I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do this. There have been a couple of times, though, that I wanted to touch up an image that I'd already posted. What I did in the past was upload the remade image as a new posting, and then later - maybe a week or so later - I reevaluated the original. Sometimes I deleted the original. Sometimes I didn't. (I periodically delete images from my gallery, anyway.) If you're going to re-do an image, I would love to see it! Don't upload it and quietly walk away! LindaA
Thread: February Fractal challenge winners! | Forum: Fractals
How can we see who the authors of all of the images are! There were some real beauties in this contest! Congrats to the winners! Competition was stiff! LindaA

I agree with you, Laura. I would let them know that using any of your images without your permission is a copyright infringement, and that you do not give that permission. Posting an image to the 'net doesn't mean it's in the public domain. You still hold all the rights to the image unless you specifically give them up. (I'm not a lawyer, but this problem comes up with great regularlity, and this is the answer you'll see most often.) Linda
Thread: Voting link does not work... | Forum: Fractals
I think they changed the voting capabilities. I thought the same thing as you, but I read the explanation of the "Hot 20" this morning, and it says: "The Hot 20 is based on the number of votes by members an image has gotten in the previous 7 days. The button for voting is below the full size image after you click on the thumbnail. Thus, one member can only generate one view (I think they mean one "vote") during the 7 day period." LindaA

Most fractal artists begin fractaling after they have found someone they choose to emmulate - hero or mentor. Some try many different styles; some find their own style the first time around and stick with it. Copying someone elses style honors both artists. Angie has openly stated that she is inspired by Mindy's fractals. There is nothing wrong with that! I doubt anyone here can state that they haven't tried, at least once, to copy the style of fractal artists like Paul Carlson, Janet Parke, Kerry Mitchell and others. Angie, you just keep fractaling. Your images are lovely. There are a few known people here in the fractal community who love to sow seeds of confusion, anger, and disappointment. Don't let the b______s get you down! LindaA

Thread: A fractal community calendar? | Forum: Fractals
The screensaver - there is software out there that works great. I have screensaver builder, and I'd be glad to put images together if enough people are interested. But I don't want to be involved in making decisions or marketing. I don't know how, and I get all nervous when I know someone is depending on me! :-( So if someone wants to take point, I'll be glad to finish up on the end. The calendar - I don't think I want to participate. Sounds like too much work. But a call for images for the Fractal Universe 2006 calendar is coming shortly. Anyone who wants to can submit images for that calendar. Linda
Thread: Yet another printing question | Forum: Fractals
Last October, I couldn't get a large Apop print to generate on my system. So I settled for a 2000x1600 print, 150 ppi, png format and had it printed at 11x14 by EZPrints http://www.ezprints.com/ on glossy paper. It was perfect! The image is at: http://www.fractalus.com/gumbycat/Apophysis-04.html Good luck on your printing! Linda

Thread: Voting on Gallery Uploads | Forum: Community Center
I like it the way it is - the 3/day - when it comes to the fractal gallery. We don't get the volume that some of the other galleries get. If uploads were reduced to 1/day, there wouldn't be much to see . . .

Hi, Paul! I love your images. Always have - always will! I don't remember seeing "Borlien" before, though, and when I clicked on the thumbnail to see the larger image, there was a problem with the larger image. You might want to give it a peak. Thanks for sharing! Linda
Thread: Are you "just" a fractal artist? | Forum: Fractals
Yes, I consider myself a "fractal artist." Once upon a time, I painted with oils and oil pastels, but I had to stop doing that when my hands became too shakey to control. So now I'm "just" a fractal artist. I have had some luck selling my art, although not a great deal of my sales fall in the category of wall art. Some, but not a lot. I've had more luck with things like calendar art, book and cd covers, posters and the like. But I think eventually the art world will catch on and then we'll be recognized. Anyway, I hope so! :-)))
