Thread: Windows XP SP" and Vue infinite | Forum: Vue
One thing I should add. I have installed SP2 on many machines without a problem. SP2 works well on "most" machines. However..there are the "few" that have issues. My point is..don't fix what aint broke. Do a google for SP2 issues/annoyances. Not everyone is happy with SP2. One thing to remember..use the system restore feature! Create a restore point before you try SP2....if your system doesn't like it..roll back to your restore point. Good luck.

Well..I DO NOT use SP2. As for MS not supporting you unless you have SP2 installed..this is not true. Windows update will NOT work but, you can still download & install patches from technet-(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/Downloads/default.mspx). I have run into several issues with SP2. The main "issue" is unexplained "slowness" when opening folders (pretty sure it has to do with indexing). As for increased security..bah.. the MS firewall is pathetic...get a real firewall if you think you need one. IMHO..wait for SP3.

I would be happy to help. Any format is ok. I have Maya 6.5, max 7, C4D or zbrush. Cheers.

"don't think Omega makes drivers for Macs do they?"
Not sure. It'd be a shame if they didn't.
Sounds like the current drivers(or whatever Mac's use) AREN'T multithreaded?

Get yourself some "Omega drivers". Steer clear of the official ATI drivers IMHO.

QUOTE - Cheers
"In order of priority of important features: CPU, memory, graphics card and then 64bit hardware compatability (64bit is coming and it is probably best to make the jump now, and most native 32bit software will run on it)."
What Cheers said!
With emphasis on the CPU. SMP (dual core, dual cpu) is the way to go. More cores=more threads=Much Much happiness...& way faster render times.
What a Rendercow does is merely distrubute the job among many CPUs. So..already having multiple CPUs in you rig is obviously a powerfull start.
Most graphics applications are multithreaded, which means they (should) really know how to take advantage of the extra CPU power.

It depends on the specs of your motherboard. I'd recommend using the forum search feature here. There have been a TON of threads on the subject. Some of them are bound to be of some use.

Thread: I won ZBrush!!! | Forum: Vue
Lucky you!
I have to say that ZBrush is fast becoming my primary 3d app of the moment.
I've started to integrate my Zbrush work into my VUE renders [HERE], with MUCH satisfaction may I add.
Good luck.

Its all about the drivers people.
Update your drivers before you lay blame.

Thread: Vue 5 Inf and OpenGL question | Forum: Vue
Well...sounds like you have everything pretty well geared for speed & your ram is definately NOT an issue.
I have a 128mb 6600GT & 1.5gb Ram, however..my nVidia drivers are NOT WHQL.
I guess it all depends on your perspective & what YOU class as slow ie:"Vue windows are quite slow when refreshing, and it's pretty tough to do precision positioning".
Something tells me working on a machine like yours would be "WAY" quick for me.
Either way..it's sounds like something your going to have to learn to live with..unless e-on release an update that remedies the issue.
I hear Vue will be working with C4D soon & C4D has working 64 bit versions. It's already speedy on the 32 bit platform. I'd love to see how quick it(C4D) runs on a beasty 64 bit system.

Thread: Vue 5 Inf and OpenGL question | Forum: Vue
An Nvidia 6800 is more than adequate.
I suspect it is EITHER your video/motherboard chipset drivers.
OR
It's a memory issue.
Vue eats memory like there is no tomorrow.
More than likely, it's the later.
Check the windows "task manager"(right click taskbar/task manager) while you're working. Select "Processes" tab. Click "mem usage" to sort running processes & see what program/s are eating your memory.
It's also a good idea to add the "VM Size" column to your task manager - click "view/select columns" & tick the "Virtual memory size" box.
You'll notice Vue eats a hell of a lot of "VM"(leaks!?).
Increasing the amount of physical memory (RAM) AND Virtual memory will increase your VUE performance.
So..Update your drivers & increase your "virtual memory" and see how that goes...let us know what happens?
Cheers.
