Kelly: Oh - wish I had my own server too !! I didn't notice there was a specific showcase gallery - I should have done from Tom's message. I will upload some MMFrac images to there. You could you download the MMFrac zip from: http://skyscraper.fortunecity.com/terabyte/966/download.html and put it on your site, then let me know the URL so I can add it to the freestuff. Thanks Kelly - are you sure your server allows direct external links to non-HTML files (there are very few who do, even commercial ones) ? (You can check in their TOS)

MMFrac was written using Watcom to use "dos4gw.exe" a 32-bit DOS extender. I only recommend MMFrac for those who prefer the keyboard to the mouse, DOS diehards or those who for some reason have to use DOS instead of Windows (or whatever). It does one or two things that I really miss in Ultrafractal - in particular the ability to have a switch preview using the currently selecting colouring formula/s rather than some defaults. Unfortunately it doesn't do layers though. What's "the product showcase" ? Do you just mean my gallery ?

Looking at the current way the ratings are sorted two possible ideas come to mind. The first is add 9 to the total of the ratings for an image then divide by the number of ratings plus one, admittedly this may still favour the older images slightly but the order they are sorted would make more sense. The other idea is a bit like the idea I had for sorting by number of comments ie. after calculating the average rating for an image then divide this by the number of weeks since the image was posted to get the value for sorting.

Of course you could (go back?) to a system where only the total rating counts rather than the average.

I did think it might reduce the number of comments, but if the rating idea fails due to too many 10's and not enough actual ratings then it may be worth forcing the rating.
