Similar but..... 1. Image Quality 2. Skill 3. Composition 4. Subject matter 5. POV 6. and all the rest I guess I put image quality and skill at the top as Chris but subject matter lower because I feel it can be (sometimes) less important. Because some photographers can make 'ordinary' things seem so fantastic. Objects or scenes that many people would pass up as a dull or uninspiring can be constructed to make a fab shot. Anyways, as said, every shot is very different, so hard to judge. David
Thread: Large Format Photography - detail :-) | Forum: Photography
This image is great, and the detail is also fantastic. Looks great scanned in as well, of course it would look even better if you were to blow it up 'traditional style' as well, but then we would not be able to see it. :) Really great info, not having much knowledge of this area of photograpghy I only have admiration for the patience and hard work for a single shot ! Nice work. Great idea to post this and tell us all about it, good thread ! Thanks.
Thread: Not sure how many of you ever go in from this page | Forum: Photography
I have actually been through there a few times this week, stubled across it really though (the first time), so yup, think it's a good idea to bookmark it and go through it as an entry page to the rest of the photography stuff. Nice work Doug.:)

Wow, this is great news. You have every right to start shouting from the rooftops. Perhaps you should post the pic here or sometime closer to the 17th so we know what to look out for, or maybe leave it a suprise! Congrats ! :)))))

Not a photographer ? :) too late, you are committed now ;) lol. Yup, it's just David, Davidy reads a bit funny I think, should have been more creative when registering. I think you are really brave in photoshop, I hardly use it because I'm soo scared of it! and mucking things up. Keep sharing :)

wow, I am really late on this one, my apologies to you Marlene, after I asked about your postwork in the gallery. Of course both images have their merits, as everyone has pointed out so I'm not going to go on. I think the original did benefit from some work. I think the building is 10x better, the colours of the wood and the reflection in the deck on the veranda is excellent, though you have lost some detail in the eaves. The only thing in the whole image is the tree leaves, maybe a bit too bright, but people have covered this already. I think the grass is excellent and so is the foliage around the tree trunk. I think the trunk would have been fine left lighter, it doesn't unbalance the image at all, it's a beautiful composition. So overall, it's great, more please :)

A good lesson, this is exactly the kind of stuff I could do with learning. I like these little bitesize chunks of info. Cheers. David

Cool pic, is taking pics or getting too close to a dam a problem? interesting. Great pic anyway. David

Not sure, don't really feel qualified to give you any feedback but here goes. The gold ring? mmmm maybe if it was a bit more in focus, not sure how it would look if coming out from the page until I saw it done. I really like the reflection of the compass on the inside of the casing, it would be great if you could exploit this more.
Maybe it is a bit too dark behind the compass, but maybe not, you don't want it all to be the same either, if you know what I mean. I like the framing :) I haven't given you much to go on really, I'm sure the others will come up with some great ideas.

cooool shot, would have been better if there wasn't paper in the window, but the composition and everything else can't be criticised. The picture in the shop below though does look very good as well. WHoops I notice that zacko has already mentioned the paper. Anyways, fantastic.

nice shot, you have captured the detail in the trees superbly, and of course the reflections are great, fanastic entry. Better get my skates on and find something before the end of the month comes round, :)

Great shots, I have never seen much of these birds, would be great as you say if you could get the babies when they first leave the nest.

No problem, I was being a bit on the dim side. Anyway, I have just finished updating my firmware and it's all fine. Thanks for being so quick on the links and everything. David :)
