If you mean to indicate that most are on Poser 6, 7, etc. I don't feel that's remotely true. Feel, is the key. I don't really know and it's hard to determine without a large sample size that isn't site specific - because dynamics do change per site. My best guess is that most are using Poser 9 or higher. That's also considering you can get one version back, even Pro 2012 for pennies, comparatively to the full price of PP 2014, throughout the year and surprisingly often.

Thread: seriously considering going back to Poser 5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
since Poser came a long way and finally turned into a serious tool, I couldn't evolve any nostalgic feelings for a pre PP2014 edition, for I don't want to have back an interface, that looks childish like a fisher prize toy. I need my dependency editor and my morph brush. I need to copy morphs from my character to my clothes. I need 64bit software.
Agree. While charming to reminisce, I don't really have any plans to go any further than one version back if I did go back. Tkinter scripts? Please no.

Thread: OT: Anyone round here using Adobe's CC service? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Fair enough, the analogies might not stack up but to allude to well, we rent all these things anyways, so adding software isn't a big deal - It isn't a big deal in itself until you are renting everything. We are talking a single case, CC, but I have concern about the signal it sends and the road it leads to. Again, I think it's fine as an option IF there are other purchase options also available. I don't really like being forced in a box either.
I think it's completely fine to use The GIMP, Paint Shop Pro and any of a number of photo/paint programs. They are all far more capable these days. Of course you need to make sure whatever any program offers meets your needs. Unless you are at a company that requires a specific software, it just feels to me like an elitism to go with Adobe, just because it's Adobe. For me, I have invested in pay-for plugins so I'm going to want PS plugin capability, which means stick with an old version of PS or go with something like PSP. I don't need 3D painting capability, I have it in 3D Coat. For layout art and texturing work, I just need something that does it's primary function well. I don't need to stitch panoramas or whatnot.

Shane (your reply earlier),
That's true but you can also rent to own, given the financial means to do it and whatnot. There are also things we don't rent. Well, there are rental cars but you don't rent "your" car. You don't rent your TV and rent to own you eventually pay it off. I might think differently if it was going towards paying off the full price... now that would be fair to me. You pay it off as you rent + interest for the convenience of making small payments. It just really doesn't work for me, not saying it's evil or whatever. I don't want it. I just feel with this cloudy scenario we are being shoehorned into getting used to and eventually accepting renting every single little thing. Again if someone else is totally cool with the eventual scenario of renting 2 dozen pieces of software and all that, great! I certainly will pay right out or go open source over the rental thing, no matter what alternative it comes to. I like the companies that offer multiple "Choices". Rent it, buy it, whatever it.

I can't speak to having any direct experience with CC. But I do think it's wise to be cautious when approaching subscription services like this. The fact is that more and more it's all going to add up and you can only swing so many subs before it nickle and dimes you to death. Then if you stop paying versus purchasing right out, then that whole sub money actually went towards nothing, it's not like it was investing in paying the price off. I do have softwares that you get X amount of time of free updates once you purchase or you get updates through version X, but I have no issue with it and it allows you to evaluation if the new features of the new version are worth continuing to invest in it - but with those, you can use what you have paid for. Personally, I just find it all kind of "schemey" but if it works for you, then great!

Thread: What happened? - Please bring the old one back! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
LOL, yes, if they wanted forum lurkers to post, mission accomplished!
I also wondered why under the posts there are icons to decipher (quote, print, etc) when there certainly is enough room to make text buttons. Also the "report" button doesn't have a tooltip so it took me a moment :)

Holy Moley! All I can say is wow... Forum body isn't too bad (except that... why not scale to window width percent?) but the forum post listing is all Fisher-Price huge.

So are the scenes going into the cloud? Or is the "cloud service" (or whatnot) causing interference when saving scenes?

Thread: Mouse recommendations? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000. I don't dig on huge mice - smaller the mouse the less I get any hand cramping. :) I've had a good range of mice and I find the Microsoft ones to move around more cleanly on the screen - a bit more pricey though. You're own experience may vary.
Rechargable batteries save you a ton of dough.

Thread: Grouping BB's Stocking shader? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Brilliant shader. If BB wrote a book with node and math explanations and inluded a disk of his materials, I'd be the first in line. :)

Thread: Which would you rather have? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I respect everyone's wishes, whether I agree with them or not. I think it's interesting to see what people dream of and what frustrates them.
I would love to see a Particle system, a lot could be done with it - explosions, splatters, fog, fire - all things we have to do now using planes or clever application of materials.
I agree with a non-AIR, no-Flash Library. I haven't had continuous issues with the library but it seems to be too dependent on 3rd party and it appears to be a constant issue for many others. If it were replaced, I would hope would retain the same features to customize it (and then some).
I'd like to see more emphasis in handling some things in Poser as Assets. I'll explain. PMD should not require being attached to a Figure/Prop and otherwise hacked to make PMD Injection Poses - Poser should have a Morphs folder, where it can save out which morphs you want in PMD, how they are wired (ERC, Dependent Parms) and build the injection pose thing for you. Dynamic Hair should be improved and be able to be saved out as an asset, without a "hair prop", that way you could do things like grow hair right on figures and not have to worry about intermediate props. Physics settings should be saveable as an Asset. Cloth settings - same. Brush settings - same or allow saving Presets like you can save Render Presets. You know, just go in and see what components could be done this way and streamline the experience. Make a Morphs folder if needed, a Settings folder, whatever.
I agree with those that feel that SM should strengthen, enhance and tweak what is there.
In some ways they have been doing this. Such as the ability to save partial materials and what I think of as "node snippets". But it could go so much further :)

Thread: What Would You Like To See More of in the Poser forum? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
There's a lot of value to fostering folks who are new to Poser. Don't we want new people to learn and enjoy it, tell others how awesome a time they had at Renderosity (and other places)? Don't we want growth as a whole? Another thing is that newbie might feel so welcome that he (or she) explores and learns and creates freebies or products that blows your socks off or comes up with a concept or idea nobody thought of. Or that newbie might just turn out to be an awesome, positive person that makes others feel welcome down the road. You know, it could infect people in the best way. There are so many good angles to look at by just exercising a little bit of forethought, restraint and compassion. That doesn't mean running off, picking flowers and joining the hippie movement either (well, unless you really WANT to, which is fine by me). We were all newbies at one point and also people learn things at different speeds. We also all have specialties and things we struggle with. But that makes us diverse and interesting as a whole and a community interlocks like that, where you lend your strengths to the strengths of others and accomplish things.
