My suggestions are that is needs more to loose stuff than anything new right now. The image is way too busy, to many conflicting textures and clashing colors. First make the floor a solid color try a gray or other cool color. You can apply a subtle bump to make it look like carpet. Next make the left wall match the color of the floor, a slightly lighter shade than the floor. Remove the texture from this wall. Try a smooth glossy surface for the lamp stands. I would move the staircase more toward the left rear corner, rather than leaving it in the middle of the room. The texture and color on the stairs is well, I don't know but you may wish to experiment with it a bit. Once you solve the texture overload. You will need an object as a center of focus for the scene. This could be a window, statue, work of art, something for the viewer to focus on. I am gathering that this is not a midevil setting as the lamps are rather contemporary.

Unless you have Component video, Digital Video, SVHS gear and can make your own HQ tape, then send the uncompressed file to the production facility and have them encode it for you.

For TV or other commercial work you do not use a CODEC. You save the file out as an uncompressed AVI full frame 728 wide by 700 high. Interlaced NTSC format 29.7 fremes per second.

I don't use it much any more is true. It is but one of tools I use. For some things like this image it was a time saver. Never said that I did not like bryce. I like it just fine. Just feel that there are a lot of other tools out there that can be more versatile and efficient overall than bryce. The best feature about bryce and I wish all 3D apps had it is the spray can renderer. You have to admit though only using bryce this image would not be possible. Where as there is other SW out there that can do all of this and more in one app.

Rath, KenS, And phantast, Hmm really tough choice. KenS and Phantast really tough choice. I would call it a tie, I love the expression on Ken S's character and all of us can propably remember vivdly just those nights. Phantast's image I find very unique and very entertaining. Yup everyone just has these hugh blocks hanging around on the end of enormous chains. Ahh heck it's a tie by me one for KenS and one for Phantast. Well maybe just an edge to Phantast for the added entertainment value. Chanson's image is excellent but not enough bump appeal. The final and only vote goes to KenS because we've all been there and done that. Excellent work everyone.
Thread: Remark about the Bryce Challenge | Forum: Bryce
I spent quite a bit of time thinking of what to make the this challange. I chose the subject to allow the most amount of people the opprotunity to have some fun. I also wanted to spark some imagination. Now someone who only has bryce and no other application including no paint or photo program has to stretch the imagination muscles. Still there are a ton of objects out there that can be imported. You just have to use some imagination to create an image that fits the theme. No one just renders in bryce. No one. You compose, light texture, adjust your image in dozens of different ways at the very minimum. You actually spend more time doing this that making the initial object were you to model it within bryce. Choosing challange topics that only limit what can be created only in bryce and using no other application, that would include no post processing, no object imports and no custom maps or painted textures or material presets. Because those would require a external paint or photo application. You would very quickly run out of Challange topics and the whole challange topic would die real quick. A really alented Bryce artist would have no problem comeing up with something to fit the theme without haveing to resort to outside applications. But this challange is not just limited to really talented bryce only artists nor are they excluded. So as no one cam only render in bryce, The use of imported objects is not detracting from the faithfullness of the challange.

Thread: Question re: faster rendering | Forum: Bryce
you may see a small increase. I ran bryce on a 933 mhz P3 with 384 Mbyte ram and only noticed a marginal improvment over the same image rendered on a P2 300 mhz 128 mbyte system. You will hit a wall with the bryce rendering engine, the code of the render engine, is the limiting factor. After a certain point the bryce software is the liiting factor.

I agree with the above. It is all relative and what is exhorbitant to one person can be cheap to another. However as the the research I did for a past project had me dig up salary statistics for the commercial graphic arts industry. I also finally reccomended to RFP several companies for the project. The lowest priced one. Simply stated for example. I need a cat model. I create a request for proposal. I send this RFP to all of the artists here on renderosity. In the rfp is the specifics of what I want and how and when I want it. Then I wait for the bidders to forward their proposals back. The artist who demonstrates that they can provide me with the cat, how I want it when I want it, at the cheapest price, gets the contract. The corporation I work for is no different than any other. Wise business practice is to get what you need for the least cost. This impacts the bottom line. So as the majority of business both large and small adopt the practice of least cost sourcing. You can bill what every you wish for your time, but be prepared to loose the contract to someone who will do it cheaper. The company we eventually went with was located in Sri Lanka. They came in with the lowest bid, for quality work. With the advent of telecommuting. The competition in the field of graphic arts will be fierce. Talent has no boundries especially with high speed internet access. People who think $30 an hour billable for thier work is cheap, will need to reassess when someone from India, Taiwan, Malaysia, China comes in at $10 or even less. These people are no less talented, and in many cases produce superior work.

Go to any of the job sites. Search under graphic arts or media designers. The typical advertised salary. You will see that the average for around the country. The paid salary of a full time graphics designer is right around $40,000 per year. THis is for a person that has 5 years experience in graphic development work. I do not make this up. The information is readily available from a number of sources. Monster, Hot jobs, etc. Salaries have especially dropped in the web graphic development fields since the dot com crash. I am not quoteing Freelance rates as their rates are not consistant enough nor widely available enough to get a reliable statistic. I am quoting staff designer salaries as paid buy companies for full time employment. As the items you produce are not done under special contract for a particular client. The compensation calculations are consistant with a company effort at producing a standard product for resale. Very similar to say viewpoint that makes gereric models for the general geaphics community. Viewpoint retains full time developers to crank these products out. It is the average salary of this type of developer that I reference. The average salary for staff artists for advertising, and media houses across the nation is right at $40,000. This is the reality. But you do not have to believe me, go do the research. Here in the south east. Typically your grapics peofessional with 2 to 5 years experience is paid $30,000.
