Thread: Slightly OT: Which is the better system to run poser on? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
SATA generally give 10 percent speed increase over PATA(IDE) disks . SATA Raptor disks, however, give 30 percent speed increase, but cost much more .
SATA drives also tend to overheat more easily and require better ventilation/fans compared to IDEs .
Raid really is only useful for servers, feeding data to multiple clients over a network - Raid0 = striping for boost in disk-read performance, and Raid1 = mirroring for backup . Raid is a pain to setup, requires motherboard support and XP Pro(I think or win 2000 and above) and is not worth it for workstations .
Your system of 3 GHz Pentium processor will easily blow away a 2.2 GHz AMD, until RAM becomes a consideration . A 2.2 GHz processor limits motherboard FSB to 500+, and RAM speed to 300+, compared with your 800 FSB and 400 RAM .
I'm no expert but I think you can sit smug for a long time to come . ;oD
Thread: OT- Blender versus Wings - your thoughts | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I tried Wings, Blender, Milkshape and Anim8or for vertex modelling . I find ... Wings' functions too esoteric . Blender's interface too complicated . Milkshape too slow in large import/export and is commercial . I find Anim8or (by Steven Glanville, Windows only) best ... It has primitives, point, edge, face tools, ... standard lathe, extrude, mirror, weld, join, ... inset, thickness, subdivision, deformer, ... a simple interface, ... And good documentation and tutorials .

Brave effort . :D hehe Try painting on the texture map and not on the rendered image . And you simply must get these great hair props with textures from Kozaburo ... http://digitalbabes2.com/ And great hair painting tips (not all links work) ... http://www.fignations.com/jelisa/tutorials/fur_and_hair.html Specifically ... http://div.dyndns.org/EK/tutorial/updo/ Finally, if you're the gardening type and want to grow Poser 5 hair from skull caps ... http://www.perpetualvisions.com/articles-and-graphics/tutorial-poser5-hair2.htm

Thread: Is it posible to do this with poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm not sure but is it a connected hoop/ring ? It should be theoretically possible - ikchain the hip down to the end segment; and lock the end segment with Use IK (requires manual CR2 editing) . Then, pulling/pushing the other parts would deform the hoop/ring anchored at the hip and end segment .

Thread: Trouble Cloning Back Up System Disk with Norton Ghost | Forum: Poser Technical
My previous experience with Ghost was a console based product that came with an old motherboard . I got the newer Ghost to manage the numerous partitions I'm using . .Net framework creates an additional security setting in the MIE browser with .Net framework reliant components ! I'm not sure, but there seems to be a bunch more of Svchost.exe (5 in all) running in Task Manager . After installing .Net 1.1, the XP bootup jumped from 5 to 13 progress bar cycles at the bootup screen . It remained the same after removing Ghost from the system tray but returned to normal after appying the patch (service pack) . The patch, according to the documentation, is to address some customer and security issues . Anyway, all's well that ends well; touchwood; fingers crossed . Maybe yours is .Net 1.0 . BTW, there's a 2.0 beta for download from Mighty Mike .
Thread: Trouble Cloning Back Up System Disk with Norton Ghost | Forum: Poser Technical
After getting the service pack 1 update from Mighty Mike for .Net framework, things worked fine - I'd at least have expected some documentation on it from Symantec, instead of finding it out by trial and error . For developers, the .NET Framework 1.1 makes it easy to rapidly create powerful software that maximizes performance, scalability, opportunities for integration, reliability, security, and the end-user experience, while minimizing the costs of deployment and management. Not to mention a whole bunch of security holes and application bugs - Sheesh ... looks like .Net framework is here to stay, at least on my system .

Thread: Importing Poser figures into other 3D rendering programs | Forum: Poser Technical
grrr ... forum mangles html tables ... Exporting Poser scenes for External Rendering ==================================== First Export mesh from Poser with below setting ... CHECK 3. and 5. ONLY . 1. Include body part names in polygon groups 2. Use exact internal names except spaces 3. Include figure names in polygon groups 4. Include existing groups in polygon groups 5. Weld body part seams 6. As morf targets (no world transformations) Explanation ... 1. includes groupings (actor names) with a colon suffix and the figure ID eg "head:1" 2. removes blanks from 1. Note - 1. overrides 3. 3. includes figure names, replacing blanks with "_" eg "Figure 1" to "Figure_1" 4. includes groupings (actor names) - to be used with 3. 5. welds vertices - required for proper rendering (not for morfing) 6. uses mesh local coordinates - for morfing only It should work with any rendering program able to read .obj files . It would also help if they also read .mtl (material) files . Most WIndows derived 3D software use Z axis as the Up axis, Whereas Poser (obj) uses Y axis as the Up axis . In such a case, the Y axis must be mapped to the Z axis, and a mirror applied about the X axis . Problems may thus arise with incomplete mapping of coordinate systems . Another problem is scaling factor - Poser uses 0.1 to 1 foot which doesn't translate to any known system ! I think Composer (Java Windows freeware by John Wind) can be used to fix these problems . http://www.tir.com/%7Ejohnwind/Compose11.zip Good Luck .
