Now if we could only make it not look like "Ape-Man on Chemotherapy", we'd be all set. :) Seriously, this is great work. Poser of the year award in order, I think. Hoborg
Thread: Where to Learn about Carraras fate? | Forum: Carrara
I bought a digital camera a few years back, and then the company stopped making the replacement batteries for it. They just stopped. They aren't under any obligation to me to continue making the batteries JUST for me and the 10,000 other people who bought it. I'm pretty sure they can stop making whatever they want whenever they want to. I'm no lawyer, either, and I am a little upset about Carrara's future, but I don't think there is a basis for legal action here. I'm just going to roll with the punches like I did with my camera. Carrara does what it's supposed to do, and it will always behave the quirky way it does. But that's what you paid for. I agree that there should at least be patches. But I don't think that a Carrara 2.0 is something that they ought to produce. Hoborg

What?! Class action suit?! I hope you are joking. For WHAT?! They made a piece of software, you bought it, the deal is done. They have no further obligation to you. Don't believe that all companies are like Zygote, giving away freebies because they feel like it. When was the last time your mechanic came to your house and fixed your car because you went to him four years ago for an oil change. Just because everybody's up in arms about Microsoft (even though NOBODY cares) doesn't mean the public should get something for nothing.

Thread: underwater?? | Forum: Carrara
Wow. That's gonna be a long one to write out... I think the important factors are these: 1) Ambient light should be blue-green, and very dim. 2) get an image map of some water waves (Like when you are looking at a pool, not the kind you surf on) and use it in a large projecting spotlight on your scene. I've found that this, combined with a soft, gently rolling landscape (terrain) makes a pretty convinving underwater scene. These are just the basics, obviously. Good luck! Hoborg

Not much.:) I have 96 megs of Ram on a PII/400. It does take up quite a bit, and i can't get rid of all the features I don't use. But I will surf over there and sign up later today.

I like the other render better, actually. Lightwave? It looks like those rubbery leaves in the tropics.
Thread: IMPORTING POSER WITH TEXTURES. PLEASE HELP | Forum: Carrara
Excellent. That's what I was trying to say. The MTL file will not write the entire path of the material.
Thread: IMPORTING POSER WITH TEXTURES. PLEASE HELP | Forum: Carrara
Quick answer: You Can't. Long Answer: You Can't. Informative Answer: It's rare that a file format such as OBJ (what I assume you are using) has the texture maps built in. Instead the OBJ comes with a MTL file that lets the program (carrara, in this case) know where to put the maps, and what groups everything is in. I'm not completely sure, but I think a few formats actually DO let you do this. Try 3ds. It's a good format to use any way. Otherwise, just slam all the maps back on it in Carrara's Texture room! I don't know about your image, but I love the theme. Especially when you said "Just because the area has been cleared of buildings doesn't mean smoking is OK" Party on! Hoborg

I hate 2000b. I hate it so much I went and found a copy of 98 to install. Benefits? Well, 98 doesn't take up 25% of my system's resources, and it does EXACTLY what I need it to do, namely, talk and share files with my cohorts. It may even support intrest groups. If not, I'll stick with it. I can talk to you guys here. :) 2000b has SO MUCH stuff that I don't need and takes up a lot of my screen in addition to the resources. Hoborg

I would very much like to hear your music, guys. I'm not in a band, but I play guitar (stubby fingers), and I'm interested in the relationship between art and music. Any MP3's you'd be willing to part with? I don't know if my local stores are going to carry Enaura or ChipzTuneZ (I had to make that band name up, since you didn't say what it was) One would do, I wouldn't want you boys to think I was going to pirate it on Napster or anything. :) Hoborg

Well, the fog is so translucent that I don't think that alphas would work anyway. It's possible, given enough density... I would just render ocer black, and when compositing, use something like "Add" or "multiply" to have JUST the fog appear. Hoborg
Thread: Tom De Turkey...W.I.P. | Forum: Carrara
I have an idea. If this is in Carrara, you should add about 2% to the "Spherical morph". Tom looks a little blocky in the rear region to me. good work. the composite has something wrong with it too, but I understand that it's a test render. Hoborg
