I'll agree with everything mac says. I learned to use D|S first, and I find it much easier to use, and the quality of the renders far surpasses anything I can do in Poser.

I don't have this package, but if it's a "missing" texture problem, it could be that the file reference in the figure file is wrong. There's a very good utility by Hogsoft called "Correct Reference" that you can run on your Runtime folder that will find any incorrect texture references. CR will then either fix them automatically or allow you to find the files so it can fix the reference. Do a search in the free stuff here on Rendo; I'm pretty sure there's a link to their site.

The limits issue is a known bug, and rumor has it that the problem has been resolved in the next release version. It's not caused any problems for me, once I tell D|S it's OK to turn off limits. I'm not sure about the scaling issue, though. D|S and Poser are pretty divergent when it comes to interpretation of a variety of mathematical functions, so it's not surprising that D|S would mangle figures heavily modified in Poser. One solution would be to reset the figures in Poser and resave the scene; import the scene into D|S and apply the transformations there.

Both excellent suggestions, Angela! Thanks so much. :) The first item from Chrislenn is just what I was looking for.

To find your Poser content, go back to Edit>Preferences and click the pull-down button on the "Directories" tab. Choose "Poser Content Directories", and choose the folder ABOVE your Runtime folder(s) to get the content to display in your Content pane.

These are Poser format items, which work just fine (for the most part) in D|S. Extract each .zip file to a "DAZ" folder, which will end up containing a Runtime folder with several other interior folders in Poser folder structure. To have D|S find the Runtime folders where the items are, click on Edit>Preferences, then click on the pull-down button on the directories tab and choose "Poser Content Directories". You can either use the "Search" button to allow D|S to search for the Poser folders itself, or you can navigate to the "DAZ" folder you created with the Poser folders inside, using the "Add" button. Once you've done this, click "Apply", then "OK", and the folders with your content should show up in the Content pane.

Thread: New Version of D|S Available from DAZ! | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I had four scenes saved in the last version (9.20.9?). All of them would load to 40%, the objects would show up in the viewport, but D|S remained locked up. The same thing happened with scenes saved in the new version (9.21.2?). I'm waiting for the next release. ;)

Is there a newer one than the release that won't load .daz scene files? I tried it, and reloaded the previous version so I could finish the project I was working on.

D|S's interpretation of light/shadow settings is much more intense than Poser's. The soften feature should help, as will turning down the intensity of the various lights.

If you select the body part that contains the morphs in the "Scene" tab (left hand side), the morphs will show up at the bottom of the "Parameters" tab on the right.

Thread: transmaps in daz studio problem..........help please | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I don't have Koshini hair, but the problem is more likely in the surface properties than in the render settings. This really is a puzzle--it almost looks like the trans maps are too dark, increasing the transparency. However, I've not ever noticed a difference in the way D|S and Poser interpret trans maps, so if this were the case, it should be a problem in Poser as well. Are you having this problem with any other hair products? I'm wondering if it's something in the material settings of the .hr2 file.
Thread: Problems saving | Forum: DAZ|Studio
The latest versions of D|S don't require lighting to render (the documentation is terribly outdated, but there aren't any plans to update it until the final release version). A more likely cause for black renders is using the OpenGL render option on a video card that doesn't support it. Try opening Render>Render Options... and sliding the Render Quality slider all the way to the right ("Best quality/Software Render"). This should solve the problem.
