make that easier. No one I know has used the advanced features for it yet so I can't tell how well it works.

Thread: Poser is for Perverts? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - fundamentally flawed for reasons I won't repeat again.
As was the whole premise of the thread, and still no solutions proposed. That horse must be ground into powder by now wouldn't you think?

Any more stupid than the whole premise of this thread that Poser is for Perverts? 8 pages of talking about a stupid subject IMHO, the horse is long dead from the point of it's not the tool but the people that use it.
Equating other prejudices that are just as stupid doesn't help much, it just proves that stupidity is epidemic but doesn't do much to proposing a cure right?

Thread: is Poser the red headed step child of 3D? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Tell the world that you are working with Poser, Photoshop qo, and the world will change it´s mind when time goes on ;-)
I seriously doubt that, since the narrow minded will always find excuses to complain about it. It hasn't stopped the same thing in other media like Painters vs. Photographers, Hand drawn images vs. Digital images or other CGI apps vs. Poser.
It's not a question of what tools you use, it's whether or not the results are satisfactory no matter how you arrived at them. But don't expect the narrow minded to give up their prejudice and recognize the difference.

Well it depends on which have the value added editing and such to show even if they're using previously made footage that they put it together in new and interesting way with different songs to give it new meanings.
I'd rather put some stuff I did with Poser together with songs and voice over to give it more impact and something a whole lot more than a "silly walk animation," you have to think a lot bigger in scope than that. Something with a message and a point to the video

Attached Link: I have at least 6 of them on YouTube
But they only purged some not all of them, YouTube doesn't seem to do a very good job with cleaning out the stuff they've been asked to take down. Hardly any of the Comedy Central stuff is missing and a fairly good percentage of the Anime stuff is still there.A lot of the Final Fantasy stuff is Poser like but I think it was done with a different program. I've put a bunch of stuff I've done with Poser on YouTube though.
I'm working on more stuff now to punt on there too

But that's still beating the old dead horse about the "make art" button in Poser. As you pointed out, other artists don't have to mix the pigments and carve the brushes themselves to do their images, so why do Poser artists have to be "pure" in their creations to be original?
There is prejudice and narrow minded people in all forms of art, photographers get the same complaints. I wouldn't try to explain or justify it since they aren't going to change their prejudices anyway.

Thread: ...Are Poser Figure Artist using Deceptive or Mis-leading Advertising? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well since Laslo Vespremi cleared up the misunderstanding about why the ad was presented like that, there still is the question of why this particular ad was the subject of such intense scrutiny.
It's not the only ad that EF has done lately, there have been a lot of complaints about the method of doling out the reasons one at a time in such a teasing manner but I haven't heard anything about them being misleading or claims they can't live up to with the product.
So why the ad for PFA specifically?

Thread: ...Are Poser Figure Artist using Deceptive or Mis-leading Advertising? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Yes, yes......we should always be sure to congratulate self-righteous ranting. To do otherwise would be apathetic.
I'd advise saving the outrage for subjects that are actually worth getting outraged over. There isn't any virtue in outrage expressed over.......tiny topics. Like using a sledgehammer to kill a fly.
I'd agree with that it seemed to be a tempest in a teapcup to me and I asked Veritas what it was about this particular ad that was so outrageous compared to a lot of other ads. It might have been standing up for a small amount of truth but I'm betting there was a lot more to the story than just a fight for justice.
I think it depends on who is doing the advertising. laslov said he was the one and he works for E frontier so the company that made the product was making the claims, and it was easier to own up to it.
Most of the time the companies that make the product have different companies that solely do advertising make the videos and they put more effort into selling the advertising campaign than they do the product. They only care if the ad looks good, not what it says about the product.
So it's a good thing that laslov corrected the misunderstandings but I would think that the principle of Caveat Emptor would apply more to this situation.

Quote - all I do is just throw every unwanted email I get from EF or DAZ away.
Poeple around here love hypes, they thrive on them, I don't think they can live without them. but don't seem to care, since they fall just as quickly for the next hype coming.
Don't most people around here do the same thing about deleting email? They seem to ignore hype and advertising rather than loving it or falling for it. There are several ads on each page here but when was the last time you paid any attention to them?
It's mostly become irrelevant what kind of advertising claims are made since no one ever believes them anyway. No one does care because they've heard it all so much that it has become static. The advertisers have cried wolf so much that people turn a deaf ear on them.
