Hi checkthegate,
I've spent the best part of today trying to find appropriate DEMs for West Africa from USGS and their three recommended distributors. So far I have been unable to locate anything useful other than a DEM map of the whole of West Africa at 1 pixel = 1km.
I am not helped by being on a neanderthal 56k connection! (and I'm having a bit of a 'numpty' day...).
If anyone can help: I am hoping for a DEM of a small coastal town called 'Joal', Senegal, West Africa. I would love to be able to model the local peninsula as the setting for my project.
Any help gratefully received.
Cheers
PS: I should add that I am not expecting too much: I can see no reason why it would have been height mapped in any detail in the first place ~ its not of any particular interest to the US, and the Senegalese should be concentrating what resources they have on more fundamental issues.....

Ahhh, but does anyone know how I might create a terrain for a site in West Africa?
Please, please, please.................

Thankyou for clearing that up, Powertec.......
Fortunately, I did not allow myself to raise my hopes too high!

Quote - You can pretty much look at a google earth sim......anywhere in the world and keep zooming in till you see something you like....(Like for instantance a nice Hawain island)...then just download the dem files....BITCHIN
Could someone kindly point me in the right direction for downloading the info/file from Google Earth to create a terrain in Vue Infinite? I shall look again at Google Earth, but from previous visits I do not recall having seen the relevant links/commands......
All help is much appreciated.
Kind regards

Kaji, Vue 7 Xtream, native 64 bit for the Mac, it will have to be then........
And here starts the sweepstake betting on the announcement date (!?):
I'll guess at Monday 6th October '08.............
PS: Interesting to learn that Carbon was the band-aid for the transition to OS X.

Quote - How well does xStream behave on a Mac Pro? I just ordered one... should be here at the end of this month. =D
Izaro: thanks for that link. Well, that really kills it for me. They wrote it in Carbon instead of Cocoa like good developers, and now they are suffering since Apple pulled the plug on 64 bit Carbon support. Kind of like Adobe, ne?
It appears, ironically, that e-on may have been too early with their adoption of 64 bit for the Mac: They leapt onto the Carbon bandwagon, and subsequently Apple shifted to Cocoa....?
As the saying goes: 'It is the second mouse that gets the cheese!'
I'm hoping that e-on release a 64 bit Mac Infinite 7 at launch ~ I might also be able to afford a MacPro by then!
Kaji, enjoy your new MacPro ~ by all accounts it is a fabulous machine.... it might be worth you running Vue via Bootcamp if you've a lot of RAM?

Quote - Hi!
I bought Vue 5/6 Infinite some time ago (a year or two) and bought a Mac Pro Quad 2,66 with 8 Gigs of Memory espacially for this f*** software. It was a pain to use and rendertimes take... too long for me. I sold the Mac Pro and now use a iMac Dualcore 2,4 Alu with 4 Gig.
The app is near to unusable for me. UI is sluggish and unusable if any other app runs at the same time. Often application crashes.
A totally waste of money.
I realy hate this software and the company so much !
I have reinstalled it some times without getting better results.
ole
Your experience sounds very similar to my post purchase experience with Vue Infinite. However, some succint answers from e-on support have given me the means of running Vue effortlessly. I now find Vue a pleasure to use on my more 'modest' MacBook pro with 3Gb ram. Please feel free to vue the support thread at:
There is also an interesting discussion regarding bringing a 64bit version of Vue to the Mac at the end of the thread.
I hope it helps......
