It really depends on the end use. If you are doing animations for broadcast quality television, or you are producing DVD for home viewing, or you are doing work for the web - all justify using a different codec. There are also issues with some codecs with rapid changes in scenery - some get it right - others leave artifacts of the previous frame. One issue for internet, or intranet use is the transfer rate required rather than the overall compression rates. I have tended to use the Cinepak codec for preliminary work and have recently started using the DivX codec.
Thread: What is a normal wait time for loading and rendering in Poser 5? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi 600meg Pentium 3, 256 meg memory, win98 Poser load with no character about 3 minutes. render 640 x 480 with one character and dynamic hair render about 30 minutes to never using firefly and slightly faster using P4 renderer. Render with production settings - never waited long enough. [the amazing thing is that it runs at all - not how well it runs]

quote:" That's strange Markschum...I use Mozilla & it's even slower than IE :O...so I use IE when coming here." I am running win98 on a slow machine on a slow dialup link. IE6 was very slow on the first visit, thereafter seemed to local cache all the frippary. Since loading and using Mozilla FireFox browser everything on Renderosity loads really quickly. There are other sites much much worse for response times because of the animated stuff and constantly switching pictures. My IE6 browser also barfed at cascading style sheets and many java applets. I supose since I do not actually spend much money here I really dont care if it is slow or not. There seems to be times when I interperate the site is overloaded because I get intermittant session errors, but again, hey, FREE . I do agree you should get an answer but on this topic they seem to have given one. I am still waiting from a message I sent one of the Moderators concerning the web hosting debacle. Where the thread was locked and then deleted - I asked for clarification of the conflict of interest if Renderosity TOS was applied to a hosted web site. No reply to date. But again - hey - free - chill dudes !

It could be worth a letter to this persons ISP, assuming that the marketplace here records the IP address used. Advise the ISP that you believe his individual is using their network for criminal activities and file a police report. The police may not take it very far but every report filed can be used if he/she does this sort of thing again.

Don't you have the seperate Heads in the 'Additional Figures' folder of the figures library. ?

With the Universal wings 1 I found you had to load the texture and transparency maps in the material room. The textures don't show until rendered. It would I suppose be handy to have a set of Mat poses to help load them quickly.

I noticed the page somewhat slow but on a slow dialup it was all I would expect. I have now upgraded to Mozilla Firefox and its a lot faster than IE6.0

I use one of two methods. 1. load a prop square to the scene. Resize and position it as the backdrop. In the material room set the image map as required. 2. get the Infinity Cove backdrop from runtimedna freestuff. You can try to scale the UV mapping in the material room.

Having been one myself I sympathise with the people having problems but it is often difficult to change something without knowing WHY the problem existed in the first place. I run IE6 on a very slow system with a dialup connection often at 26k . The Renderosity site is usually OK response time wise. Perhaps it would be OK with Renderosity if they put up a forum topic for people to post some info. 1. what browser and what version, and settings 2. firewall, pop up blockers etc running 3. operating system This may help identify a common problem AT THE BROWSER END. regards

Robo, a few ideas for you to consider. post 1 image seems to have a slight red cast over parts of the image and a defect under the chin on the neck. post 3 image to me looks like a bump map on the body texture, or a strange texture map. post 12 look fine. I would bring the body texture up in a paint program or viewer and have a good look to see if the flaw is in the texture. Then render exactly the same image with the default poser 4 and firefly renderer and compare the images. Since the default lighting for poser uses colored lights it can throw off the skin texture colors. You may possibly be having a hardware problem with your video card or monitor. Try putting up an image of the color spectrum or open the color picker in poser and see if all the colors show correctly. best of luck

Thread: poser 5 help for a newbie?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi, In poser 5 there are three classes of clothing. 1. conforming - these are in the figures libraries. You add them as a new figure and then from the figure pulldown menu do a 'conform to' the figure they are to fit. 2. Dynamic - these are made using the cloth room. You add them to the figure and run the simulation. They resond to gravity, wind and figure movement. 3. Props - these should be in the props library. These are usually things like hats, armor, jewellry etc. If you haven't yet read the manual at least skim through the major sections.
Thread: How much lost Poser content is there? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have seen a number of posts from people who have items that are not worth wasting web site space on because of the small demand. There are still a couple of sites for Posette (P4 woman). I am using the P5 characters - those really are not well supported.
