Not a good analogy; the Poser automobile does have an engine; it's just a Ford engine, not a Porshe. And, the engine separately would be, say, $4000, if we want to call 3DMax the Porshe. [As an aside here, there are people who would be happy paying $200 for a car without an engine.] I think it does pretty well, for the the low price. To hope for more is human nature, but to expect more is not reasonable. It could well be that Poser is not the vehicle for you. But I think if you browse through the Poser gallery, you will see that some people get a lot of mileage out of it. Perhaps if you explained what you would like to accomplish, we could better explain how to get there using Poser (assuming it is possible). --Terri

Wow, those are lovely. Amazing what some of you guys can do with shader (my idea of making a texture is changing it from default gray to red, heh). Between these and the metal shader's from litst, I'm getting a nice little shader arsenal. Thanks!

That would be OK by me, but there may be complications we haven't thought of. Let's see what litst thinks. Oh, and I think litst should be the final judge, as I for one don't really feel all that qualified to judge someone else's work (yet).

I think it sounds good, except I would have had trouble meeting a two-week deadline. But then, I'm a bit slow at this stuff still, so that could be just me.

Dunno if you will find the above link useful or not, but it's a quick-and-dirty way I came up with for making a humanoid figure out of a cylinder (vertex modeling). The end result looks a lot like a rag doll, so I thought you might find some helpful ideas. I did mine in Carrara, but I think the technique would work with anim8or too. Might have different names for the commands. I should probably mention that I'm a beginner myself, and am still experimenting. So it's entirely possible that I don't have the foggiest idea of what I'm talking about. Probable, even. Good luck! Also, I wanted to mention I have a bunch of email buddies that this picture would really appeal to... they're really into field trials with their dogs (dogs are my other big hobby). Especially my labrador buddies. If you ever post it at large on the web, let me know; I'd love to show them this pic, even if it means they'll no longer be impresses with my 3D abilities.

Hmm. Well, carrara has an Adaptive Oversampling which I set to max, and I also picked best so maybe this is going to be a problem for me.
