I probably could have bought all of 3 of them...for what I paid for those 2 x-frog static plants.

(I tried loading static palms once I was in the ecosystem editor...and just got crashes)

That kind a sucks....I paid $15 each for what I thought were regular ecosystem plants.....(for the very reason of varying up repeadative patterns in forrest)

I didnt know there was difference in static plants.....

I got it to load as a static object....still havent figured out how to load as an ecosystem..

Yes the association issue really shouldnt be a problem...(Ive seen MPEG on other assets that have worked)

I did try to load the trees as a static object and it worked! (I do wish the X-frog trees had an installer)....

The big question is can I use the trees in an ecosystem?

My asset list checks out with yours....maybe im dumping it into the wrong folder?

the pros use:
basically it is a SSS shader for the inner eye with a color map ....and then its covered in a transparant sphere with a kick butt reflection map on it.....(its actually 2 separate peices of geo....just like in real life)

Im using a fractal map from terragen........(from chips Terrapak)......(its all one big land mass)

Im trying to do an evlauation of V6 for professional matte painting purposes.....(im really trying to take it out for a test ride)

The full render for a 4K with ultra/renderosity settings is 23 hours lol.....

also I want to put stuff in the valley...so Im trying to get all atmosphere...haze and shadow all included

I've been really pushing my rendering time....(Im a mental ray user)

basically I start with default light......till get my vegetation worked.....making sure im getting rid of all procedural patterns from vegetation...

then I pick my enviorment/sky/.....I tend to like atmospheric spectral stuff........from out of the box.......(godrays, spectral sun and sunsets).....

BE Care full alot of the skys automatically have renderosity chosen.....I immediately dial it down to like global ambience with preview setting.....make some quick checks for atmospehere and haze.....and direction of sun...

and start to work back up the ladder....doing tests at preview to broadcast to superior to ultra...

eventually I set off a renerosity render at ultra......with a 4K resolution overnight (8-20 hours)

if you want the good look you got to work for it....

Maybe I clicked Mac version or something...guess has to be a simple explanation. (yes they had billboards folder and a perspectives folder  in the zip)(I dont know what they are)

(all the other plants I have bough had a nice neat VOB file..just drop it in it and go)

(and yes Im a lazy person...basically Im finding out you only need 2-3 really good trees to make a killer wide shot).......So I figure Im gonna buy them (a set for jungle, a set for regular forest etc...)LOL

Yes, Im using ecosystems. Basically its a pretty wide shot.  Imagine a tropical valley (Im up to 23,000,000,000 polygons) with mountain range in background (I will post image soon)...

Im using very small scale....and its using alot of instances to fill the jungle canopy...(93% coverage)

Are you using ecosystems? I can build ecosystems with the Scots Pine (100-150K polygons) on a 5 years old 1GB computer!

Im starting to make headway with Date Palm ($15) purchased throught the Vue in menue which atuomatically installs......(in conjunction with Banna tree and eucaliptus)

Already making headway. Its 30-50K palm but it looks great...(beast to render) but it blows away the 2 free palms they give you (the coconut and the mexican palm)

Advice buy the good ones ! (which is my evaluation) will post results soon!

Explains alot....I have no .vob files (just some kind of MPEG file....

could it be I bought some outdated x-frog trees?

Yeah didnt work. I think it might be an outdated file......everything in the zip folder is....a bunch of tifs a couple MPEG files and couple XFR (xfrog files)

Does anybody else prefer X-frog vegetation?

I downloaded those more expensive palm plants...Im trying to figure out how to install them (I guess they were created in Xfrog) (lot of tiffs etc)

Has anyone encouneter plants with this type of instalation?
