wow..this thred has bekome kwite a demonstaytion ov the intolerancez that seeems to still bee manifest in hour societee. I believe the saying, "don't throw stones if you live in a glass house" is appropriate here. We all have quirks which are really only percieved as such out of pride and ego. Our individual perceptions of reality are fashioned out of are own unique experiences. Without tolerance(which is really an extension of love), we are truly alone. Without judgement we thrive. We all have bad days; we all make mistakes. Lets pick each other up and move forward. You can actually "feel" the difference when you let tolerance or love flow through you. Ghandi knew it. Mother Teresa knew it. We all knew it at some point but many of us have forgotten. Its a soul thing; it is a heart thing. If you don't yet grasp this its okay, the lesson will just repeat!

Here's a review that might be helpful. http://www.computerarts.co.uk/reviews/review.asp?id=998 Poser 4 is a fantastic program. The deeper you delve into it, the more you get from it, and the better you appreciate some of the subtleties of its design. However, it's not long before you discover the program's shortfalls, even if you're a novice. Now that the long-awaited version 5 is here, what lessons has Curious learned? Poser is unique among all of the 3D applications on the planet, for its the only one concerned with manipulating and posing 3D figures, rather than creating and texturing them. Version 5 brings a generous bundle of new features and design refinements, which will enthuse even the most jaded 3D user. First among them is its new rendering engine, Firefly, which is the sole survivor from Curious Labs' attempts to build a 3D modelling application. Firefly includes a ray tracing mode, which enables far greater subtlety from your models, and finally enables you to create genuine reflections; no more Photoshop post-work to create water and mirrored surfaces. Hand-in-hand with Firefly is the new Material room, where you create the textures for your models. This is massively improved, and includes the ability to create node-based textures. Each node is a texture of its own, and these nodes, which can be procedural, or static or animated bitmaps, can be combined or used as operators to create more complex textures. Sadly, the mapping engine seems incomplete, and you can't do things such as change mapping modes from UV to projection, or rotate the maps. This inadequacy is representative of all that's wrong about Poser 5. The program has many fantastic new features, but they've only been implemented in an introductory kind of way, and it's really easy to see how each feature could have been improved or made easier to use. Curious just failed to dot the 'i's and cross the 't's, and it's frustrating to think what could have been. By far the most exciting new modelling feature is the Cloth room, where you can turn any surface or model part into cloth. This cloth can be draped over other objects, it reacts to the new wind generator and is affected by collision detection. Whether you want to create a conforming bed sheet, a fluttering flag or a billowing dress, it will do it for you. Another new feature is strand-based hair. This enables you to grow and style wigs or fur, which can also be made to react to wind. This feature should really be considered more of an introduction to hair, rather than a direct replacement for Poser 4's hair system, which depends upon polygons and transparency maps to create volume and strands. In the Face room you can load in front and side photos of your own face. After aligning a few control points, the program supposedly creates a map and modified geometry that you can use with the default male and female figures. However, we never achieved satisfactory results. Poser 5 includes a whole new high-resolution family, each of whom comes pre-textured. They don't look as good as DAZ3D's family of characters, nor do they have as many body morph targets. However, they are infinitely better than the Poser 4 figures, and they have a greater range of facial morphs than either Michael or Victoria. In conjunction with the Face rooms morph putty feature, they enable you to create just about any face shape you can imagine. If you depend upon Pro Packs plug-ins for hosting within Maya, Max, Cinema 4D or Lightwave, then don't throw away Poser 4 just yet. For Easier to navigate and control Enables greater realism and variety of characters Against Pro Pack's third-party program integration not implemented Many bugs and design flaws Weak lighting modes Verdict Despite many minor, and not-so-minor niggles and shortfalls, Poser can still prove extremely handy for scene visualisation and quick character set-ups. However, it could have been improved much further and you don't have to dig too deeply to see where. On the whole, Poser is a great application, but the fact that the Pro Pack is incompatible with version 5 means professionals will be shy to upgrade immediately. Hope this helps

My suggestion is to read very carefuly through the posts in the last few weeks and base your decisions on your own findings. Let us know what you decide.

I'm Canadian, but if I lived south of the border Nader would have had my vote too! And actually my 5 cents is worth less than 3 on your soil. Yowch! I'm kicking myself over this purchase. Live and learn. But after dozens of software purchases, I've never been stung this bad before. Your wise to keep your money for now.

Well spoken Jackson my man! I also believe if you look to the square root of the problem it is and always has been CL. Yet somehow, interestingly enough, in some people's minds they are always portrayed as saints. This faulty a product, I believe, is totally unacceptable. I also believe that eventually the wheel will come around and if CL doesn't look after the market place, the market place will take care of them. But in the meantime some of us are left with a real mess to sort out. We will keep trying to sort it out even though we shouldn't have to. Jackson, here's a question for you. Would you have bought P5 knowing what you know now?

I think that sums it up nicely. We found our common ground. You have a nice one also. Next time we talk I'm sure it will be more upbeat and positive. Bye for now

It will be nice when I can say the same about Poser 5. I asked CL if they would trade software. P5 for P4. They flaty refused me. Not exactly great customer service. I have imaged some fairly high end clients here in Canada and if any pulled what I have seen so far with their latest product release, they'd be dead in the water. I believe if CL doesnt get things sorted out soon they will be also. In my opinion, I think CL is very fortunate that they do not currently have any competition. As I said before, I am not alone with my problems with this prematurely released software. I have dialogued with others who I won't mention because they are very credible, high profile artists and designers and they are also quite unhappy. It is an unfortunate situation that CL finds themselves in but to knowingly release something with that many bugs as proved by there quick patch release, and comments admitting their premature release by you know who, they have brought it on themselves. I recognize this as an Imaging nightmare. If they were my client it would be a real challange to set things strait. The only thing saving them now is there current monopoly. But I'll bet sells are dwindling as more negative feedback pours out along with unfavorable reviews. Its really too bad because its shaken the poser community wouldn't you agree? By the way it is just after 5am here in Western Canada. Have a nice day.

Being a writer/producer/sound designer for more years than I'd like to mention, I have used extreemly high end audio programs myself such as protools, etc with the odd little problem here and there, but so far Poser 5 has been laughable. I'm not talking about a few bugs but a regular cockroach festival. I currently have more than 100 software packages on my primary hard drive. Most run flawlessly. And games. I'll use Warcraft 3 as an example. Its a work of art. How software should run. The odd software I own shows a glitch here and there, but Poser 5 has been a bug bash...for me at least. I have been in contact with so many others that agree but incidently they are afraid to post here because of what happens when you do. I guess I've developed a thick skin over the years. I feel integrity is important so I post my honest feelings. About getting something wonderful from daz..I hope so.. I don't think it could get much worse. They did make Vic, Mike, and Steph and I think you'd agree these are leaps and bounds better than any CL offerings. Off topic circle..what are you doing up sooo late?

But watch what you say against this product or you could get banned! Shame on you for warning people. How dare you! The point many are missing is the software should work out of the box. A few bugs okay. But come on how much patience is a customer expected to have? The reason there is so much controversy is that this product has caused it! I'm glad for the dozen or so that post over and over and over again that everythings okay with Poser 5. I'm curious though why some feel it is there mission to say its great repeatedly everytime somone new comes to the sad realization, that for them, Poser 5 is a dog and posts there concerns. Look through the posts and you will easily see the pattern. I question the posts where some have said quit complaining and just send your problems to tech support. You miss the point that we are not the beta testers here nor should we be. I'm afraid if this keeps up that this company is going down the tubes and that would be sad. But then they mislead the public in the first place by knowingly releasing a product with bugs. Folks they knew that the program had faults when they released it, or have some of you forgotten this already. What does this say about CL? Can we trust them now? I personally can't wait for the DAZ option. The sooner the better. Competition would benefit the consumer in a big way.

Crescent, so now it was spam was it. Is this your story now. Tell me what your definition of spam is...I'm curious. I haven't seen where there has been a personal attack by the artist on anyone in this forum. Yet he has been cruelly attacked by members in this forum. I call that a double standard. Why haven't there comments been pulled!(they should't be by the way) You have said a mouthful when you said... 'And as to the question, "Who is mother Renderosity?" It is a privately owned web site that pays for the hosting and bandwidth used. As a privately owned web site, it can make the decisions as to who can and can not post, and what posts are allowed. Considering the fact that it even permits posts that speak negatively about the site, the owners, and the company that pays for the site", beacause I believe that's the real motivation behind silencing this man. In politics this is known as spin doctoring. In PR its known as damage control. Tirjasdyn, animation capabilities! Are we reading the same threads. Please don't make me do a cut and paste here.

You're a mod? Dig the sarcasm! There are many holes in your argument. Was it the repetitive nature or the crap? Others repeat messages without problems. Was it the crap? You just stated the first image stayed, so it couldn't have been the image then. Follow me here? So then what was it really? During your retreat, keep asking questions and just maybe by about the 10th or 11th patch you'll get some answers! A time out? Who is mother Renderosity anyway? Again until you actually get it....if it bothers you or anyone else, don't look at it!!

At least you can air your opinions. It seems censorship has reared its ugly head on this site. It seems if you say something bad about one of the main sponsors of this site, your message gets pulled. I have also noticed that there seems to be one fairly small group of people that literally goes out of there way to defend CL at all cost. Makes me wonder about their motives! Let me rebalance things out. I have felt up til now that by jumping in here and expressing my opinion that this little group would pounce on me. But as I read more and more posts about the displeasure with Poser 5, I realize that I am, by far, not alone. Jump done my throat if you like, ban my opinion if you like, but I'm standing up and being counted here. I've also noticed that when a good review comes along, that is almost always negative about Poser 5, "the group" interestingly enough, has nothing to say about it. For me so far Poser 5 has been a horrible experience. I hope it gets better. I have never in my life run such buggie software and I've used some pretty high end gear. And yes I continually email my problems to CL but so far to no avail. To would be Poser 5 buyers....Wait!!!!!(just my humble opinion)
