The $550.00 price is very steep. Gonna take a lot longer to save up. Especially when ya have 5 children.
Kupa has said though that the educational discount will still apply to Poser 5, so get out there and enroll at your local community college! :)

Im not sure if these would work or not, but there are freebies on Turbosquid called "Manga Babes" that are extremely popular. They are low poly and even though they are in 3DS format, they can be made poseable in you have the Poser Pro Pack.

There are great tutorials at www.3dcommune.com, here at Renderosity, and at www.posertech.com also.
Also don't forget Poser Arcana at http://www.awakemm.com/poserarcana/.
All four sites mentioned above contain tutorials written by people from all walks of life, from hobbyist to professional.

Everything that everyone else is so scared about is great to me. I like the idea of creating my own hair and clothing morphs right inside the program. I am a merchant too. I sell at 3DCommune and here. I don't care to sell at DAZ. I do mostly character morphs, clothing textures, and Bryce items. Doesn't look like I have to sweat anything, does it? =) But then again, I pull in quite the comfortable amount from job. I don't live under the illusion that my hobby will support my family. What I make from the stores is lunch money. Reality sucks, huh? Personally, I hope that the hair that you can create within Poser will not be permitted to be sold or exchanged, that it can be exported only for end-user purposes in other 3D programs. Much like the avatars created withing Avatar Labs. I know, I raled against that when the program first came out, but I'm over that now. Poser 5 sounds like the perfect DIY tool. Can't wait..can't wait! Like I said elsewhere, since I will be able to create these items instead of buying them, I might be able to afford taking up my other fave hobby again, cigarettes. :)

I was just getting ready to put away my "toys", format my hard drive, install Red Hat and live a nice peaceful geeky existance when you go ahead and wave these teasers at me. Sigh... In two weeks, when I'm sailing on the Gulf Of Mexico trying to relax. I'll be drinking Corona, getting tan, and babbling, "It's got a hair editor..." Sigh...

Unfortunately, the license for Poser is nontransferable. If you want to sell your copies, you have to contact CL and get permisison first. There's a thread about this over at the 3D Commune. The link I posted here will take you that post. Hope I have helped :)Thread: I think this is what made Daz change their position | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Weird, I once personally contacted Daz about making derivitive works and they told me to contact CL. The crazy thing that money makes us do.

I really dont think the theft of Posettes hand meshes would have prompted this. DAZ owns no rights to Posette and Dork. Steve Cooper and CL does. They may have manufactured them for CL, but CL owns all the intellectual rights to them. The only thing DAZ could help in providing was verification that the mesh was used. There is a big difference though. The actual mesh for Posette was transferred to Amy. Tailor DOESN'T TRANSFER ANYTHING, it simulates. Again, there is NO copyright violation. For Daz to deem this "illegal" as they have on PoserPros is farcical at its best, insulting at its worst.

If you allow that Pitchfork and Torch tent to come within 50 yards of myDead Horses and Flogs tent, I'll sue you, bucko!!! I mean the nerve of some people, to come out with an idea similar to mine and try to sell it in my own neighborhood! What's next, IB setting up a booth selling navel lenses so everyone who has their heads up their backsides can still see where they are going?
