Damn that is a wonderful idea - but I thought you could export Poser figures without doing that? I thought you could export the whole figure as one... Or, are you talking about Poser Scenes - with the Poser character and extra things around it? tracy-ann

MERRY XMAS!! Oh - the earth fleet is the whole lot, I suspect that I will have a astomsphere fighter which works in space also... so it will need wings. Because to be honest, without wings it will fall from the sky ... (work in space very well, but when we send them to a planet they just drop from the sky) ^_^ I have a couple of ideas for models for all the fleet ships from fighters to Carriers, I'm looking for the most realistic, and "hard sci-fi" engine system... but, I have a pitty of study to do... This is all for a story universe I'm creating, for a novel I'm writing on internet. huggles all Merry Xmas again Tracy-Ann
Thread: TracyAnn , you were looking for this.. | Forum: Bryce
yeah thanks Quikp51, I had seen that one and grabbed the tutorial on that a while back... very good for learning - but when I started doing custom textures I found it hard to do the textures so they would fit... My new issue is how to make custom textures - finding it VERY VERY hard to draw things using a bloody mouse :) But I'm getting the hang of it - Not posting anymore "complete" pictures to the forum until I have the textures learnt... don't really wannt use what others have made.... tracy

I would love to say that the fighters were what I was aiming for :) In fact, the tail end of the fighters was something I stuffed up and just liked it ^_^ Thanks for the compliments... Right now I'm just "messing" around and learning as I go, but I need to start establishing some "basic" ways in which the Earth fleet will look... I don't know if I should go curve and round, or blocky and longer (ie, more like Wing Commander ships) tracy-ann

Yes I did give each group different names -(IE layer one and layer two etc etc) However, it isn't keeping that grouping when I import into UV - so I have to move each part of the model and not groups.... (LOT of groups when You think of about 100 parts to a model ship I jsut made) tracy

then I suppose you map only that part in a certain way within bryce - very good idea... a texture for each part... might take up memory but it is a great way to get the best look...

Spike you have been a great help... I am going to redo some of my older models with UVMapper, to get a little more of the feel I wanted from them... I will get back to you if there are any problems... but I think I understand what UVMapper is doing - which is pretty much cutting the model down the middle and flattening it out... thanks again hugs tracy-ann

Sorry Spike - no it doesn't... I downloaded UV Mapper, and can't for out for the life of me how to use it... I load up a OBJ file from Rhino into UV Mapper, and get a VERY VERY VERY flat image of lots of lines which goes on outside the extents of my monitor (which is in 1280x1024 anyway) tracy-ann

The image is great... yes - to repeat everyone else - ship too high out of the water. . . the only other thing is, where are the little splashes of water from the dolphins? I wouldn't have a clue how you would do that :) But it is an idea :) But the picture is grand ^_^ tracy-ann

I think there is a option on the "E" function of the spot lights which makes it both infinte lights, and also makes it visable. Here is a training thing for making a comet - use that as a "bases" for learning how to make spot lights, I have done one just for the hell of it - and just following the comet tutorial and then messing around will get you want you want... http://www.petersharpe.com/Tutorial20.htm tracy-ann

I do - I build the models in Rhino3d, then export it to OBJ with Mesh about half way on... I then import it into Bryce as a OBJ, but it is still doing it. tracy-ann

Okay - that way of creating custom skins is great - if you you have just got one layer to edit... ie, looking at the DXF you have only a top and a bottom which is important. however, if you have something like I have above, it needs to be "larger" then the model (so it appears) to allow wrapping. I think the only really good way for me to do custom models and textures is to make each face mappable... means more memory and hard drive space to make it (and slower) but I'm kinda a perfectionist, and hate compromissing with programs (and microsoft hate me for that ^_^) Yes I have tried every mode of mapping in Bryce so far - and I swear, unless there is a secret to how to do it - I can't get a custom texture, or one premade my people far better then I, to mapp in such away that it is the same on the top.. bottom... and sides. It always maps them differently ... I know there is a way of doing it in 3dMax because I used that last week at a friends... however, I can't seem to figure out how to do it with Bryce 3 OR 4. tracy

Do you mind if I can add to this? Like a space ship or something? If so - you got a bigger version I can see? :) Okay - I make my own - but hey ^_^ it is pretty :) tracy-ann
Thread: Sleeping Giant repost | Forum: Bryce
Yeah I too would remove the castle - it kinda moves it away from the "center of attention" which to me is the sleeping gaint. (hey, you could add a torist center instead and make it modern ^_^) The only other thing I notice is that your cliffs (especially the ones up the front) are a little shiney. I don't know much about the mapping and texturing myself yet, but I would suggest trying to make the front cliffs a little more life like by removing that shinyness.. Other then that - the gaint looks wonderful, and the whole scene is very good. Did you do the gaint in Poser? (which version)
