I too have had this problem but I don't know of any work-arounds. The problem is however not consistent on my machine and generally I run Lightwave and Carrara at the same time but having a dual processor system, I set the affinity to run each on separate processors until I begin rendering which I will go ahead and affinate both processors to software that I am rendering my end product on. With this in mind, having run Carrara alone and with other programs running in the background such as Poser and Lightwave, I have come to the conclusion that it is something more or other than a system error and more of a software bug based on certain system configurations, however that is my personal educated guess.

Dual PII 400 Oxygen VX1 32meg version 256 mbram IBM 7200 rpm ATA66 drives all for under $2000 when I bought the system in 1998. I must say this, and that is if you are as serious as I am when it comes to 3D art then a dual processor with the right components can be a valuble tool without a doubt and the prices are good for parts these days. I am using an Asus P2BD mb and it only cost $350 at the time. I am sure you can get it for less now and I can push it up to a dual 600. As for my results, well lightwave has maxed out at about 738 and 3D studio max only benched 577. but I just got a bench on carrara and it is running at a WOPPING 798! It FLIES through carrara even when doing heavier crunching. It is just something to consider. Not to mention running a more elite operation system like NT. 98 does not take advantage of Dual processors and the Oxygen boards are VERY GOOD boards to have if you are into 3D art. They don't have the fill rate of a voodoo 3 but they have the features as you would expect from any pro CAD video board. So consider that.
Thread: IK confusion using Carrara | Forum: Carrara
Please tell me how it can be done, I like to squeeze every ounce of productivity out of the software that I by since my purchases are far and few. I am still running Lightwave 5.0 which is dated and is slowly but surely getting old witht the new and easier software that is out. I am not a very good programmer so writing extensions are out of the question. Furthermore, in using this product, I have gotten some very promising results which can definitly stand against LW, however as an animator, I called metacreations AND went to thier website and they stresses "YES IT HAS INVERSE KINEMATICS!" which later after purchasing it was a joke. So if there is a way please let me know because I would like to continue to use a piece of software like this as I can produce a product much faster than I can in lightwave because lightwave is not so user friendly. If you need more info from me like my e-mail or ICQ no. please let me know in your reply

Hey this is a great pic, not for the detail but for its geoform flow. SO many people forget the importance of motion in stills as to setting emotions or guiding the viewer to the focal point and you have demostrated here in this pic the flow can be detail within itself. The picture on top really makes my eyes travel alot without the confusion of clutter good job
