a great shot CrazyHorse! ...some very good posing, makes it look very dramatic! a little depth of field might help remove the fact that the castle door pulls the eyes away from the action, but its still an excellant image! `¬)

Quote - Hi folks!
It get's cold over here in Austria, so its time to fire up some renders...and to look through 169 pages here cough, cough
Let's see if figure out, how to post my Images in this forum? My first "Testrender" is a forest scene I bought recently. So first here is the link to the image in my Gallery:
Welcome back! I wondered how the forrest would render out! looks pretty good to me! `¬)
heres how I post an image (took a while to work out with a bit of help from here...)
Make sure your image is on the net, you have a gallery, so that is fine. Open your image in a new window, and then right click for 'properties'. It should list an address URL for that. Copy that from the properties and in then in this forum reply area (where you type your post) click the icon that looks like a tree. In the Image URL post the address you copied. Then go to the appearance tab and enter 600 in the dimensions first box. when you hit enter, the other box should auto change. Click insert button. That puts the image into your post as a 600 x whatever image. Now in the image in the 'reply' box, right click the image and select 'insert/edit link'. Paste the url again into this box, and select for 'target' to be 'open in new window' and then click insert.
That now means when you have finished typing the reply you want to post and have posted your reply, the image should appear in your post, and if you click on the image it will open up the original url location full size in a new window... `¬)
so your post would look like this...
I had a problem at first, as there was an extra line when I copied the url! And I ended up with the same 'x' square you did! ...so make sure when copying the url you copy the whole address... `¬)

Thanks Robert and Paolo. I've given up again and just gone back to straight CPU. I have no idea why it won't work now, as it has in the past. Robert, outside of the cpu count and scene names, my outut tab is identical, settings wise. Checked all my drivers against nvidia's latest, and they are current. Even updated the C++ the other day, tried taking the SLI down to a single card, and ran it through the last three builds of Lux. Still no joy.
@&*$#!!
Still makes a nice image in CPU though ;-/
Nice one superboom! ...not sure the umbrella light should glare into the camera, but image still looks good! `¬) I assume that's one of John's? - I must find an excuse to use some of John's bits soon... maybe his candle set could come in handy for a scene I have in mind, (if I can ever get free from tweaking this mad science thing! lol!)

Quote - Thank you, mbin!
I think I have it now, hopefully the render will be done by Friday
Good stuff! Look forward to seeing it! `¬) ...I really must get some more done to the mad science scene, but will probably have to wait for the weekend! ...its the only reason my test renders go on for so long! lol! Up time on the pc now shows 22 days and 1 hour, I ought to give it a rest! ;) catch you later...
P.S. I think it was Cridgit who was experimenting originally before with the 'peppers ghost' thing... not seen him posting about here?

Quote - Yes mbin, I did! You have a very good memory :) If I remember correctly, that render used either daylight or an IBL, which gave a stronger light. The scene I'm working on now is at night, therefore the lightbulbs in the room are low powered. I would like to see your test :)
Paolo beat me to it! Hardly seems worth posting my feeble test after that profesional reflection! `¬)
anyway, here you go... One thing more to remember, is that depending on your lighting, the illumination of your objects may cause the exposure to be such that the reflection may be very faint or be otherwise dificult to see. In my test, as the light that is illuminating the sphere is also going through the window to the cube, (potentiaslly bouncing off the cube and going through to illuminate the cube...), careful positioning may be needed... of course, I also have one big pane of glass and no walls! I seperated the softboxes (both scaled to 20% and set to 1watt) and made them different colours as can be seen to show how the light was working.
Paolo's image illustrates far better than mine!

the reflection will also depend on the angle you are looking at the window pane at... notice the glass in the left hand end has a much clearer reflection than the one on the right hand end... (of the display cabinet above) Thats due to the 'fresnel angle'... I did one a while ago to show the reflection on the underside of the water plane... (which is actually a glass material I think!)

cross posted while I updated the image above... ! `¬)
I will do a simple test this eveniong, but it maybe down to the amount of light...? `¬)

Quote - Well, I've come to the conclusion that it is virtually impossible to have glass reflection. Not without trickery, anyway :)
I thought you did a render a long time ago of a reflection in the eyeball (wasn't that possible because it was set to glass?)
Have you set up a test with your flattened cube, ensure no light can get behind it at all. Put a sphere in front of it and light the sphere, (either as the light source, or light it with a mesh pointing at the sphere and away from the glass pane). You should see it reflected? If that works, then it is just a case of balancing the light 'outside' the window pane to the light on the objects on the inside of the pane? I'll do a test when I get home this evening to see if you like?
the reflection of the light can be seen in the glass objects in Xandi's image above, so the glass is certainly reflective... You could set up the positions by first setting the glass to be mirror, to ensure the items are lined up correctly for the camera position etc...
someone on the old daz forum posted images of 'peppers ghost' that was done using the glass method, of which I also had a go at... Unfortunatly I'm not at home, otherwise I'd look up who it was! `¬)
...also see this image, the ende of the cabinet are glass and you can see a double reflection in each surface....

Quote - This is what I ended up with for the mad scientist. I've decided that his test tubes are warped, just like his brain. I learned alot from this exercise and am glad it was presented. I too, have the black antenna.
This came out very nicely! Glad it worked in the end! `¬)

Quote - > Quote - I'll second that! nice tone which works well for the image!
...just had a second play with the Dformers on the higher density mesh. Now that I look at the base of the tube holder, whereas before the points of the mesh could be selected due to being outside the tubes (only the vertecies went through the tubes), there are now some for the tube holder that are inside the tubes, so I cannot move them unless I move the tubes as well... oh well... If anyone wants them for the previous version, I can do those ok... :¬S
Thanks for all the hard work but I think I will pretend that the tube rack was made that way. LOL I have noticed that every time I reload this prop into Studio it has different issues and the rendered image comes out different although the Reality settings are set the same. This has been a challenge..
Once imported and materials set, I have not had it change on me, but yes, re-loading a different version does seem to present new issues to overcome! One in particular is that if you change a material, render, and then change it back to the original material, the settings do not always come back (this may be how it works?), and you then have to re-load from daz...) - if I remember right, one I got the black antenna, I cannot get rid of it if I've saved the scene and exited, even by then setting the mats back later... but if done in the same 'session' as when it went black it is recoverable... ?
Been a bit side tracked this/last week, so have not been able to do much on it... I'm still not happy with seeing the render either having the tube rack intersecting, or not having it easily correctable... Sooo, I may take another look and see if the points are far enough away from the tubes to be able to pick up on them. Potentially that could mean one Dformer for points inside the tubes, then several outside (for each of the three areas). This all depends on how close they all come and if I can miss the points of the tubes to be able to move them well enough... It 'may' work, but would result in a large number of info to post. If it does work, then I will post how to position one for each area and then post the rest of the data in a table... but will need to see if its feasable first! I will try to get to look this week if I can... not promising anything this time tho!`¬) (if not, I might go back to the intersecting version and see if I can disguise it somehow...)

Quote - > Quote - It should be available from the original link, Paolo did update it a couple of times, and the last one is the one I'm just moving over to. It should be the version that is here... https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3701566/3DRenderChallenge/MadScience.zip
If that version is still intersecting, then Paolo is your man!
yes, I also noticed the brain lid and book, but it is very slight!
No one took me up on the offer of the Dformer data for the tube rack, I was going to post them as a matter of course, but have not had the time yet. I will post them this weekend tho, but they will only work if you import the scene at 125%, otherwise all the positional co-ordinates will be wrong... I will post them, I will.... `¬)
I'm off to hook up my new cd player, so catch you later!
Thanks! I will give your deformer a go. I never could get those to work right for me. I understand how they work, I can never seem to apply them correctly.
I was just sorting out the screen grabs and info for the Dformers, and have been thwarted yet again! The first Dformer failed to work, even though I could see it is in the correct place. On closer examination of the mesh, although the tube rack has not been moved, I can see that the mesh density of the rack is double what it was before. This means there are additional points that now need to be moved by a relative amount to make it correct. I am rather annoyed that these Dformers will not work, and have no idea why the mesh density has changed... If I have the time later I may see if adding multiple Dformers to each area will help... this is now getting to be beyond my knowledge/ability to Dform the rack back into its correct shape! - if anyone else has any suggestions? ...I'd really like to use the latest scene, but unless the mesh density can be adjusted to be as it was, I may end up staying with the previous setup... I also notice the liquid surface inside the tubes is not smooth again either... (in the latest and previous version...)
For my Dformers to work, the mesh needs to be the density of the mesh shown on the lhs, and the tube rack must not have been moved in the scene... Paolo, any suggestions?
Present tubes surface...
...If anyone wants the Dformers for the previous scene, then I may post them... but I've spent too much time on this today now... sorry!

Quote - A little Lab re-do..... Love the new version of Lux, it seems faster and the ability to focus on one area that's being a PITA is great...
...nice! I see the black antenna, do you have water or hyper set anywhere? Just trying to find out if there is a relationship somehow! `¬)
The Dformer data; I will do screen shot for them, and all that will be needed will be to add to the scene and type in the relevent parameters. Provided the scene was imported at 125%, they should just work! (and that the scene was not moved, but then there shouldn't be a reason to move it, as it is self contained...) Will post them at the weekend `¬)
