Oh, nevermind! I missed your first reply. Yes, once you finalize settings, you can never go back to change the parameters of them in Blender. That is true with everything, even modifiers. There's only a few modifiers, like Subdivision Surface, that even let you work on an object while they are active. I think the only software that lets you edit objects when modifiers are active is 3dsmax. So I guess that's normal for most modelling software that use modifiers, but I hate not being able to go back on things sometimes and change settings.
Any modifier can be changed as long as they are not applied, tools are the ones which you have to make up your mind once for all. It might be a bit confusing since e.g. the spin exists both as tool and as modifier.

Nerd3D promised faster updates and he is keeping his word. Rare quality in today's business world.

In general, check all VscorpianC tutorials. They are clear, to the point, without hums/throat clearing etc. Highly recommended.

Renderosity forums (which are just a cost) are being deliberately driven into extinction, the Renderosity which economically matters to its owners (the marketplace) appears to be alive and kicking.
@William_the°_bloody: e.g. head to deviantArt.

Silo? development terminated. Unless there is a strain of necrophilia in your character, I do not see reason to consider it.

but the Renderosity Poser Forums are not very active anymore ,it's becoming a ghost town.I've been around here for 15+ years never seen it like this. look at strick forums that you can only stay on topic.your see threads with 0, 2or3 replies. no one hangs out at those forums and it's difficult to get help on those forums. pro forums are the worst if they do post it's RTFM.
it use to be here what is this out fit n 10 pages of off topic but every one was here.don't fix it if it ant broke. now ...
This is what Renderosity management and staff worked hard to accomplish and their efforts were rewarded by, as Shang Tsung would say, a flawless victory.

Thanks, all. The G seems to work. I don't think the manual said anything about using G...
If you want to move vertices you have to [G]rab them. Other possibilities are [R]otating them or [S]caling them.

When selecting a tool for a professional purpose the real question is: when the going gets tough, the tough get going? It does not matter if a tool is "easy" to learn if half way thru a project you discover that either you cannot do what you want or that it entails a mindboggling amount of work.
Carrara: on DAZ forums, DAZ representatives discuss modeling using Blender. When a Carrara user complained, they did not even answer. Do your math.
Hexagon: slightly less support than Carrara.
Silo: development terminated.
Wings3D: only closed surfaces, open surfaces done with a ugly trick (transparent material).
Shade3D: almost japanese-only user community (does not inspire security for the purpose of finding information).
trueSpace: dead.
Maya, zBrush and the like do well (fiendishly well) their job but they are completely outside your budget.
There is only one program among those mentioned in this thread that won't let you down mid way and is inside you budget.
@EldritchCellar: Blender UV mapping is one of the most powerful parts of the program to the point that many 3DStudio/Maya professional users move the meshes to Blender for the UV part.
To everybody: have a look at what Blender modifiers do: among the programs I know, only 3D Studio and Houdini have similar (actually much more powerful) capabilities, i.e. enabling non-destructive workflows.

Sorry, I misstyped; the selection clicks are as LuxXeon wrote. Interestingly, after a while they become so automatic that you do not really remember them consciously.

You might verify that Internet Explorer is not in Offline Mode: on my box the Pro2012 external library gives an error message and does not work in that case, I have to put IE back into Online Mode to have it work.

Imo, a step back, not forward.
It is not a step back, it is just that being Cycles a good/very good engine (differently from Firefly) it ruthlessly exposes the lack of high quality content and of sophisticated shaders (and lack of user experience). On BlenderArtists forums there are many threads which show what competent people can get out of humanoid figures in Cycles.
